it makes perfect sense when you look at it from the perspective of the government to remake pattaya into a family type place to visit. No booze will keep the type of farang tourists that pattaya was built on away. The government doesnt care about the economic pain this causes to the current businesses in pattaya. they are just collateral damage in their long range plans.

I think you are giving the guy who placed the ad too much credit. he just wasnt saa-mart enough to place an ad that described what he was really looking for. i.e. he is saa-toopid, not clever -

Miss Universe Thailand’s sparks another Internet drama over her patriotism

"Others, however, took her standing on the Thai flag carpet, particularly on the blue bar, which signifies the monarchy, more seriously and pointed out that she was showing aggression toward the revered institution. ' I am not sure how revered it is right now. I went to see Dune at paragon imax and about 70% of the thais remained seated during the song before the movie -

when i think about the concept of living with covid, it doesnt entail having to wear a mask the rest of my life or show my vaxx status or take a rapid test to do mundane activities, like going to khao san road. and it definitely doesnt involve having a 2-tiered society based on being vaxxed or not, especially with the documented limited time that the current vaxxes provide protection against illness. -

this guy is just another example of how "top something" or "best " in thailand is the equivalent of what would be considered bottom of the barrel in any modern country the problem is that many/most thais take what these clowns have to day as if it was uttered by buddha himself -
"The media interpreted this as Thais saying that if foreigners can come here, we want to go there." I think a better interpretation is that this subset of relatively-wealthy thais know it is safe to travel internationally, and that in 6 months they expect that it will be less of a hassle to return to thailand.

my hypothesis is that the mai pen rai culture developed here long ago with the thais deciding that because they are all basically screw-ups, that they would culturally agree not to call each other out on each others failings. My GF is mystified, and considers unreasonable, by my idea that a person should know how to do the basics of their job.

Engineers council proposes methods to solve flooding in Bangkok

Engineers council proposes methods to solve flooding in Bangkok
poskat replied to webfact's topic in Bangkok News
"The engineers said the floodwall constructed 10 years ago was damaged, with gaps and holes present. Water had gushed in from these openings below the top of the floodwall and resulted in the recent flooding in the area." So this means that these guys with all these ideas never thought to do a yearly inspection during the nonflooding period to see if there were any breaches in the wall and fix them before the next rainy season? -
thats because they already know the answer, which they have been taught since elementary school, that thailand is the greatest place in the world and any foreigner here should feel overjoyed that they have been permitted to be here

I was recruited for a job here 11 years ago as a category 4 person, with a work permit and have paid a good amount of tax each year. I have not experienced anything that made my remaining here year to year easier, doing my 90-day report, and in fact the paperwork requirements have increased. i do have to admit that showing a copy of my WP has resulted in my getting the thai price for entering some double priced places I have never experienced an immigration officers saying that a slight error in the paperwork, or missing one out of 4 required signatures was not a problem, lets stamp your passport and work it out later. In fact, an immig officer made a mistake one time, and when they realized it a few years later, said too bad, you need to do all this to fix it.

Thaifriendly - the search function is now rubbish
poskat replied to scubascuba3's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
I live in bkk, so am searching there. i just started using the phone app compared with the website, so i dont know what it was like before. but based on my search parameters, I get a nonstop scroll of girls that goes back for days and days of their last visit. However, I am a subscriber, which may have some effect. I am by no means an IT expert, which wont stop me from acting like one...555, maybe adjust some of your parameters slightly to see if that resets whatever is happening currently on your phone maybe the algorithm sees that you are not replying to your messages (257 unread by your screen shot), so it is giving you less choices. I know some of the swipe apps behave like that
