    Thanks for the replies.

I agree a tourist visa would be the best way to go, and I have done that in the past at the Thai consulate in Vientiane, but am returning home in 2 weeks so hoping to avoid that if possible this time around. Great to know the consensus thus far is that I should be ok, but naturally anything can happen. I am going to try to ask an officer about this issue on my way out of Thailand to confirm.

I would have proof of the flight home... it may tip the scales in your favour.

  2. OP, comfort would be my concern. Modern bikes should last 10,000+ km without break-downs. And you won't abuse ir by revving it when cold...

Why not take advantage of the bikes for rent?

For the city, I'm considering a Suzuki GH 110 as speed doesn't matter to me.

For the MHS Loop,  try a Honda CB 500 F. I loved it, way more than the X.

  3. At the time of registration, the clerk took a photo. It reminded me of the TOEIC test... Looks like the Thai government is getting serious about scammers and impostors and "friends" taking the medical test.

The cashier was adamant about taking only 50 B. Had to return and pay 300 B more...

The blood drawing was done with a too thin needle, JMHO and by a bloke. Bet the girl would have done a better job...

    °°°

BTW, my school explains that OBEC bans any reimbursement of expenses for such tests, the WP fee ( 3,500 B ?) and the fee at Immigration. Q: is anyone getting any of these expenses  r e i m b u r s e d  at government schools?!???

The WP should be the employers' duty, IMHO.

  4. Have had hundreds of those, they come daily. Never click on attachments!! Forward to report-phisning, Apple has an email address for those ...

OP, I fear that your computer has been affected. What else would be the point? Sending phony invoices? These perps are not that innocent. They want your digital ID. Passwords, credit card details, Google Wallet contents and all.

Change your passwords, stay offline, if you can use some other machine?

OP doesnt mention being married so its her house to do with as she chooses.

Oh ahh - I fear there have been forms the OP signed stating that all assets used in the building have been the wife's or something like it.

There will be someone who appreciated you, I'm sure. Once there is open dislike, it's over, JMHO.

cambodia only ever has low quality foam mattresses,

i broke my back after a single night in the first shithole,

i bought the most expensive spring mattress i could find

for the 2nd shithole, but it was still no quality.

its also a possibility that i broke my back so hard in the first night so nothing can change it back,

i cant even tell if a mattress or chair is good or not, for i never sense comfort

Go see a top chiropractor PDQ, pretty darn quickly!!!

It was in Incheon, korea where I encountered a hotel bed which was much harder than anything I ever encountered before...

    Go get a water bed

  7. Well, the cash was paid on Friday afternoon, after the main KTB had closed its doors. We all had to hand over photocopies of our passports. And then all could see other teachers' salaries ?

The small KTB branch at a supermarket to the rescue: they made the transfer for 1,600 THB and insisted on photocopying the credit cards which I have had to pay off. Still, it was a huge relief!

OBEC has had concerns following an audit. Special permission was needed to get the newstarts paid by cash. But all is well that ends well. (Just don't make us suffer unnecessarily again...)

  8. One cannot get the British embassy to verify one's degree. Apostilles? From some UK law firm in Bangkok? A sworn statement at the cop shop or Tessaban? Logging on would be a piece of cake.

Someone posted a horrific tale of paying hundreds of pounds for this verification. Courier services back and forth... Add to that practical issues like having no one who would go and take my degree to some town hall or government office, take a number, wait, pay and then forward the apostille.

Now I wonder how y'all have been handling the new requirements?!

Thanks all for the encouraging replies. Very helpful. Can’t wait until next year!

    Thanks again,

    Andrew,

you may find that you can get a job with your existing credentials, even in a Gulf state. Months without income... Then good luck getting top Dollars because of that Celta and future Delta!! (Sarcasm off).

Wish you luck - but there has been a race to the bottom, when it comes to cutting costs.
