Can you guys distinguish between 'need' and 'greed' ?
I'd venture to say a large majority of the world's population could not...if you want to be brutally honest about it.
Yes, I agree and say 90% are money hungry and slave to their jobs.
Me too, but trying to change

We went out finshing (with a long tail boat) a couple of times with my wifes brother who is a fisherman at the west coast (out of Bang Tao Bay). We usually left around 4 pm and returned at 8 pm and caught enough (fish and calamari) to have them prepared for a 6 person dinner at the restaurant (Laypang Beach Bar) when we returned. The whole trip was 500.- BHT.
Besides getting splashed with the squidds' "ink" it was great fun.
Edit: The fishing equipment was on board and others bought it in a shop on Choeng Talays' mainroad.
Thank you for advice.
Is this the same place:
http://www.phuket-photos.com/layan-beach-r...ge=IMG_7890.htm
We are two person, would your brother's wife offer this service to any
one and for what price? If yes, i need to have his contact. If not, any
place to fish without a boat?
How much usually the resuturant charge for preparing the catchs?
So basicaly you saying that we don't need to carry any fishing tools
if we go with any fisherman? And do you have to thrown back big fishes
into the sea or can we have them?
Imagin how it would be for a Three foot long fish eaten by two person? Yummy

Hi,
I can see the questions from two previous posters went unaswered
since last 3 month, i would like to add few questions:
1- which are the places that few months stay toursit like me
can go fishing without a boat, i have motorbike and can go any
part of the island
2-Where i can buy fishing equipment in Pukhet?
3-what kind of fish can be fished, and how big?
4-Can just anyone go fishing without any kind permission?
5-where/What are the cheapest onboard fishing on boat,
if one or two person only? because i know most deep
sea fishing usually needs people to cover the expense
of like 1,700 bhat a day per person, which is costly doing
very often.
6-Any reseturant that speclize on cooking fisherman daily catch
for me and what they charge, because i know such service
exist for deep sea fishing for small catch (Is big catch thrown
back in sea?)
Will do if you just provide a good link for this with some info
Thanks for any help

Oh! For younger people, any amount they can survive on would be just fine! In that case I'd go for 15-20K.
Here formula is:
Worthwhile <> Survival
A young expat in thailand shouldn't be just thinking about survival,
anyone can survive with 10,000bhat. This is how me and most other
young generation mentality should be in today's world.
Worthwhile has two criteria with regard to income/ Earning:
1-Living a better life here than in farangland
2-Be prepared to return home any moment by having some saving
& experties after a long years stay in thailand.

Would have voted for Hua Hin. Lots of tourists there, maybe not enough to do for a living situation, but fine for a few months. Like the low rainfall situation there.
Hua hin will be added soon, check later. Thanks

A father writes.
Even so, if I were ever to see a teacher from my daughter's school in a gogo bar bouncing a teenage hooker up and down on his knee, I would be in the headmaster's office the next day demanding his resignation.

Will it count if a teenage hooker with dildo is bouncing the teacher
up and down on his knee, would you demand the poor teacher resignation

> Some questions for "Chiang mai" lovers:
> 1-Why everyone so sensetive about traffic, do you drive
> your own car? What if not then?
I do yes. I'd say most Chiang Mai expats who are living there long time AND live outside the city (again I'd say that's a majority) own cars. If you live in town then public transport or a moped would do I suppose.
> 2-How large is farang community?
Well... Not only do I not know, I'm also uncomfortable with the word 'community' as I feel that expats up North are less inclined to shack up close together in all kinds of clubs or other ways of socializing. For sure there are expats who meet doing the things they enjoy doing, such as golf, bars, church, sports, NGO work, etc, etc. but it's hardly a homogenous group. Total numbers though I think are significant, but VERY spread out. I can't even think of a particular 'foreign residential area' in town. Of course all the housing estates have a fair share of foreigners living there because houses are relatively easy/cheap to find and rent there.
> 3-What is annual tourist statstic? Pukhet is 3 millions, Kou samui is 800K.
www.tat.or.th Seems to me mostly backpakers and older package tourers come to Chiang Mai compared to the seaside tourist resorts which get more of the in-between crowd.
> 4-How nightlife is like in CM?
Loads of Thai oriented nightlife. Plus some tourist bars, a couple of foreign oriented disco's and gogo bars (three :-) ) so hardly anything compared to Bangkok/Pattaya/Phuket. Comparable to Hua Hin perhaps.
> 5-Are realy Chiang mai Women more pretty than what you see in Bkk,
> as it is said by some?
Well. Many foreigners seem to go for bargirls and among those, many are not from Chiang Mai but are for example from Isarn or hill tribe or from elsewhere. Foreigners with 'real' Chiang Mai girls seem to be a minority, though I'm one of them. (And no, real Chiang Mai girls aren't better in any way. And "Pretty" is in the eye of the beholder and on strict case-by-case basis)
> 6-Do Chiang mai woman are more conservative and trustworthy
> than other places as i been told by some thai taxi drivers?
Well, taxi drivers also think Americans are 40 times richer than Thais, Europeans 50 times and Brits 80 times as those are the current exchange rates.
So to answer the question: I don't think so. If anything, class/background is the deciding factor. There are some seriously poor/rural people living arounf Chiang Mai and the North and I doubt they're significantly different from poor/rural people up North East or elsewhere. Same for the middle/upper class. Chiang Mai does seem to have a middle class that's bigger than most other places, which is good. You see less really rich and really poor people. Again, just my perception and it could be wrong, I haven't researched it.
> 7-How much does it cost for cheapest fair by air from Bkk back to CM everytime?
www.airasia.com, nokair.com, thaiair.com
Mostly between 800 and 2200 baht one way, depending on when you book and when you fly.
Cheers,
Chanchao
Thanks to Chanchao and Ramdomchanced for giving some detailed reply

I am a muslim, and i know exactly what need to be done.
Autonomy is wrong thing to do, because thailand will lose
its control over the south
Common sense. Look at some Arab countries like Kuwait,
United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Saudi Arabia (most religious),
..... Why they are not warriors like Palastinies, Iraqis, Afghanis...
It is the MONEY. When you are financialy screwed,
you will also try to screw everyone else. If you have nothing,
you do fight, because simply you have nothing to lose and
everything (at least somthing) to gain.
Again, comon sense, Thai malay in south thailand
like to compare themselves with muslims malay in malaysia, and
ask why they are much much richer? consequently, they will
put all the blame on thai government
Doesn't thai government know about this. Ofcourse it is very
crestal clear to them.
But they don't seems to be able to financily support these
regions in the south, because Thailand itself is a poor
country.
May be it's time for thailand to get some help from
richer muslim countries or just any other countries, by purposing them
to invest in projects in the south differnet ways possible
Other way is sending them overseas to work as labour force in other
countries, especialy rich muslim countries, like what India, Philipine,
Indonesia, are doing now. keeping the boys out & busy is very good idea

I voted null because it doesn't specify WHERE in Thailand, or if this is money to be made or retirment income.. There's a difference.
Working in Bangkok, I wouldn't go for less than 100K, and even that's iffy.
Upcountry though, especially when retired, I'm less bothered about the amounts. 30-50 would be just fine then.
This poll is more geared toward younger people who have
to make make a choice with regard to earming in west and
Los.
In your case, think of as you had a same choice going back
to the past, what decision you had taken, especialy that you
know the outcome since you are old enough to say it.
I think older generation in Los can determain it better what
to go for.

Does the word "fidelity" mean anything to you? Lucky me I have never met you.
Fidelity? I never mentioned the word "wife", because i couldn't or didn't
know where to find the right one.
All i mentioned was commercial sex or girlfriends. Even once my GF betrayed
me, despite i was sending here 20,000 plus baht every month and i sticked
with her only during all that period.
Sometime i think it's farangs stupidity, that go for easy girls. Easy come,
easy goes.

The living style is differnet like say:
-Thais don't pay as much for having sex partner.
-Most farangs can't eat thai food all the time.
-Most farangs don't like to stay home and drink somthing called mehkong.
-Most farangs need to pay "At least 10,000 Bhat for accommodtion" even
more if married.
-Thais don't travel as much farang do.
and much more
Most important farang being overcharged for most things compared
to thais.
I Guess I'm not "most Farangs" then
Just did a quick google
Ave earnings in UK 473.8 Pounds/week = 133,000 bht a month
Ave earning US 530.88$= 84800 bht a month
Source
http://www.wales.gov.uk/keypubstatisticsfo...04/sb4-2004.htm
http://www.bls.gov/news.release/realer.nr0.htm
I was supprised at the american one , would of thought it would of been higher. Anyway there are before tax fig with the british you would probably take home about 80,000 bht a month.
What I can understand is if these are the Ave earnings in UK/US I'd assume that the ave person could live on them. So why when they come here would they NEED to make 200,000 plus.
Yes its great if you get it, but you dont actually need it.
I have combined total amount of earning from above poll and then
devided it to number of people who voted, and the result was:
75,000Baht least for each person.
It's close to 80,000Bhat average earning in UK or US "AFTER TAX DEDUCTION"
Now, i have a question for all American or UK citizens:
What about your retirment account when you get older, because you
didn't pay tax in thailand, does it mean you won't be getting money
in your account in future?
p.s. Considering that most of you can't make any saving from 75,000Baht
earning also if you live in Los
-
I have had some success and some failure on the FTSE in uk which I will divuldge later.
As Ajarn so sagely say's , drinking and posting doesn't mix.....
Discretionary traders can drink all they want and Should not trade at all.
If you are a mechanical trader and have your rules set in stone,
You can trade even you are fully drunk.
Even very advanced system traders do unattended automized trading.
Drinking doesn't and shouldn't have much affect on your trading overall
Not having pre-set plan or backtested profitable strategy is what cost
you money

Just trying to pump up the thread. Thanks

Well, said. May I also add that if you are married then you have nothing to pay for regarding sex and if you own a house or condo then you have no rent to pay either. And yes as a Thai I can tell you that me and my mates in LOS don't sit at home drinking mehkong.

It is easy to generalise and make assumptions.
"-Thais don't pay as much for having sex partner." What is the basis for this statement? Girlfriend, mia noi, casual sex, commercial sex? This statement doesn't make sense, specially not for justifying that farangs need more money than Thais.
"-Most farangs can't eat thai food all the time." Does it cost more to fry some potatoes and a porkshop at home? Does this make a substancial difference in expenses?
"-Most farangs don't like to stay home and drink somthing called mehkong." Maybe most Thais don't like it either? Is your barhopping the reason you need more money?
"-Most farangs need to pay "At least 10,000 Bhat for accommodtion" Why? What's wrong with a room for 2000 Baht?
These are excuses, there is no necessity for farangs to spend more on these things than Thais. Of course you want to be comfortable, but let's not pretend this is why you 'need' more money than a Thai.
1- Girl friends or commercial sex. I need change somtimes if feel sexlife
geting lousy.
2-Firstly, I don't have time to cook at home and you can't just cook every
meal in home.
3-Thai bars are usually cheaper, and most thai might drink outdoor, but
not in a bar necessarily, and some don't drink imported one
4-2000Baht home? Even fine with you, What if someone need to visit you
or have a company some night? Make sure you can sleep on the ground
because no space for king beds

I'd go for Chaing Mai, as has been said earlirer its got every thing but without the drawbacks of BKK, ie polution, traffic (well not so much anyway) . Its got more of a small town feel to it and you can be out into the countryside in no time.
As far as beach resorts i'd say Phuket, most of the other islands ars to small I feel to actually live on, nice to visit though
Some questions for "Chiang mai" lovers:
1-Why everyone so sensetive about traffic, do you drive your own car? What
if not then?
2-How large is farang community?
3-What is annual tourist statstic? Pukhet is 3 millions, Kou samui is 800K.
4-How nightlife is like in CM?
5-Are realy Chiang mai Women more pretty than what you see in Bkk, as it
is siad by some?
6-Do Chiang mai woman are more conservative and trustworthy than other
places as i been told by some thai taxi drivers?
7-How much does it cost for cheapest fair by air from Bkk back to CM everytime?
Thanks

Pattaya and Rayong are islands?
No. Because they aren't surrounded by water from every side.
Chiang mai is going toe to toe with pukhet. can someone
say what is local poulation, expat poulation and is there any
toursim district in CM like sukhumvit in Bkk?
-
Definitely, Hua Hin. The beach got a recent 4 star rating - no beach in Thailand surveyed got 5. That surprised me, but good news, particularly with regard to water quality.
Why No five rating for any beach in Los? I remember in some internet
source that Phi Phi island was listed among top 10 resorts list.
-
That was put very well, the two points made:
1. I'm not here for the money. Its the lifestyle and being happy.
2. The living style is differnet like say:
-Thais don't pay as much for having sex partner.
-Most farangs can't eat thai food all the time.
-Most farangs don't like to stay home and drink somthing called mehkong.
-Most farangs need to pay "At least 10,000 Bhat for accommodtion"
-Thais don't travel as much farang do.
Point 2 is what Thai's never really understand. They are paying of a bank loan, while I am renting at 5 times the price. Yes, in Thailand falangs travel more. We are here to see the country and get around.
Well stated.
Thanks.
Above poll seemingly indicates that:
- Mojority would settle for less than 100K Baht/month.
- Some higher figures could be achiveable in Los for some
and for some little exaggeration.
-200K<...>250K should be overseas earning to my estimation.
-
The girls I knew in Chiang Mai said that 250 baht a day was good, so that's 5000 a month, assuming 5-day week. Accommodation and food swallowed about 3000 of that so they had 2000 a month to blow on whatever.
Now, if she say that in the west, people think she is unmotivated and narrow
minded person
To my surprise, why some thai girls wants at least 20,000Baht
from boyfriends who send money from Overseas, when they
can make just 5k on their own (I am not talking about nighttime business)?

Guys like you are really to be called "Brave Heart"
I will have guarantted 150,000 a month from my investments,
Even i do make a move to Los, but seems having hard time to give up
another extra 250-300K earning offer from a company.
I know i won't have much saving if i come to los, but back home
can save a lot money yearly
But I just hate where i am, i wish i had never came to Los. Sorry
