  1. I had battery problems with 2 mid-priced ONDA tablets. In both instances, after 2 years use, the batteries outgassed and puffed up so much they split the cases. This seems to happen often with cheap batteries. BTW, they were totally inactive at the time, stored on a shelf.

Cheap Chinese tablets rarely get updated and even when they do, the updates can be problematic. Often, manufacturers websites are entirely in Chinese.

I did buy a Chuwi 8" Android tablet ($90) for my gf about 2 years ago. she uses is almost 100% for games and it has held up. Just need to clear junk files periodically.

TECLAST tablets are inexpensive, widely sold and seem to get a lot of good user feedback. Several of their models have both Android and Windows.

If you are "Googling" tablets, you will get a much larger selection if you use "9.7" rather than "10" as that is the more popular metric dimension.

I also have a 9.7 inch Onda Dual Boot tablet and agree with you about the very poor battery. Have had it less tahn a year, but even when it's running with the charger connected, the battery still runs down....

  2. Good post. As always, if a person makes regular images of his HDD he can always dump the image on it and be back where he was the night before. I use Macrium Reflect (free) which has a scheduler and it makes an image of my HDD every night and saves it to an external. This is good also just for regular updates when rarely one screws things up.

    Cheers.

Thanks for this good info. I was using Windows backup (Win 7 Pro 64 bit) but now after testing Macrium Reflect, I now use that as my backup solution.

  3. I have a RS Sunbox with a Ku band set up.

I just visited the CTH registration site welcome.cth.co.th/gep/ to try to register to get a new CTH box. When I entered my Sunbox smart card number I got a screen displaying my subscription history....but my current subscription is not listed and it says I am not entitled to anything. I paid this years subscription at the 7-11, but did not keep the receipt. I can't be bothered to pursue this further and have accepted the fact that I've been rogered. I'm still receiving the premium channels (EPL+ Nat Geo etc) but I understand that will change tomorrow.

  4. Also to note the CTH box will often not work properly if it is sharing a satellite line with a Truevisions box so you will need to disconnect any True boxes or get two lines from the dish - one for CTH one for True.

If you set the default audio to be English - on Stadium 6 you may have to select Thai to get the English audio as no dual language on that channel.

That is also true for Sunbox. I have a Sunbox and True STB sharing the same feed. I have to power off one box to use the other box.

That does not sound good - I currently run 4 PSI and 3 GMMZ box from same antenna without any issues in my home - am sure condos run mix of all types without such issues. .

It's because I'm using a splitter with a single feed for two different types of STBs. If I used a multiple output LNB it would work as normal.

  6. You guys that believe CTH, I have some ocean front property for sale in Phuket! 100,000 THB per 10 meters with a 20 meter depth!

I only have 500,000 meter in frontage, so buy now! The sale expires on 1/4/16! Ohm I forgot to tell you CTH loss the bid for

football for the next 3 years! A better buy would be the ocean front lots in Phuket!

Thanks for this very helpful post. Are you a rocket scientist or brain surgeon by any chance?

  7. Yes the current notice is for PSI and RS subscribers - they are the next to be cut off from CTH channels. It started with actual cable systems, then GMM/z and now the remaining systems. So CTH will have total control and would expect that to result in them making the high bid to carry football again as they do not seem to have much to attract without. But only time will tell.

Lop, which channel is the cut off message being broadcast on?

I don't have access anymore - it was being shown on the GMMZ Nat Geo Wild channel until they went OTA on the morning of the 7th of this month. It said the PSI an RS Sunbox would lose access later this month.

I'm watching Arsenal v Leicester at the minute and haven't seen any messages on Stadium 3. Same last night when I watched Sunderland v Man U

  9. "My understanding is that CTH paid the EPL rights for 3 seasons this being the last season. Why would they then stop on the 1st March?" - I agree, why would CTH's contract for the Premier League end any time in March 2016, surely it must run to include the last round of matches.

What's the link somebody has to a March date? Please post it otherwise surely its just speculation.

they have done nothing but CONfuse people right from the start.

regarding the march the 1st.cut off,it was another message on the bottom of the screen which was running about 2weeks ago,BUT ONLY IN THAI.

it did mention PSI AND THE SUNBOX,so maybe its for all of the ones that get the EPL through this system.

if you have this try and contact RS.SUNBOX SUPPLIERS as they too are not happy about it.i cant post where this information came from.

if anybody is getting the EPL through PSI.AND SUNBOX have you recieved a new box i believe you have to have a KU.dish aswell.

My Sunbox has always been connected to an existing True dish / Ku Band LNB using a signal splitter & works great. I don't think a new STB will be required in my case.

  10. The phone (bought in Thailand) has HSPA+ Tri-band 850/1900/2100 MHz so it is compatible with Dtac 3G. I can't find any setting to enable/disable 3G and since the second sim card is connected to AIS 3G network, I can only assume that it is enabled by default.

Only one SIM-card can connect to 3G at a time. So if you've got another card that IS connected to 3G, the DTAC card is only connected to 2G.

Put it into another phone, or change the settings so the DTAC card gets the 3G. On some phones you have to physically switch the cards, but on most recent phones you can switch them on the fly just by settings.

Yes, after re-checking settings I discovered that only one sim can connect to 3G, so I took the AIS card out and the Dtac sim connects to a 3G network. Thanks for your assistance

  11. Phones have different bands in different parts of the world, so just because you have a 3G phone doesn't necessarily mean you can connect to it here.

So until you've verified both that your phone has the required band, AND that 3G is enabled in settings, we don't know the full story.

    Standard trouble shooting work flow.

  12. I think 2G/3G/4G is determined by the phone and not the sim card. I think the sim card is just used to identify you from everyone else. But I am no expert, so I will be interested to see what others say.

    Thanks for your reply.

The phone is a 3G dual sim, and I have a second sim card installed which is AIS 3G

  13. Attached is a scan of a Dtac sim card. I am trying to ascertain if it is 2G or 3G. I bought it in August 2009 so I assumed it was 2G. I went to a Dtac service centre and asked them to issue me with a 3G card with the same number. The assistant told me it was already 3G, even though the network type shows as EDGE:2 on the phone.. I am not knowledgeable enough in Telecomms to discuss / argue further, so I left it at that. I would appreciate it if any knowledgeable person can clarify for me? Thanks in advance.
