The virus is transmitted, in the main, from exhaled droplets, and I doubt very much whether they would travel any further than one's chin, if indeed one had the virus.
Whether or not it's exercising, I believe the rule for wearing a mask on a motorcycle is a nonsense, based on zero evidence of transmission – – but as the saying goes TIT!
100% agree, it is one of my pet hates, the government have managed to persuade folks to wear a mask on a motorcycle in a relatively short space of time and yet haven't succeeded, or truly tried, to get them to wear a crash helmet in decades.
The chances of catching or transmitting Covid whilst riding a moving motorcycle are almost close to zero, the chances of being seriously hurt or killed whilst not wearing a crash helmet are extremely high. I know which I'd take my chances on!
The police ignore the lack of crash helmet and are far more likely to fine somebody for not wearing a mask on the motorcycle.
One of the recommendations for Covid prevention is good air ventilation, you can't get more ventilation than riding a motorcycle.
Twisted priorities IMHO.

My son showed me photos of the fireworks display this weekend, there wasn't an inch of space on the beaches etc. from what I could see, very few wearing masks, most swigging booze, he also showed me a video his mate sent him, full on party in a nightclub.................
Yet in theory you can't even have an alcoholic drink with a meal in a restaurant in Pattaya, total hypocrisy!

The only way to combat the virus, at present, is to totally lock down everyone and everything except for the most essential services, for two weeks or more. That is impossible, so the virus will continue to circulate. So-called herd immunity has so far been unachievable, and anyway I'm not sure how letting everyone become infected helps get rid of it by creating antibodies. But then, I'm not a scientist and they know better than me.
But locking people down does not combat the virus itself, how can it?
I agree that it does in theory help the healthcare services temporarily, I do stress temporarily.
The whole reason that there are protests in Europe now is because people feel that they have been misled, cajoled in to getting vaccinated and told that this will stop them getting seriously ill or dying from the virus, which is supposed to protect the healthcare sector from meltdown and prevent the lockdowns and yet the lockdowns are still happening, there are only so many times this can be done before people question the reasoning behind it.
One thing is for certain, the virus is not going away, possibly ever, the march of time will defeat it, along with possibly better vaccines or natural immunity.

And now there's yet another new variant coming out of Africa, far more potent than even the Delta variant. Countries are going into lockdown again, football behind closed doors again in Austria. Germany possibly to follow. Riots on the streets in the Netherlands against restrictions. There is no sign at all that the virus is being beaten. It simply adapts and grows stronger. The world is in for a very rough time for awhile yet.
You may well be correct, the trouble is the lockdowns do nothing but kick the can down the road delaying the inevitable and the longer the lockdown is the more susceptible the country becomes as there is less immunity, it also allows the virus to strengthen, the last 18+ months has proven this.
Lock, unlock, lock.................
The old saying "You can run but you cannot hide" springs to mind.

I looked it up, you are right BUT the first patch of land which was the road frontage and the shopping centre was sold a long time before the back of the site. It was converted to a fair ground first then the shopping centre was built. That was well before 2018.
It was indeed, first sale was in 2006 and pretty sure that the further option to purchase all was in that sale agreement.

When are they going to learn that lockdowns simply do not and will not stop Covid, agreed they slow it down temporarily, as soon as the lockdown is eased it comes back with vengeance.
To date, the only way to stem is vaccination and even this hasn't been around long enough to know if it is truly effective.
The stark reality is that lockdowns cause a lot of harm, mentally, physically and financially.
The world has to find a more sustainable way forward.

The old small one on 2nd Rd heading towards Thrappaya (in fact that used to be called Pratumnak Rd many years ago, from the Pattaya Tai/2nd junction... until they 'extended' 2nd Rd), was well used by me as I often stayed at The Residence Garden. Stopped off there many times to restock the room fridge, having had them remove their minibar stock. It was actually a decent sized fridge. Sad to hear that Friendship shop is no more.
The old Friendship supermarket was actually on the link road between beach road and 2nd road, close to Bamboo Bar as per post above yours, this one was the original location long before the 'new' one on South Road proper and was quite small, they did extend it.

My wife renewed her 5 year license this morning, she is Thai but had the following information which might be useful.
All the procedures that were on the ground floor inside the building including car tax renewal and the machine for DL renewal tickets are now outside in large open tents.
There is a desk outside where your documents are checked and a card with a number on it is given to you.
They call numbers in batches of ten for the eye and braking tests upstairs, foreigners were also in her batch so it seems they are also able to renew whether by prior appointment or just turning up I don't know. Some agents were also in evidence helping foreigners.
The video room is now closed and foreigners now have to go to one of four locations away from the center to watch the video, transport to the video location is apparently provided if you want it.
Thai people will previously have watched the video on line, and already taken an online test, they will have an appointment.
That's about all I could get from her regarding the actual procedure.
Thanks, I will perhaps go to there and find out, or see if my son can go and get the info, worst case, will engage an agent to assist.

Believe it or not. My wife definitely has no reason to lie to me about the content of the phone call with the LTD officer. Nor does it make sense that the officer lied to my wife.
I am not even suggesting that your wife is lying, what is more likely is she has been told bum info by whoever she spoke to on the phone, absolutely nothing strange in that.
What I do know is Foreigners are renewing their licenses at the moment, I am just trying to find out the procedure from someone who has recently, simply as calling DLT is a waste of time.

"All Land Transport Offices have suspended all services related to driving license and transport personal license from March 31st 2020 until the state of emergency is terminated or until there is another announcement."
https://www.dlt.go.th/en/In other words: currently I can't renew my 5-year-driving-license which expires at the end of June 2021. My wife called LTD Banglamung and asked for it.
Answer LTD: NO driving-license extensions at this time for foreigners, because they have to sit with lots of other foreigners for more than one hour in a small room and look the information-video (infection risk).
Extension for Thai-people is okay because they can look the video online and confirm it later via app and ID-Card number-code.
Question of my wife: When will it be possible for foreigners to extend their license again?
Answer LTD: We don't know yet. You have to follow our information on social media or phone us again next month.Unless they have closed again, this is not correct, certainly were allowing renewals with a prior appointment.

Anybody renewed their 5 year license recently?
Mine is due on 1st August and wondering if the process is the same, i.e. go to DLT office by Regents and get an appointment prior.
Going after the 1st August still result in getting close to six years, or have they stopped this now?
Any updates appreciated.

Absolutely NOT true.
I was once quoted a price. I complained that I lived in Thailand and the price was reduced by 50%!
Yes, a certain hospital group has a four tier pricing policy (I know an accountant that worked for them)
1. Thai Price
2. Long Term Farang Price
3. Tourist Price
4. Insurance Price

The vehicle now has Bangkok plates. The Bangkok car dealer, from whom the vehicle was purchased, said he would arrange to register the car in my name, meaning my name in the blue book, in Bangkok. I did provide a COR, with my Pattaya address, to the dealer.
It will be interesting to see if the dealer can do this, DLT have been insisting on the vehicle being registered in the same province as the registered owner for quite sometime now, especially if the owner is not Thai.

If this highway you speak of is 120 km/h why does it have signs posted reading 90 km/h?
At least those 'your speed is XXX' signs are having some effect.
This is very simple to answer, the digital signs do not have the capability to display 3 digits, where it is most predominant is on the stretch between the service area and the toll heading towards BKK, this is mainly due to the badly constructed bridges.
Regardless, the speed limit is 120.

I have a used one that is in very good condition, PM if interested

From what you posted above you need the work permit at time of shipment. I would ask the freight forwarder to check with their customs agent for advice.
This is required only when it arrives at the port in Thailand.

If the land is to be in your wife's name, the only reason that you would need to sign any document for the purchase of land as a foreigner would be to say that you are not entitled to claim 50% of this in the event of divorce.
Some land offices have been known to try to enforce this.

Yes, disconnected, but speed seems about the same.
What ethernet cable type are you using, if it is an older type, this may be why you are not getting the speed when plugged in to the router, cable needs to be at least Cat 5e or better.

Surely no travel means no travel. No exceptions!
All those in the photo should be immediately banned from travel for congregating in groups more than ...7?
No exceptions to travel would mean almost certain closure of some essential services, interrupt the supply chain etc.
There are several reasons why exceptions have to be made.
As for the people in the photo, sorry, I strongly disagree, this is not their fault, it is the lack of thought by the local authorities that have put the restrictions in place without any proper notice, or clear instructions and didn't put a safe queue system in place after knowing that a lot of people would come.

My PC isn't capable of any higher speed that it's getting now, with or without a cable.
That is not correct, your computer has a gigabit ethernet card, so is capable of utilizing as much speed as your internet connection can give, if the technician was getting 800mbps on WiFi, then you should get at least this via an ethernet cable plugged directly in to the modem.

Boris Johnson, known as U-turn Man, does change his mind within days, rather then hours.
if the general was running the real military war, his tactic would confuse his opponents and gave him victory.
To be fair there has been no u-turn, just inaccurate reporting, at no point was there a total ban on travel to or from the 5 provinces, restrictions yes, total lockdown no.

Duty/customs fees on watches?
in General Topics
Posted · Edited by Mattd
If you import under the regs, a quick search shows that wrist watches attract 40% import duty, this would be added to the original cost then 7% VAT applied.
Could be more if it is CIF.
A lot of variables, i.e., where it originates from etc.

HS code is 910219
Basically, buy it here!
