  1. It really depends on the brides background. Upper middle class and upper class Thais do not normally expect the groom to provide a dowry. So I think it's a quite a reasonable custom.vv:
  2. Just obtained a bottle of supposedly the real stuff at A really high price. I tried it as directed for sleep and relaxation and it had absolutely no effect on me at all. Are tourists really coming just to try it out
  3. Y you should always have a personal accident insurance. It doesn't cost much. For instance if you hit someone with a golf ball and many other things
  4. If you have Thai.friendsn you won't have these problems. I always have a few thai friends along when I go to immigration Thais make very loyal friends. Your wife should have complained.
  5. Then after a week I received a no reply emailr say that my claim was rejecteg. 10. I don't know much about them I don't know anyone who has one. I have been in Thailand for 35 years and I can't think of a single instant it would be of any use except to get a pink ID.
  11. So infections of the virus were 25 times higher in the UK than in Thailand. yesterday. I don't notice many posts about this. Thailand is being bashed all the time no one seems to bash the uk. It's leader also lost a safe seat for the first time in 200 years. Thailand seems to be catching up on the vaccination too. I I have no love for the government or hypocrisy for that matter
  12. How can I get a booster injection when I'm bedridden. I am 90 years old and suffer from five serious lung diseases. I had my two first injections quite long ago before I was bedridden. The embassy ought to to be able to help me. I cannot use a mobile phone because I am very deaf I can only use email
  13. Thaibashing and ignorance at its worst. It is a p perfectly correct report. Thailand has been known for years as one of the leading countries in dealing with tropical diseases and pandemics. If you like bashing a a country why not the UK. It has 15 times the amount of daily infections compared to Thailand. It is flip-flopped with a lot of confusing regulations and it has the highest death rate per capita in the world from the virus. The late rollout of vaccines was nothing to do with Thailand's health services. It was the present government who caused this and we all know why
  14. I don't think this is true at all. I have never had to wait more than usually 30 minutes on average the past 20 years to renew my retirement Visa. I always make sure that I have all the documents and even duplicates. I dress decently I've never seen an agent or an elite visa holder jump the queue. Another thing I do is to choose a day and time when usually immigration is not so busy. Another thing to note is that the rules have not changed in the last 20 years it still 800 K in the bank which is a lot less today than it was 20 years ago in terms of value. The amount in the bank was increased from 400 K to 800 K about 20 years ago but those lucky retirees who were on 400 K still only need to have that amount in the bank.
  15. You need to have good Thai friends. My son overstayed his visa while visiting us in Thailand. My friend took him to the immigration office no fine no ban and a three month extension bt1900 no bribes too.
  16. I can't understand anyone buying an Elite visa. If you do not qualify for a marriage or retirement extension. You can use an agent to extend your stay here almost indefinitely for a tiny fraction of the cost of an elite visa.
  17. Hiso in Thailand means a person who pretends to be upper-class when they are obviously not. People who are newly -rich often behave like this. It is a huge insult to anyone. I guess that you do not realise this and don't know the meaning of the word . But I'm sure people with Elite visas would be highly offended.
  18. I worked in Bangkok in the early 60s and retired to Thailand 35 years ago. The reason I love Thailand is the people. They have been so good and kind and real devoted friends. When I first came here the expats behaved quite differently than most of them now. They mixed freely with the Thais, ate mainly Thai food and it was a requirements that we learn to speak Thai. We had to dress decently too. Nobody called us Farangs. We were known by our nationality like khon angritm Khon American ect. The many Thai friends that I made in Thailand always help me so really I have never had a problem here. After I0 years retired here , we left with our two children and went to another country hoping to get a better education for our children. It wasn't long before we missed Thailand so much and realise it was the best country to live in. And returned and been here the last 22 years. It's not about the cost of living here . It is the Thai people. I am nearly 91 and my Thai wife is in poor health we are looked after by Isaan couple with such loving care that we could never find elsewhere.
  19. You must keep the receipt and if it doesn't arrive within the allowed period. wait another couple of weeks then You simply take the receipt to the immigration with your passport. They will give you another 90 days and in my case they apologised. If you have the receipt it will show Thai immigration as a recipient you have nothing to worry about
  20. Yes I wrote that letter. I'm talking about 1963 when I went there every weekend. I bought the hotel in 1975 by then it had already changed a lot.
  21. would you call typically British when they have nearly 10 times the number of infections?
