  1. It's all so relative. 6.5 yrs ago, I left England to come here. I was earning around 300,000 Baht per month.

Thais, who I'd known before, couldn't understand what I'd done. I eventually broke the monthly figure down after tax, NI, mortgage, travel to work, the cost of food, cigarettes, clothes etc etc ad nauseam.

Then explained that my property in London grossed me 100,000 a month. "So, who's the poor person now?". They still couldn't get it.

My g/f and I live comfortably on 65,000 a month and I'm also able to save money back home for the inevitable rainy days out of that.

That's 5 times less than what you used to get. I really can't go any

lower than for 3 times less what i can make at my homeland.

  2. Where on earth do you find these figures?

The Regents is undoubtly the best international school in the Pattaya area and the annual costs do not exceed 1M baht all incl., less than half your estimate. There are even much cheaper alternatives, International School of Pattaya (ISP) around 300,000/year, Wuttichot and Satit Siriwhatever around 100,000/year.

Unless you have an extravagant lifestyle I think most people would be fine with 125,000 baht/month.

Does someone really think the student in International School of

Pattaya (ISP) around 300,000/year, or Wuttichot and Satit Siriwhatever

around 100,000/year get that much less educated than attending

    Regents (1 million Bhat/year)?

I don't think that much differs really.

  3. My GF have been there before and said it was a succesfull bar, but a Thai bar (no farangs with lots of money). My question now is : Can I make enough money from this bar to live from with my GF and after some children (and be able to visit my relatives in Holland sometimes). You people out there who are familiar with Isaan please advise me on this. Any help is very much apreciated. Luuk

You gona have enough money to eat Som Tam Poo para everyday,

if that's not, then you might end up eating your girlfriend (hope

she isn't pregnant from you) :o

  4. -It's pure greed and you'r not a thailand lover.

Sorry, but what is this apparent obsession with associating wanting a better income as being greedy?

Greed is the quest of wealth for the sake of being wealthy.

This is hardly the same as the quest of a better income (or even wealth if you will), with the goal of providing a better life for one's family and a better education for one's children.

Specific to myself, one of my fiancee's and my goals is to save $120,000 USD for her daughter's university education (appx $30K a year). If I can figure out a way to save more so that she can go to a better school if she wants to, is that greedy?

If I want to try and save more money so that we can build or buy a nice second house, possibly as a vacation spot or as an investment for some economic security, is that greedy?

Is this what you really mean?

    Cheers,

    Spee (สพี)

The issue here for most farang is that they have to give up

many things aside from earnings if they want to live in Los,

because simply not much financial oppurtunitis, but more

adventurous and less of routine life.

Ofcourse everyone like to earn and save more, but not every

one is ready to give up freedom and happiness for sake of

making little more money. Even some guys think marriage

makes them slave to their work.

  5. I can never understand how millions of Thai population survive as their average earning mostly is under 10000bth a month? I am a Thai living in UK, may be I am out of touch of how my people live? :o

I have seen it so many times here people(farangs) arguing about you can't live on such and such amount of money and it s impossible to do so.

I have read the Thai newspaper about government crackdown on prostitutes at Lumpini park. And they mention about between the girls arrested, a few of them are respectable civil servants earning good salary of....6500 bth!!! yes according to the paper they call it good salary. And people here said you just about to survive on 200,000 bth. Are you really talking about living in Thailand? :D

The living style is differnet like say:

-Thais don't pay as much for having sex partner.

-Most farangs can't eat thai food all the time.

-Most farangs don't like to stay home and drink somthing called mehkong.

-Most farangs need to pay "At least 10,000 Bhat for accommodtion" even

    more if married.

-Thais don't travel as much farang do.

    and much more

Most important farang being overcharged for most things compared

    to thais.

  6. I didn't list any more higher amounts for reasons:

-I didn't think they are seemingly achiveable.

-It's pure greed and you'r not a thailand lover.

What <deleted>! So because I have a good UK business that pays 2-3 million baht per month, by definition, I am not a Thailand lover?????

The question is about "Moving to thailand" and i don't see

any reason that you have to, unless you can make half

that amount. No, you aren't greedy, because your earning

is huge, and you should stay where you are.

I am talking about those who grumble for losing $2-3K a

month because of less income resulting from move to thailand

  7. Does it realy matter whethere you should have money when

you are much older, except for the money leeches that you

    need to have around you.

I will make another poll to see what amount per month

make it worthy moving to thailand.

Don't bother - it's been done already. Several times.

Several times? I did a search here and came up with nothing.

Can you provide a link for me. Thanks

Thank for links. But topics in all above link is "what amount

    to live off with?"

My Question and poll intention is how much you need to make?

A guy like me might spend from 60K a month in Thailand and

i need to save extra 80K, otherwise might not make decision for

moving to thailand, just for possibility i might to need to return home

some day, who knows if thai government don't kick you out some

    day

    I don't know, may be i have a problem that others don't have :o

  8. How about a another poll?

Would you want to live in Thailand if their were no cheap ,beautiful and availabel ,women ,prepared to go with overweight burnt out falangs!

Suppose my question is why do so many people fall in love with Thailand?

I mean their are plenty of other cheap to live in asian countries?

Even sex wasn't readily avaiable, i didn't care and still would be

living in thailand permanently, if i was assure i could stay financialy

    stable.

It's the friendliness of the people and the culture, thai and foriegn

food varity, safty, ....that attracts more people. Thailand seems to

have the best combination except for bad earning.

  9. Does it realy matter whethere you should have money when

  10. I have requested moderator to add more choices.

But my question aimed for long-term living, where

you will be driven crazy, bored in some these much

smaller islands  :o  Do you agree?

I have been to phuket and pattay. I think Pukhet

resembled a big city while maintaining it's natural

living too, my other alternative to BKK

but then I wouldn't mind Koh Samui as the "big city life" :D can be more fun (esp for a dedicated shopper such as myself :D ). Koh Phangan isn't just the Full Moon Party and to immediately assume that people who carry a backpack have no money is sheer foolishness. Phuket doesn't appeal, too busy, too many idiots, too much traffic.

I enjoyed your reply back :D . Ok since you are knowledgeable about Kou samui

and kou phangan, I have few question for you:

-What's the reason for water outages in samui, and when and where happens?

-I read somewehere in here, that less and less tourist are coming to samui

despite most accomadtion are empty, but more homes are build everyday,

seems very contradicting? why is that?

-What is popoulation of local samuies and phangan , and what total toursit

turn out in a year and which catogaries?

-Is samui more expensive than Pukhet in general? Does samui have muslim

community like phuket, if yes, what is their profession Exa. fisherman, shop

    keeper,.. ?

    Thanks

1st question: water shortages on Samui have been mainly the result of overbuilding without adding to the infrastructure. Same problem as everywhere in Thailand really, lack of forward planning.

    2. Don't know about less tourists, frankly, most people complain during the off-season, it's feast or famine (Phangan is the same) everybody pretty much comes at the same time. So, other times of the year feel quite empty. I kind of like it, gives the place a homier feeling to not be "touristy" year round. As for more homes, many of those tourists come, like what they see and choose to stay. I see no contradiction.

    3. Samui is around 50,000 -60,000, actual population including migrant workers probably tops a total of 80,000 but I don't know that for sure. Koh Phangan is about 7,000 registered locals (ie people on the tabien bahn) add in newcomers and migrants and we are well over 10,000 now. Tourists? No idea. Sorry, I am sure the TAT would have those statistics.

    4. No idea if Samui is more expensive, how do you mean? Land? cost of living? Muslims in Samui tend to be fishermen I believe. On Koh Phangan we have a small local muslim community, a great bunch of people overall; hardworking, good neighbors. Mostly fishermen or coconut plantations. Same as the rest of the locals here.

Thanks for info. For your info, pukhet is 400,000 locals and attracts

avarage monthly 250,000 toursit. According to some survey, avarage

spending per person in Phuket is going down.

Need to pay a visit to kou samui too, But seems pukhet is the more

right place for me after Bangkok

  11. I think Hua Hin attracts more expats and some regular toursits

,and but don't attract large # of new toursits every time.

Now you're getting my meaning :o Sounds like you have an underlying plan to mass market/flog to alot of sheep/tourists....

Ibiza could be better for your purpose?

Come on man, out with it already, what's your master plan here anywayz? :D

Most plans need money and need some time to be given to it

work around it and not try work it immidiatly. Briefly i can tell

you that i am targeting Middle eastern who traveling more to

east than before, since they travel less to west now because

of the visa requirement and the way they are treated at airports.

What my plan is that's a secret, meantime not easy to apply

immidiatly. I need to think a lot

  12. Wha tha??? You left off Hua Hin???? Easily the BEST lifestyle choice in LOS imho.

I'm heading there to settle after work's all done. I'll put one caveat, IF Chiang mai were on the coast, WITH Doi Suthep, now that would be a choice! Meantime, best is even further south of hua Hin, near Sam Roi Yawt natnl park....and don't tell anybody! (oops;)

I selected These cities/resorts that have to meet two criteria:

    -Attracting large number of toursit

    -longterm living

I think Hua Hin attracts more expats and some regular toursits

,and but don't attract large # of new toursits every time.

    I agree on chiang mai.

  13. Personally, I prefer CT as there is no noisy mosque-  fewer hostile glares - and it is just as close to BT Beach.  A friend used to rent an apt. on the Ao Bang Tao road almost down to the beach road - for about B4500.  Depending on where you live - be prepared for water outages.

How they know you are an American? Doesn't make sense they give

just anyone with blond hair a hostile glare.
