  1. admins....

don't you consider the word used to identify the emoticon and appeared between two similar emoticons posted by nakachalet offensive at all?

this is the first time the inappropriate and offensive description showed up as letters and word....

can you guys do something about this pls?

Offensive? It's just the same as:

    :bah: farang :bah:

    Simon

    hi simon43

you made me laugh.... ha ha ha

the nicknames given to europeans, americans, australians etc such as FARANG (thai), GUI-LOW (hongkong), RED-HAIR (china).... are more or less meant to be complimentary rather than derogatory.....

however other nicknames attributed to japanese, vietnamese, chinese and africans are downright derogatory and offensive....

simon.... those nicknames are surely not the same as farang in any stretch of our imagination....

just ask a few of the returning vietnam veterans.... <_<

  2. do u have 800,000+ thb in the bank saving with verifiable history?

it will increase your odds considerably, much more than 5% ....

perhaps, your visa consultation person could help you discover other more worthy objectives to visit the almighty u.s. of a.

good luck and pls keep us posted.... there are numerous others who would like to follow your footstep to see disney land (california) and disney world (florida)....

a dream of a life time for million of kids.... :D

  3. Well I started a thread about trading Thai Stocks, I have to say not much interest. Abrak, was very helpful to me. ( showed me a simple way to chart a stock) Not in telling what to buy....90 days into this I'm just learning the language....

I believe you are voicing what many posters may feel. There is too much BS on this thread. I believe the exchange of ideas about trading can be useful from beginners to experts.

    Parvis i missed your post.

....What is it in that chart that you dont understand Parvis? yellow triangle confirms start of an up trend and green triangle confirms it , bollingers are squeezed with the s/p forcing top bollinger up but still within. stochastic and mac d both turning up.... Whats your problem Parvis? Whats wrong with posting a basic chart

This is what I'd say is wrong with the chart, for my use anyway. Your off chart studies take up more screen space than does the price chart.... Better IMO to use dissimilar inputs which if all give a buy signal, it proves more reliable. I can't get my screen capture gizmo to show my whole setup but I'll show you what I mean using some of the charts on my screen Very ST buy signal at 1515 yesterday using three different methodologies.

an interesting combination of charts using different time frames.... to arrive at.... and to confirm.... a decision.

the one minute time frame is reputedly used exclusively by scalpers and daytraders and the likes....

were you per chance scalping or daytrading at that moment in time too?

the signal provider of your charts is one of the more expensive firms in the market. it costs around 120 usd (?) for REAL TIME monthly basic service just for signal services alone; as i recall.

most free quote service providers use DELAYED SIGNAL, which could be some 20 minutes delayed which means the quoted price posted on screen is in reality come and gone some 20 minutes ago....

some thirty years ago, Financial News Network (anyone remembers sue, bollinger and ron--the analysts?) provided free quotes (20 min delay) running at the bottom of its screen. many traders then.... used those running numbers to formulate their trades.... at the time only brokerage firms could afford to have a quote line.... we were asked to pay some 5,000 usd to just LEASE the ugly square box for a month.... :(

hunt brothers were alive and well.... silver was around 4 usd and went it was cornered peaking around 9 usd/oz by the hunt brothers, jealous brokers and brokerage houses were becoming unglued... federal investigation and grand jury were summoned....:o i still remembered buying gold eagle pieces at around 35.25 usd/oz and i was then paid 0.65 usd/per hour doing roofing under hot michigan summer sun....

well.... it did help finance my higher education.... most worked the whole summer vacation so they could save enough to go to school in the fall, winter and spring semesters.... those were the happiest days.... and a burger was only 25 cents then....

to bring everything up to date, sue (my idol :)) is now with cnbc.... and bollinger is now a master of his own ship.... many of us including ZORRO1 are using his creation--the upper bollinger band to start selling the market and unloading the longs.... B) for some reasons, i do not come across ron often nowadays.... he could have branched out and owned his own company as well....

thx much everyone for putting up with my nostalgic ranting....

  4. we are now on page 112.... and there will be plenty more to come....

there are many talented traders here as you can see the number of pages generated by rather very interesting discussion and dissuasion between and among avid traders....

some trade simulated mode, some trade for real money, some trade one contract, and a few special other trade contracts in multiple of ten or more.... at one time....

many traders, both short and longer terms traders, like to discuss their positions and rationals behind their trades which are immensely informative for other less-opportunity and/or less skillful traders....

to read, formulate and incorporate those ideas and trading techniques into their own trading systems, if they so wish....

but alah.... there are also a small distinctive group of traders who would like to challenge those already traded positions and trading ideas and techniques.... well, this is all well and democratic of course.....

but what i wonder most every time that i visit these pages is.... why are we spending so much time arguing, challenging, persuading, dissuading et cetera.... won't it be much more beneficial for every trader to learn from one another....?

there are plenty of opportunities for everyone to make some money in the markets.... and there is always a better trade down the road.... if we survive the trade makers and the specialists' brilliancy in taking every dollar and penny from everyone of us.... if we ever become overconfident....

come on trader friends.... let's spend our time here more constructively with encouraging words and sympathetic ears when needed.... that imho is how a community of traders like us can outgrow ourselves and become even more profitable.... geeweez..... who do i think i am.... ?.....:annoyed:

have another profitable trading session, everyone.....:jap:

  5. The BOI says Thailands in great shape and getting better except for some street fires recently.

Is anyone trading Thai stocks or am I in the wrong forum.

I bought into ASX KCN Kingsgate (Thailand gold mine) recently and they have a Thai sub that may do well when they have their IPO

I had a lot of KCN at $2.50..sold out way to early but 30%-40% gains to good to walk away from. Nobody talks stock much here. Super traders always win without disclosure. I did talk about and posted my holdings and what I paid for them, there halfway in the thread somewhere. No one else did though

    zorro1

    with all due respect....

what you said is just not true.... this attached summary has also been posted a week or so ago..... for the month of june 2010.... :P

and i again agree with you wholeheartedly that more traders, if and when they have some unengaged time.... should post some of their trades....

and i believe only a handful would be willing to post their month end summary.... for one reason or another.... :D

it is just humanly virtually impossible to have winning trades every session.... imho....

just do not let your irrational emotion overrides your trading plans.... cheers everyone.... :jap:

your ref page is nonexsiting.... as was reported at 100708 thurs at 18:50....

    perhaps, it is a typo....

Time to talk about the markets again since we have "blood on the streets"

Who is ready for the plunge? As of Friday we have completed the 2nd biggest rally in U.S stock history. My position has been strong buy since November 2008 and have a very substantial holding

Here are a few charts on gold, silver, etc and more importantly where the DOW is heading. The charts arnt mine but this guy knows his stuff :)

  7. Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva on Tuesday presided over the inauguration of the center at the Department of Business Development (DBD), Ministry of Commerce. The primary objective of the project is to develop a networking system that connects alliance agencies including the DBD, the Revenue Department, and the Social Security Office.

The network will allow the state agencies to share relevant information necessary for starting a business such as registration, tax ID and business accounts for employers. People who wish to establish a juristic body or a proprietorship can proceed with the registration process all at once by filling a single form.

i drink to that sir.... :jap:

  8. Havent read through all the stuff on this thread and can only say from my point of view that it still is cheap to live here.

Depends of course where you want to live, what you want to do, drink and eat.

If You want a flash house or condo in one of the tourist places and want to drink and party and eat at big restaurents it will cost you.

In my situation I only pay 2% tax on investment income and nothing on pension, see http://www.thaivisa....nts-and-others/

I live in a nice 2 bedroom house in a small town, rent 4000b per month. I dont have or need a car, eat mostly Thai food which I like and rarely pay more than 35b for a good feed, lunch today green curry at the local supermarket 15b.

Give the Mrs 15,000b a month, out of that she pays the rent, power and water and other expenses like food. I use perhaps another 5,000b a month.

Went on a visa run to Lao last week, took 5000b and came back with just 15000b,free visa great stuff. Plan a trip to Kanchanburi later this month or early next then in Sept a visa run to Mae Sai where I havent been before.

Got a small vege garden and take the sister-in-laws young fella fishing in the river on weekends, lifes good and dont want to be anywhere else.

    robby nz....

u r surely a cheap cheap fella.... donating only 15,000 thb a month for her to pay all the bills....

and what do you think is left for her personal expenditure, like buying birth control pills etc....

    u r cheap dude.... :lol::DB)

have a heart dude.... she is not your personal slave or maid.... is she....? :jap:

  10. the lady in yellow who was being interviewed on camera said the....

farang is NOT stressed out... when asked if the man is under any stress?

peace corp.... just does not commit suicide.... i still remembered a wonderful peace corp couple by the name of Gold....

imho.... the police was just too hasty to issue such rush statement to quiet the neighborhood and those suspecting of other causes of death involving FARANG SUICIDE....

i just can't bring myself to believe that farangs in thailand are so suicide prone.... :annoyed:

george.... i do not know you.... but i grieve for you and those close to you.... may you rest in peace.... wish i could do something to expand and research more into these farang suicide incidents....:(

  11. buckeye911.... are you a true blood buckeye graduate?

there have been abundant postings in reference to thai citizen and dual citizenship ....

relax buckeye, your spouse will have no problem whatever at all in thailand to own thai real properties and otherwise.... and whatever else you wish to purchase for her and own....

there are many returning affluent thais who both own land and properties in other more liberated countries and also in thailand....

in general these folks are rather quiet.... like < มีดคมในฝัก > sword hiding its sharp edge, not bragging about it.... and there are many many of such individuals in our circle of friends.... :)

when your wife does hold an u.s. passport, she would be joining this less than <1% of affluent thai population.... having the privilege of owning real properties in more than one country.... :D

i am certain by then she would also become even smarter pertaining to thai and farang stuff .... :jap:

just ascertain that her permanent residency does not expire.... and apply for her naturalization status just as soon as the laws permit.... alright?

but how does your post--I would hope that we can return to the states often enough to maintain her green card status but I realize at some point that would become quite a burden.

just why would returning to the states occasionally to satisfy the immigration requirements becomes quite a burden....? don't quite understand that part though.... :(

Good point, Pib. We need to maintain a residence in the states so my wife does not lose her permanent resident status. If I should die before her, she would not be able to collect my social security benefits if she is no longer a permanent resident. I will obviously research further but I am also assuming that I will have to pay Virginia state tax because I will be receiving a state government pension from Virginia.

I don't believe that receiving a state pension from VA establishes residence for tax purposes in VA. There was Supreme Court case a few years ago where CA had tried that and they lost. However, VA is probably the most aggressive state on collecting income tax from expats. They take the view that you remain a VA resident until such time as you establish legal residence in another STATE, not country. That said, you should get a lawyer and find a solution. It would be tragic to pay income tax to VA for decades after you have left.

Your strategy for your wife is not a good one, although your motivation is. She should get her US citizenship. Then she can inherit your SS benefits and any IRAs you have without a problem. She is not entitled to keep her green card after living abroad after a year. Since BCIS and the VA state govt have different standards for different purposes it seems to be possible to run afoul of both govt levels. BCIS may decide she is committing fraud, for example.

We are moving from NY to Thailand next year and will not be paying state and city income tax, which totals at a rate > 10%. My Thai wife is a US citizen. NY state is not a problem like VA.

Thanks for your comments, CaptHaddock. I would hope that we can return to the states often enough to maintain her green card status but I realize at some point that would become quite a burden. My fear is that if she becomes a US citizen she will no longer be able to own real property in Thailand. Currently she owns a house and another parcel of land, we own another parcel of land jointly. I have attempted to research this a little but have not been able to find anything definitive as to whether Thailand permits dual citizenship. Some say yes and some say no, I guess I should consult an attorney the next time we are in Thailand.

  12. Just be sure to set some stops before the markets crash through the floor later this year! :) Long term could also equal a really long loss..

Ok genius, dont try teach people to suck eggs.

Investors in the SET know in the long term, when things have at least halved over a 16 year period, the future looks bright. That future maybe itself, be long term, but the chances are pretty good.

The stock markets are nothing but a rigged casino. How do you know the SET won't fall another 50% from here? You don't and hence that is gambling.

"Keep you money in the bank and keep your money, invest your money and invest in a lottery ticket"

    ok, khunjake....

what do you suggest that we do.... now that buying and selling during the month of june, was the only thing some of us know....?

    any suggestion for us, kuhnjake....?

you have really made a very bold statement among the many thaivisa avid traders.... saying so boldly that stock markets are nothing but a rigged casino....?

    is it really....? B)

the attachment surely disagreed with you....! kuhnjake, it takes time, patience, knowledge and experience to survive in the trading world....

moreover, those who are making it, won't talk about it.... for fear that their little trading methodologies might be duplicated.... thus creating unnecessary rivalries.... :jap: :jap: :jap:

your statement is only true.... when a person enters the trading biz without sufficient personal study, preparation, coaching and practising.... sorry to have to disagree with your comments.... :ermm:

  13. thanks --------------my docs for car are ok but the temp import stuff is not and car does not show on thai computer------------their fault last time so i just want to go out and spend a couple of days visiting friends in kl then back into thailand and get the stamp / computer entry right so do you think they check docs / stamp when you go out---------i suspect they dont but would appreciate any experiences you have re. going out of thailand in car

    thanks

we drove to s'pore several times a year.

they do check name, registration, insurance, guarantor in needed, et al

if you know there is something improper, even though they do not detect it.... watch out on your way back.... they could detect it....

    then what....?

it is still our responsibility to see thru it that everything is in order, cause it is our vehicle.... it would be mute to argue with people at the border.... they live there and we don't....

going to kl or s'pore is very easy from the border. you have several choices. if your vehicle is not a concern and you do not want to hassle....

take a plane, a bus, a van or a train from hatyai to kl or the like....

train ride from hatyai to malaysia is alot more comfortable and the cars are alot cleaner than the ones running within the kingdom....

when i was younger i used all those traveling means to go to college in spore.... it was fun then.... and it is still fun now.... cheers

you guys ought to improve your posting in reference to the southern cities in thailand

particularly, when posting terrifying info as above

perhaps, all admin posting such related items should just name those cities involved.... rather than saying in the south....

we live in the south.... trung and hadyai and others in between.... for over 40 yrs now....

PLS DO BE SPECIFIC NAMING SPECIFIC CITIES, so other farangs would not be too terrified to visit us.... dwellers in purt-ta-lung, trung, hatyai, sar-daow and numerous other SOUTHERN peaceful cities...

thx much for all your considerations....:jap: IT IS NOT ASKING TOO MUCH, IS IT?

UP TO AND UNTIL chuan's premiership.... southern part of thailand has been ever peaceful ....

it is when tucksin became thailand's premier and began his extension of power to the muslim population UNFAIRLY AND UNJUSTLY AND UNCONSTITUTIONALLY that certain selected groups of muslim became very angry, unruly.... and explosively.... we won't know the shame, humility and pains suffered by so many of our muslim brothers and sisters in the south....

i am not condoning the violence, but just thought that some brief historical facts might help many to better understand the situations in the part-ta-nee, ya-la, nar-ra-thi-wart et al areas.... most of them have been totally ignored and worse yet badly and shamefully treated by the authorities....

i can also assure everyone that these muslim population are not seeking annexation either.... :jap: :jap: :jap:

life with dignity.... is really not too much to ask either.... is it?

  16. at the sa-daow, darn-nork immigration

you'll need to have all your doc ready

you can purchase thai and or malay auto insurance at the border

the insurance for 30 days is around 1,500 thb

there are many farangs driving back and forth through that border checkpoint daily

you won't be alone for sure

    cheers

  17. tjansen

i hope for you it is as easy as you describe it.... :)

normally, to collect one's own pension would be more involving....

some are required to answer tons of question, such as mother's maiden name, place of birth et cetera

wish you the best and smoothest sailing toward your utopia.... :jap:

I decided to go to the Embassy to get it done. I made an appointment online the day before and went on Monday. I had four signatures, all within the same document, relating to my company pension. They charged $30 for the first one, and $20 for each additional, even though I told them that I had heard they could all be done for a lump sum of $30. When I found out the bill was going to be $90, I had to go sit down and talk to myself a little bit. Then I went to the window, paid the money, got the notary stamps and was on my way. As an exercise, I am considering keeping the notarized signatures and going to my bank to have them 'notarize' the signatures and see if it works. I will probably have another little talk and just send in the notarized paperwork and start collecting the pension.

    Thanks again for the help.

  18. this is surely an unexpected welcome news for thailand.

how do we read up on the primary source pls....?

Why not do more of this?

ADB Loan for Solar Plant to Support Thailand's Renewable Energy Target

MANILA, PHILIPPINES - The Asian Development Bank's (ADB) Board of Directors has approved investment in a 73-megawatt solar power plant in central Thailand. The plant, likely to be one of the largest solar photovoltaic projects in the world, will be central to Thailand's efforts to generate much more of its energy from domestic, renewable sources.
