  1. Ha ha, how many people want the government to really know what their income is? And as for a spending boost to the economy, forget it. Most will take the opportunity to reduce their debts to money lenders so there will only be a boost to their bank accounts and not to spending on goods.
  2. This airline is currently in a hurried attempt to raise capital, so buyer beware. Check if any other airlines will accept Norse tickets if you do not want to find yourself stranded.
  3. It seems to me that this on not a Chiang Mai specific posting! So why is it in the CM forum?
  4. So "pay to play" is over! How about all the legal businesses that pay the RTP to simply trade lawfully during existing trading hours. In our city there is not one bar or other nighttime outlet that is not being extorted. Is Anutin going to put a stop to this corruption? I think not because his BiB will riot if he does. So once again his big mouth big claims are little more than an attempt to look like he is actually doing something useful.
  5. There are two types of vaccine, the southern hemisphere type was available here from early this year and covered you for our rainy season when this strain is prevalent. Currently the northern hemisphere vaccine version is available and provides cover for the Thai winter flu season. Flu vaccines provide about 6 months of protection and Thailand experiences both types thanks to having a location near the equator and to large scale international travel. During Covid the incidence of flu declined noticeably due to greatly reduced socialising and other protection methods but it is now increasing as is Covid in some countries like the UK. CM Mediclinic has the northern strain vaccine available now and I was vaccinated there 3 days ago.
  6. This government is no more democratic than the junta that came before. Things might appear calm right now but the intransigence of the military & the power elite, yes I am looking at you Thaksin, is creating a build up of resentment that will result in violence eventually. Maybe not this year or next but those who have been disenfranchised number many millions and will carry their anger forward. It is going to take bloodshed to effect true change here and it is not yet time. But it will come.
  7. "the national costume of Africa" does not exist. Africa is a continent made up of dozens of countries/nation's with hundreds of languages and cultures. There is no costume that represents Africa and certainly not the crappy fabrics being worn. And as for the blackface, it is a total insult. Many people in Africa have much lighter skins and many people from the subcontinent of India have much darker skins. To portray Africans in this way is a sickening display of ignoranceand racism. Chiang Mai Zoo, like all zoos should be closed.
  8. Our outside water filtration and softener systems were installed by Water Shop who continue to service them when requested. They have one senior person who speaks English but the rest only speak Thai. We have found them to be very competent and speedy in their work. Their shop is located in the rear car park, next to the other small shops at Big C Extra/Homepro on the Superhighway frontage road. Getting them to come to our house in Sanpiisua is no problem so Doi Saket should be similar.
  9. Have you tried Dr Chanakarn? I have had very good treatments spanning a decade at very reasonable prices. He works at various hospitals around CM but also has a clinic on Charoenprathet from 17:30 to 19:00 hrs nightly, walk in no appointment necessary. If surgery is needed you can choose your hospital. He is extremely busy and as he is team doctor to the national sports team he is away from CM from time to time. But he is my first choice for orthopedic matters.
  10. Airlines are a business and need to recoup the massive losses incurred during the pandemic as well as deal with higher fuel prices and the diversions caused by the Russian invasion of Ukraine and the subsequent loss of safe airspace. When services restarted there were still restrictions on use of masks and food service but even the Chinese airlines have now gone back to normal. Cabin crew numbers are determined by the number of emergency exits and individual airline standards and full service airlines like SQ have to follow these. In recent months SQ has experimented with their economy food service but other classes are unchanged from pre pandemic levels although of course menus change. The era of low fares has gone for at least the next few years because in some markets demand exceeds supply, but in Asia numbers have recovered more slowly especially out of China. As staff were let go during the pandemic shutdown airlines are battling to recruit every type of employee as well as bring stored planes back into service. It will be a few years before capacity is fully restored so until then fares will remain higher. It's the new normal!
  11. Vision Center, 18/2 Rathvithi Rd, Sriphum. Open 8am - 5pm daily. Used them for years and am happy with their service and choice of frames.
  12. Prices will not go down on anything. The cuts in the price of electricity and diesel are minuscule and the higher prices are already factored into everything in the distribution pipeline. When the lower prices kick in there will be other costs(like the minimum wage, imported raw materials etc) that will have risen that easily wipe out the small reductions, so manufacturers and distributors will claim that reductions do not apply and the consumer will see no savings. The shell game continues.
  13. Ha ha, why do you think he is also in charge of the economy. Thaksin is already PM from his hospital bed because he chose the cabinet and directly influences Srettha who is nothing but a thinly veiled cover for him. And before the end of the year Thaksin will be out of hospital/prison and running the country from his mansions or private plane.
  14. Why should the average low income Somchai living outside BKK and not using these trains be asked to subsidise those who do live in the capital? The ridiculous system adopted for building and operating the lines are open to massive profiteering, corruption of course, and price gouging. Cities like Singapore and Seoul regard rail commuting as an essential service in a coordinated multi modal plan and operate their systems with the commuter in mind, and not in the interests of profit skimming and other corrupt practices.
  15. This medical story is nothing but a confection created by the Thaksin camp. In turn the authorities are sh*itting themselves because they don't want him to die under their watch. It is highly amusing to watch these camps playing their games. Much more so than any TV comedy show.
  16. His whole story over the last days reads like a Jane Austen novel. So despite being well enough to jet around the globe and to be personally deciding on the new cabinet he has now had a "touch of the vapours" and needs a better hospital to give him oxygen. All he needed was someone to loosen his corsets! Theatre of the Absurd used to work for him but the new generation of voters can see right through his antics.
  17. I bet these self same villagers all voted yet again for the Thaksin party, just like the last 3 decades. But wait, they will soon get 10 000 baht each in a digital wallet that they can use to pay for repairs themselves because after spending 560 billion thb on the giveaway the government will claim they have no funds left to fix that road.
  18. Just look at the reality of the Chinese HST network. Shoddy (Tofu Dregs they call it in China) construction of the tracks and signals, wholesale bribery and corruption and most lines earning so little revenue that they can't even pay the electricity bills. The Chinese are obviously a perfect fit with SRT and the leeches in government.
  19. Add together Cambodia, Myanmar and Thailand and you have a very unsavoury bunch who no doubt have common values that benefit those in power while the regular folk get shot, disappeared and economically shafted. Three wise monkeys!
  20. I am so fat there is a danger of bursting into a huge ball of flame and cremating the temple. But by then it's not my problem 555.
  21. Some rather confused people are recommending restaurants along the Chao Phraya, which was in Krungthep last time I boated along it. This is the Chiang Mai forum???? For what it is worth I enjoy the Thai food at Wanlamun near Wat Ket and for western food Nakara Jardin which is only open from lunch time until something like 7pm. Google is your friend. And for nighttime tapas and cocktails with the best rooftop views of the river try the bar on top of the Melia Hotel on T. Charoenprathet
  22. Who cares what the Dems think or do! They are as useful as a fart in a colander.
  23. So having been shafted by PT this guy thinks that MFP should vote for their PM candidate because of shared values. PT will happily drop these values the moment Anutin demands this because PT have no values, no moral compass and no shame. But the voters have values and they will respond harshly at the first opportunity because once again they are being betrayed by power hungry egotistical prostitues masquerading as politicians.
  24. Looks like Tony Woodsome expects he will need a bolt hole before long and is snuggling up to that loathsome dictator. Prostitute Thai Party will not last long and will disintegrate into a much lesser force because many supporters realise they have been conned by the billionaires.
  25. The all consuming PT quest for power will soon start consuming the party as supporters realise they have been betrayed. The old magical hold on millions of voters has been destroyed by the current leadership because they neither represent their constituents nor do they have any moral compass. The days of <deleted>awatra appealing to working class voters have gone and what is left are billionaires hungry for power at all costs.
