  1. I went to close my last CDMA subscription today at Central festival in Phuket where I was informed that once I close the CDMA it can't be reopened anymore as CAT is "go to new system next month (july)".

I asked what would happen if I kept the CDMA open she answered I could use it until the end of the year (2012) and after that it would be cut off.

She said I would need to buy a new aircard and sim-card for the "new system". I assume it's just a standard 3G or...?

    Anyone know more about this?

  2. airport still open? nothing in the news

Still open, I can hear the planes taking off and landing. Was at arrivals 30 minutes ago ==> very busy with all the cars, taxis and big puddles smile.png

impressive that they can land in this weather

  3. It's for sale but still open. they are empty early but get busy after 10pm or so especially on tournament nights on wednesday, friday and sunday

been going there regularly for the past 5 months or so

  4. Just got my Non imm ED-visa this week as well from vientiane (single entry)

needed my passport, paperwork from school, 2000 baht, signed copies of info page of passport, page with laos entry stamp, copy of laos visa and departure card, 2 pictures.

showed up at 8am. they opened the gates at 8.30, i got queue number 20 and was out at 9.30. I saw people with queue numbers of 95 etc. they showed up after gates were opened.

the touts can't get queue numbers anymore. the consulate stuff hand them out one by one and also put the number on your application so you can't jump queue

my paperwork was browsed through in 30 seconds as I had everything in order (it took some people 5mins) and i was off to pay. one woman was rejected for having too many visas in her passport. i assume she was applying for tourist visa. i left before seeing what happened to her eventually.

next day i showed up at noon (they open at 1pm). already about 15 people waiting. got my passport back only couple of mins after gates opening

  5. Never have had problems receiving letters/postcards/boxes sent from overseas while living in rawai/chalong. the people sending the stuff had my address in both english and thai though

back in karon the story was different, did not receive a few letters there

  6. It's probably the 3BB monitoring program kicking in. I have an article on throttling in last week's Phuket Gazette.

If you haven't yet written to me and started running the MIT Glasnost test routines, drop me a line (address is at the end of the Gazette article). I'm trying to come up with a definitive list of which ISPs throttle torrents, and the Glasnost test will tell you definitively when and how and how much.

thanks, i will send this to you later

  7. i think there is some daily/weekly limit for the full speed, dont know for sure though. Most of the time I get the full speed (1MB/s) for the first couple of gigabytes for the day. after that the speed is steady 175KB/s for a while...

    i got 3BB 9mbit too

  8. Why fly back to the UK, you can get a visa in the local area from a Royal Thai Embassy or Consulate.

Exactly! I thought the visa ended in December and the price for a ticket to the UK over christmas is a lot higer than normal.

The guys above pointed out that if i do a border run just before it expires I can get a stamp for 3 months, then worry about what I'm doing next.

and if i decide to return to the UK the price will be cheaper in feb / march

what he meant was that you do not have to go back to the UK to get a new visa(even if you could not use your current one in december anymore). you could just go to a neighbouring country to thailand and apply for a new visa

you can not get the same non O visa for visiting (girl)friends anymore anyway

  9. when burger king opened in central their prices were much lower than they are now. they raised them a few weeks or maybe month or two after opening. maybe they noticed they did not get enough customers... :ermm::blink:

  10. Ana told me something strange before sending my passport off which I still don't understand. She said several times, "We can no longer get you a 6 month visa. You must understand that this is a 3 month visa only, NOT a 6 month visa." I asked if it was going to be double entry even showing her my used double entry TV, and she said, "Yes." So I explained to her how with extensions and properly timed border bounce it could be up to 6 months. She was adamant it was "Not like that." I assume she doesn't understand how it works, and that someone probably told her that "The visa has a 3 month validity" which of course refers to the fact that you must use the first entry within 3 months. Anyone has any ideas let me know. Anyway, the visa I got is a regular dual entry tourist visa. Nothing special.

ALL of the entries must be used before that date or they become invalid!

  11. With regard to your question about posting to Hull from Norway I think you have to be in the UK now or at least send the passport from a UK address and have it returned to a UK address. In the past some have had success with posting from Europe but I think I read a thread a while ago, which I can't locate now, that now they will only accept applications from UK postal addresses as per the instructions on their website.

I sent my passport to Hull from Finland 3 weeks ago and got it back 6 days later (applied for triple entry tourist visa)

  12. Another alternative, if you want to take more time, .::Bus to Surat Thani,Sleeper Train to Bkk.. then Sleeper train to Khon Kaen. You see, I hate to fly overland. Enjoy my sleeper train trips a lot. I take a 2ndclass sleeper, non -air, as it does get quite cool rattling along at night. Have a 6 can cooler, for my Changs, but often, if good company is available, will settle down in the restaurant car and enjoy a very pleasant evening. My motto :: Be a brain ,travel by train. Be a pain ,travel by plane.

really curious why you think this way

my motto is exactly the opposite

  13. anyone try apply for a tourist visa from hull outside the UK (send passport to them with some extra money to mail it back) ?

i know it says they will only post it to people residing in the UK but everyone knows that's not really the case

just looking for some experiences before I send them mine. the thai embassy in helsinki is completely useless nowadays only issuing singles

So true, I've sent my passport to Hull from outside of the UK, and have a couple of friends. that have done so as well.

With a 100% success rate, however this has all pertained to O-visas, before the clamp down.

Presumably it should be the same with tourist visas, but I cannot confirm this.

Understand that you're looking for confirmation, however it's quite easy to just send them and email and ask if they will do it?

Thanks, yes i sent them an email already. Just wanted to get some actual experiences from actual people too

  14. If she gets a tourist visa she will get 60 days stamp when enter and it can be extended for another 30 days for 1900 baht at a immigration office, yes.

but if she enters without a visa she will get 30 day stamp when she enters but that can _not_ be extended for 30 days, only for 7 and it costs the same, 1900 baht. she would have to leave the country and return by air to get another 30 day stamp (arriving by land gets 15day stamp).

better and less hassle way is to get the tourist visa in my opinion for 3 months stay

  15. so your home country does not have any traffic, all the jobs are near where the employees live, no queues at ATMs, grocery stores, banks etc.?

where did you come from and why did you move then!?

imo property is still cheap here compared to europe for example but you can not really compare them directly so maybe you are right about that
