  1. I've just accessed the site, and it opens ok for me, can't submit though as I'm not due a report.
  2. I had an unauthorised debit made on my Bangkok Bank debit card a few weeks ago, the card had never been used and was in a draw at home, I did get a refund but I had to file a police report first. I had a Natwest MasterCard some years ago, probably 18 years ago, and despite it being not being used for years previously, and at home in London, somebody used the account for a spending spree in South Korea, a country I’d never been to. A short phone call to Natwest and the debt was cleared and a new card issued. I’m glad to hear that you and your accounts have never been hacked or had cash stolen, but plenty of others have.
  3. What was the source of your belief that holders of a "spouse visa" allows entry into the UK from a Red list Country? The advice from the UKBA, whilst unclear, doesn't seem to imply that is the case. Right to reside ‘Right to reside’ means you have the right to live in the UK. You have a right to reside in the UK if any of the following is true: you have ‘right of abode’ in the UK, if you’re a British citizen you’re a citizen of Ireland you have pre-settled or settled status through the EU Settlement Scheme you have indefinite leave to enter (ILE) or remain in the UK (ILR) you’re exempt from immigration control https://www.gov.uk/right-to-reside Thank you for the clarification regarding the processing of applications.
  4. Bangkok Bank, I suspect that isn't official policy but more a case of how "rules" change from bank to bank or even branch to branch.
  5. I little snippet regarding what happened to a good friend of mine a couple of weeks ago. He has very little in the bank, he's well past retirement age and doesn't have a Work Permit, and no way would he pass the normal lending critera for a credit card here in Thailand. He took out a small accident insurance policy with a bank in Pattaya and tried to pay with a UK debit card online which was declined. He went back to the bank and was told that he could only pay with a credit card, he had no idea why and neither did the bank person. When he said that he didn't have a credit card the bank person went away and returned saying that a credit card was approved, it was sent a couple of days later. I'm not arguing with your claim that "you cannot get an unsecured cr card without a WP", except that it doesn't always seem to be the case. I certainly got an unsecurred cc some years ago without a work permit, I still have it and the limit has increased over the years, but as you say you're stating "the current rules not what you did many years ago". seems nothing is ever straightforward here.
  6. Yes, until Thailand is removed from the Red List your wife will not be allowed to enter, or travel, to the UK. Visas are currently not being processed. The conditions for entering the UK will depend on the rules in force when she’s able to travel.
  7. Let's move this to the insurance forum.
  8. @pixelaoffyYou mentioned the Bangkok Bank in London, they aren't a retail bank but they will transfer funds to an account in Thailand, it's been a while since I've used them and I think I had to register first, but this details their service. https://www.bangkokbank.com/en/Personal/Other-Services/Transfers/Transferring-Into-Thailand/Transfer-money-from-UK-to-Thailand-via-London-Branch
  9. Of course as travellers from Thailand, and other red listed countries, are currently required to pay for a hotel quarantinne on arrival in the UK, providing they're allowed to enter, the fact that you're vaccinated is of little consequence, but that wasn't your question. This is the relevant current requrements regarding vaccinations. https://www.gov.uk/guidance/red-amber-and-green-list-rules-for-entering-england#amber-list-rules If you are fully vaccinated After you arrive in England you must take a COVID-19 test on or before day 2. This applies if you’re fully vaccinated under either: the UK vaccination programme the UK vaccine programme overseas an approved vaccination programme in Europe or the USA - not all are recognised in England Find out how to prove you are fully vaccinated, which European countries this applies to and approved vaccination programmes for Europe and the USA. It also applies if you are: taking part in an approved COVID-19 vaccine trial in the UK or the USA under 18 and resident in the UK, a UK Overseas Territory, the USA or one of the specified European countries
  10. The Tax Code on my monthly online payslip is the Personal Allowance minus my State Pension, this figure is for my Pension Provider to ensure they deduct the full tax due. Any letters I've received from HMRC just have my NI Number. My P60's show the tax code and the NI Number. I'd be interested to hear if an earlier poster receives a response from the HMRC regarding the PA for his widow on his eventual demise, it seems ridiculous that a recipient of a Widows Pension should be charged tax on the total paid and then have to go through the rigmarole of seeking a refund every year.
  11. Indeed, I used my UK based bank to send cash here. they charged me £20 to send the cash, I was then debited with a further £25 from an intermediary bank, with Kasikorn taking a further cut to receive it and, as you rightly say, the exchange rate wasn't too good.
  12. Kasikorn charge a fee for inward global receipts of .25%, there's a minimum charge of 200 Baht and a maximum charge of 500 Baht. Wise isn't an inward global receipt so doesn't attract that fee. Kas fees1.docx
  13. Unhelpful and offensive posts along with some helpful rebuttals removed.
  14. The UK Embassy plays no part whatsoever in the visa application process, so no it would not be advisable to send them an email explaining what happened. All applications are considered by out of country UKVI staff, sending them an email as you describe will be of no use whatsoever. The UKVI will, more than likely, take the stance that the applicant is fully responsible for the contents of their application, and the fact your partner acted on the advice given by an "agent" will be of no interest, I doubt very much if they would respond. As you've been advised before, even a reputable agent would find it very difficult unravelling the damage done in the previous application.
  15. Visa National are nationals of a certain country who require a visa to enter another. For instance, my wife is Thai and I'm British, she needs a visa to enter the UK, so is a Visa National, I'm British, so don't need a visa, so am not a Visa National.
  16. You're still not correct, or maybe I don't understand what you're saying. She can enter SA using her British Passport, and doesn't need a visa, depending on Covid restrictions and her length of stay. She would also leave SA using her UK Passport, as she should clear SA Immigration using the same passport she entered with. She would show her Thai passport at check-in, either her new or old one, that would show the airline staff that she can enter Thailand without the need for a return ticket. She can't get a Thai Visa in either of her Thai passports to enter her home country.
  17. As a Thai National she wouldn’t need or be issued with a visa to enter Thailand with either her expired or new Thai passport. As a matter of interest a visa for Thailand can be transferred to a new passport for visa nationals, but for many countries the traveler can simply carry their new passport and their old one carrying their visa.
  18. The Hua Hin to Udon route is now showing as unavailable for the rest of the year.
  19. I think a number of us may be in the same boat, I certainly am, I can't fully understand the expanatory notes though it seems to imply that a recipient of a widows pension resident here would be taxed and would then have to go through the claims procedure, I suspect my wife may well struggle to understand the procedure. The tax on the Personal Allowance element is is about 9,400 Baht a month, so not an insignificant amount.
