Immigration will not be verifying my degree. They want proof that the degree is real so I have to go the the US Embassy and the Embassy will, apparently, attest to its authenticity. For a fee of course. My employer has just warned me that Sri Racha Immigration is now requiring this verification befor they will renew a work visa/extention.

The Filipino's have this figured out. 900 Baht last year and the Philippine embassy in Bangkok verifies your degree from a Philippine University. In the Pattaya office, foreigners from native English speaking countries are exempt from the requirement. I've also personally witnessed an Eastern European(Ukraine or one of those other Russian breakaways) teacher avoid the certification/verification request with a simple "it's not possible". As Scott said, it's more about the mood of the officer than a legal requirement. You can't set the mood, it's set by outside things such as how the spouse of the officer is treating him/her or hunger etc.. God Bless you and OO.

The only way that I know of, and I have done it, is to get originals issued by your university.. have them notarized by a Notary public attesting to the legitimacy of the university registrars signature.. have that paper certified by the Secretary of State where the Notary derives their authority.. send all that to the US DoS Authentifications office on D.C. ... once you have that, then you can send it to the Thai embassy or CG who will "Legalize" it by their stamp.

All this for a job paying less than $1000.usd a month? The Thai authorities are simply out of control with this hatred of white foreigners with a native English tongue. At least if you are black you won't have to go through all this stuff as blanket discrimination will cull you out. God Bless You and OO.

I had a small irritated area on my forehead that I went to the Dr about. He prescribed some cream, which did nothing. He then referred me to the skin Dr and she prescribed a different cream which did nothing. She then referred me to another Dr but i refused as it was costing a lot of money for nothing.

My solution, which worked, was to scrape the skin back till it bled. When it grew back problem solved.

Unfortunately that solution doesn't work for STD's. Cheers mate and God Bless You. OO.

LOL> I do concur with the other poster as the other poster was me.

I have bought steak and chicken at the Klang branch and had it cooked many times. It has been awhile since I last did it - back then it was 50 baht. A lot of Cheap Charlies do this. They are the ones I learned it from.

All I do these days is grab a big salad from the salad bar and eat it with a meal I order and maybe a V8 juice and a dessert yogurt. I usually ask them for a big bowl to eat it in LOL.

You can buy anything you like from the supermarket to consume in the restaurant. That's where all the food you eat in the restaurant comes from in the first place.

Interesting. I had never noticed that but it's not a place I regularly eat at. The business model of inventory being right there is often successful even in the "west".

Another odd thing...since we're here..I was in Foodland(Klang) this afternoon. A Thai female, middle age, had 1200. Baht in groceries. She presented a VISA Credit Card. It was accepted, processed, and the ticket signed. No ID checked or signature matched/looked at. I've seen this at Big C as well. Surprising Thailand hasn't been hit with the credit card fraud with such a lackadaisical process. I wonder who absorbs these losses. When I last used my CC in the "west" I also had to present an ID, which of course makes perfect sense. God Bless You and OO.

Maybe donate them too the Father Ray Foundation ....at least then they have a chance of going to a worthwhile cause....  dropping then off at a bar there's a good chance you will only be lining the bar owners pockets ....Just a thought.

The "bar owner" isn't a worthwhile cause? Shame on you mate. He's just trying to make a go of life in the prostitution, drug, and booze business. God Bless You and the member who wants to do the right thing and help those who actually deserve our help. OO.

Thats some fundamentally flawed logic... You are comparing 'being breathalyzed while out on public roads' to 'invasion of privacy'...

.... Has anyone been wrongly accused? Has anyone had nothing to drink and been charged after being breathalysed in Thailand?

It seems to me that a lot of the guys who are against being breathalysed, who are commenting so negatively about the Foreign volunteer Tourist police (i.e. those who help translate because you haven't learnt Thai before you drink and drive) are the very people who should be tested...

.... are there really that many of you in Pattaya who drink and ride / drive ?

Good morning. I think you are missing the point. Here it is.....Assume everyone is drunk when they drive here in Pattaya. Assume the police and their helpers are in it for the money, not protecting you from harm.(in the case of the farang's participating, it it for gusto and manly-hood enhancement) Make your decision about driving yourself with that assumption. If you feel unsafe or unable to deal with it, don't drive. You can hire a properly licensed insured moto taxi or "uber" car or taxi or you can just stay in, call food delivery or call girl/boy. Cheers mate, God Bless You and OO.

The biopsy was negative, no infection, so that was good news.    She (Dr. Anna) prescribed Fucicort Cream, twice a day.       It's working and the rash is almost gone.

Thanks for the follow up. For informational purposes only, please advise the associated costs for this treatment and cream. Thanks and God Bless You. OO.

I'm sure that it will be packed, just like the other store, when word spreads. I'd estimate the seating capacity at 4 x Klang.

Do you concur with the other poster, that you can buy your food inside the store and have it prepared and served to you at the counter?(Foodland, Pattaya Klang location). I've never seen this done. I have no idea how to even ask about it without coming off as some kind of cheap charlie idiot. Thanks and God Bless You. OO.

Total nonsense...lots of people on motorbike who don't need valet parking....location, location, location.....

Repeating..since some don't make the link.....A grocery store can not survive financially on motorbike patrons treating it like a 7/11,Family. You might have noticed, Tesco and Big C have entered the marketplace around town. This "location" is not well suited for a glorified 7/11 because of the access issues and more importantly, the overhead expenses associated with it. It's an experiment is all and it will fail. Mark my words here. Fail financially. And, FYI, the police sell the street around there so your proclamation that motorbike folks can cater it is a bit out of the logical sphere of common sense. Cheers mate and God Bless You. OO.

Isn't this right outside the Lion Pub?

Around the corner towards Theprasit, in front of the brothel. They are clever, seeing a blind spot. Must be the farang "volunteer" helpers. I wish shotguns were allowed. God Bless you and OO.

Why u want to know exactly?if u not drunk u have nothing to fear?.

You are in a third world country. You are much better off avoiding all interaction with law enforcement. It's about the money. Being wrongly accused of a crime is certainly possible here and nothing is worse. It's sort of like all these guys lecturing us about HIV. We are better off just assuming all the prostitutes are HIV positive and making our life decisions. With the police however, you can't assume anything. Then add these wannabee farangs in uniform at these checkpoints and you have a real nightmare possible. It isn't a fair fight. God Bless You and OO.

Where is SOI 17 and darling massage ?

I think it's known as Soi 17. The cross road/Soi from 3rd road, over to Theprasit Road. It winds a little there at the market and Liberty Mansion. Darling was just past the S right, then left,...I think it's still open. Straight forward brothel, don't be fooled. Cheers and God Bless You. (just down from Punch and Judy)

No reason drive around drunk anymore. Uber providing an excellent service (never been asked for tips) and most trips end up being 5 Baht because of the 70 Baht discount for your first 10 rides. Seems Grab also lowered the mafia fares so apart from bodily injuries when driving drunk, why would you risk a 50,000 Baht fine (up from 20,000) just to save 1-2 dollars?

Sometimes you don't want anyone to see the person you have on the back of your bike. It used to be these checkpoints weren't set up until late at night. If they have in fact become an early evening event many of us happy hour drinkers want to know. Thanks and God Bless You. OO.

Any chance you could elaborate on exactly where the checkpoint was?

Yes, this would help along with the time. There was one set up on Soi 17 at the corner near Liberty Mansion and that brothel "Darling" something. I managed to do a slow U-turn and avoid it the other night. This was very early, so I thought, about 8pm. God Bless you and OO.

Parking on Second Road? Opposite the back end of RGP?... LOL.

The parking issue will cause the venue to be short lived. It will close by the end of 2018 if not before. You can't compete with 7/11 and Family Mart in that location. Nice try of course, it's only money.  God Bless You and OO.

Staff are exceptionally nice there--so far. Got some nice smiles. Must come from outside Pattaya, not yet accustomed to dealing w/ the idiot farangs.

Would be nice to build a big salad in the salad bar then go eat it over at a table at the new Took Lae Dee. Guess that's understandably not permitted.

FYI, you can do that at Big C Extra on Pattaya Klang. Used to even have free water but suggest simply buy a bottle of same upstairs with your salad or at the food court itself. Silverware provided, just borrow a plate/bowl from one of the vendors(don't ask, just take it). Cheers and God Bless You. OO.

What did you find so un-attractive about the general area?

I'm not Craig, but suffice to say if you are in those areas on a "budget" you are in with illegal Mexicans(crossed the river, in the USA illegally) and "blacks"(think welfare is a right). Nothing is safe and gangs rule the streets. Of course if you have money most places are very nice in the USA. God Bless You and OO.

    I don't think this was a "soapie".

No, it wasn't. I was making the point that real "soapies" are well connected and any farang going in same undercover and thinking he's going to survive such a thing is not only a loso loser wannabee cop but a real scumbag himself. Picking on such small fish is obviously for the news media and not a real effort to rid our community of this disgusting aspect. God Bless You mate and OO.

  19. The mention of "soapy massage"s was made. For those unaware, these outfits know exactly who to pay and how much. It's even rumored to be "Chinese mafia". You had best not "raid" them in Pattaya and any loso low life farang police volunteer is putting his own life in danger participating in such a ruse. In that case however an exception might be in order as a lesson to other "volunteers" from England. God Bless You and OO.

does anyone know where there is a  Recyclable  place  in pattaya that buys .i have a lorry load of Plastic bottle

Please mate, just let the Thai people deal with this. I'm sure any moto taxi driver can arrange for their own lorry to come around the collect your bottles. Infringement on this is tantamount to farang attempts to infringe on prostitution and pimping. Let it go mate, let the Thai people handle this and enjoy your money and stay in the Kingdom. God Bless You and OO.

    Hi Guys,

Does anyone have official input on transferring work permits and  days to leave after cancelling a WP.

I will leave Thailand mid June and hope to transfer to another school. How easy is this? How long does it take? Also if you decide not to transfer and leave, once the WP have been cancelled how long until you have to leave on your extended visa. I heard 2 days, but read above 7 days.

I have to disagree with one point above, the WP is not yours. It belongs to the work and must be kept at the place of work, not with you.

Any info will be much appreciated.

    Jamie

It's not all that clear what you are asking...but suffice to say I am sure about one thing...if you are on an extended VISA based upon specific work, and you cancel that work permit, you have to leave the same day or of course switch the VISA to another type. There may be grace but not legally. The seven days applies to requesting an extension, which should be granted but voids the VISA. This means you have to start all over again. The myth about whose property the actual Work Permit is has been bantered for a decade or more. You are always better off holding it yourself and not believing those who say your workplace needs to hold it etc.. God Bless You and good luck. OO.

Of course if you are living in Thailand, you have to obey Thai law and will face legal penalties if you do not.

I'm not clear about which "legal penalties" one would face for refusing to provide a blood sample for a Thai court to establish/rule out a parental status. I'll leave that to the courts however. I'm almost sure a foreigner could leave the country as such a charge by a woman would not IMHO trigger an arrest or flagging of his passport. God Bless You and OO.
