40000 registered, and approving them at a rate of about 1,500 per day.....
considering how they were saying how they were expecting a surge in those wanting to travel here, they might have anticipated the need for more people working on the approvals...
I dont think their suggested time for approval of 7 days will be even close to reality

he added that the high PM2.5 levels that begin at the end of the rainy season , like the annual flooding towards the end of the rainy season, was totally unexpected.

What most people don't fully understand is that Thailands economy is way more dependent on tourism than the 15% of GDP figure they loosely throw around. Its more like 30% when you add on the unseen intangibles.
they have always known how much of the GDP was from tourism. They just never wanted to admit it. When the spigot was abruptly shut off, denying the real impact on GDP was no longer possible

Thaikand could start protecting nature by not being one of the worlds largest dumpers of plastic waste into the ocean

maybe he meant that there will only be normal type corruption, the kind that is just baked into doing things the thai way, not any excessive corruption, which of course, would be wrong.

One of rhe main rules in thailand is that the problem is not fhe problem. The problem is the person who talks about the problem.

You appear to miss the bigger picture that without alcohol availability there will be no cake (tourists)in to put anything on . Closed facilities make for an unappetizing surroundings. I say this as someone who doesn’t drink, but I also say the die is cast ,the existing restrictions of additional testing and 1 night quarantine and the mire of ill thought through confusion surrounding them ,notwithstanding the already started winter wave of infections in Europe and airlines handing back 80% of their slots - there is no forthcoming season. "It’s an ex tourist trade" to paraphrase Monty Python
I am not missing anything, its a fxxking joke, based on the irony of a guy who has a lot of hotels saying that they need to allow alcohol sales in hotels

"Crowe thanked the Prime Minister for the souvenir and mentioned that he really admired Thailand, especially Thai people’s characteristics and kindness which comforted him throughout his travel."

We have also set up a committee to determine why no one in the government thought of this idea to line their own pockets, thus leaving it for non-government criminals to cash in on"

goodbye reopening

Those responsible for this stated:
"well since there are no tourists here to scam, we had to scam them in their own country". If thailand was open for tourists, we never would have had to do this, so it really isnt our fault"

Is there anybody out there who wanted to drink alcohol and didn't find it?
I have been seeing a lot of girls posting pics of drinking in club/bar looking places on instagram recently, especially over this long weekend

I think both stem from the belief by the powers that be here that people will do anything to come to thailand ASAP.
Its almost like TAT et al. think that thailand has an expiration date, and people cant just say sod all these hoops and restrictions, we'll go in a year or two...
this is despite the results of the phuket sandbox showing them otherwise....
it turns out the beaches, temples, food, and smiles arent the draw they were thought to be

Relax, the Swedes are coming: Swedish tourists rush to book trips to Thailand

whenever people report increases as fold changes rather than the actual numbers, that means the underlying numbers are low. Here the comparison is made with a time when very few trips were being booked. 2 bookings to 10 bookings is a five-fold increase.
