  1. And they'll want them even less if this law goes through.
  2. I also prefer the current 49% limit. In the condo building where I own a unit, it's the foreign owners who act like the biggest jerks at the meetings and are continually making ridiculous demands that none of the Thai owners, nor myself, approve of. At meetings where votes take place, I usually side with Thai owners on most issues. If the law passes, and my condo building becomes dominated by foreign ownership, I will most likely rent my unit and move to a cheap rental just to get away from the angst-ridden foreigner condo politics.
  3. This comes nearly a year late and is a bit off topic, but could you explain a bit how you obtained a Lao motorcycle license? I have a one-year work visa for Laos and would like to begin using a motorbike for transport. Thank you.
  4. My first night in Thailand, 17 March 1977, I stayed at the Sakol Hotel behind the National Stadium, walking distance from Siam Square. A large, clean room cost 90 baht a night. The hotel was demolished in the early 1980s to make way for Mahboonkrong Center, today MBK Center, which opened in 1985.
  5. That makes sense. Sheer naivete on my part. i assume Thai officials keen to chase down and assess will prioritize cases by estimated revenue to be harvested rather than attempt to go after every single individual.
  6. I wonder how the Thai government intends to track income an individual earns but does not remit to Thailand. They'll have to establish a whole new gov't department with a staff of thousands skilled in espionage and hacking.
  7. Any updates on whether access from the Thai side has been opened?
  8. More likely a sign of increased demand for visas.
  9. I knew a German in Chiang Mai who overstayed 13 years. This was well before the Thai gov't established the ban system for excessive overstays, so when he finally had to leave Thailand to attend to affairs in Germany, he simply paid the fine at the airport, and came back a month or two later. I lost track of him after that, so don't know if he continued with another overstay.
  10. indeed. Amusingly, few here seemed to have noticed, despite the home page tagline "Powered by ChatGPT."
  11. "Powered by ChatGPT" according tothe website's home page. Also, the 100 beaches list on the actual website doesn't include Pattaya. The three Thai entries are Railay, Phra Nang and Pileh Bay, all in Krabi. Pattaya comes in a separate article, "Golden Beach Award 2024". AI travel journalism. Not to be taken seriously anywhere. https://www.beachatlas.com/100-best-beaches-world
  12. Da Nang is mentioned, number 52.
  13. Same here. I've not come across any other pharmaceutical as effective. Not even close. YMMV
  14. https://www.drugs.com/compare/oxymetazoline-nasal-vs-pseudoephedrine#:~:text=Oxymetazoline nasal has an average,89 ratings on Drugs.com.
  15. The PM should be blasted for offering zero statistics or other quantitative evidence suggesting the cannabis experiment has damaged Thailand either socially or economically as he has declared. The stats I've seen suggest quite the contrary on the economic front. With regard to social deficits and/or physical harm, I would think a multi-variate factor analysis carried out for at least a year would be needed to indicate results either way.
  16. I'm planning to cross from Mukdahan to Savannakhet on the evening of Wednesday March 13th. My flight gets in to Nakhon Phanom at 16:25/4:25pm, and a taxi from the airport to the bridge takes about two hours, so I should arrive at the bridge by 7 pm. I know that the bridge is open till 22:00 daily, but will the Thai and immigration posts on the bridge still be open at 19:00-19:30? Anyone done an evening crossing there in the last year? I would spend the night in Muk and cross in the morning, except I have to be in Savannakhet by 21:00 that night for the Savan Fun Fest. Thanks,
  17. A few years ago, while visiting Udon, I came across a relatively short street that was lined with shophouses serving as offices for several molam troupes (khana molam). I'm heading back to Udon next week, but can't remember where the street is exactly. I believe it was off Makkheng Rd near a large wat. Can anyone based in Udon help me out? Thanks.
  18. He doesn't appear to have paid anything. He served 19 years of a 20-year sentence in Kathmandu. The majority of prisoners sentenced to life in prison in Nepal - which in Nepal's justice system is a sentence of 20 years - are released after 14 years. Authorities released him a year early due to age and illness. More info here: https://www.wwnytv.com/2022/12/23/notorious-french-serial-killer-freed-nepal-prison/
