So, parks are closed again?  Doi Suthep is closed off?  OMG, that's so sad to hear!

I loved living in Chiang Mai until Covid hit.  I am an avid cyclist and Chiang Mai was like the ultimate playground with like minded people from all around the world sharing the experience of just being here in the Magic Kingdom riding our bikes.

Once the pandemic hit, as you say, it turned into a "ghost town".  That special allure of riding in a beautiful and mysterious setting that is unique to the Kingdom just lost its luster totally, and the only salvation was lone rides up Doi Suthep just for the exercise.

I hope Chiang Mai can recover that "magic" it had at some point in the future, but I really wonder if that can ever really happen or if it will just be a shadow of its' former self.  Really so depressing to think about!

Down here in Pattaya (Jomtien), it's pretty much the same.  Songkran was hardly noticeable here this year just the same as it was last year.  The beaches, while a lot cleaner than they've ever been before, are just sort of depressing without the international mix of people normally here.  Local merchants are challenged to say the least, and there is no longer that "land of happy smiles" feel here.  It's been replaced with the look of people just struggling to survive.

Just hoping we see light at the end of the tunnel SOON!

thanks for the info on Jomtien

Noticed you are from Chiang Mai (my former home).  Just curious to get a first hand account of how things are right now with respect to recent Covid restrictions since I've been hearing a lot of questionable talk that sounds like things are pretty depressing there right now (so sorry if that's true).

So, how's life there at the moment with regard to quarenteens for those visiting from other provinces, and just daily life in general?

Hi WaveHunter, the city is very very quiet as you can imagine, the very limited domestic tourism has essentially gone and I know a number of businesses  that are on the brink.

Along with others I have put my trans provincial travel plans on hold.

Shopping and the like not too bad but some markets closed. Songkran, which should have been a lifeline, just didn't happen at all.

Finding places to escape like national parks is also a no no so overall, it is pretty much ghost town and for some , rather depressing.

Which ethnic groups are these?  Where do you find this data?

Whilst quite a simplification (I concede) I am trying to point out that there doesn't seem to be any one particular ethnic group being reported as most effected.

Data? Only the total figures, I would love more data (as I guess you may) but it is ever so hard to find, if you have good data please would you be good enough to let me know where I too could get it, I would really appreciate that.

My post was my observations PGSan, would appreciate any info.

    Thai-manufactured Worcestershire sauce

Not with my taste buds but for info I think formula 1 is closer, Lea & Perrins has vanished around Chiang Mai just now.

Don't know where you are but Rimping here has no problem colmans mustard, they do do online but I don't know if they ship to wherever you are.

By the way, anyone think colmans english mustard is no where near as hot as it used to be or have my senses dulled with age???

And the reality is that it is more likely the blood clots are due to other causes than the vaccine, also blood clots have been reported for most of the other vaccines as well - There just seems to be a concerted effort to criticise the AstraZeneca vaccine - maybe because as a cheap. not for profit vaccine it was likely to eat into the profits of the other pharmaceutical companies.

I think you have quite a good point, the AZ vaccine is a non profit offering during the pandemic, the big boys (USA based) really don't like that is a point I and many others would go along with.

agree, where do they get it from, if the photo is supposed to be that of the day there is no way the figures are in line.

    Great!

Everything is better than the highly suspicious Astra vaccine. Partial tests, painful side effects and now suspected to be lethal in some cases.

Trolling ?  yes, a little, but faced with some arrogance I will abuse it for a few more years.

Don''t agree with you on this, I see no real evidence that the astra z vaccine is not a great contribution to reopening society.

All I want is an effective vaccine and by effective I mean one that would prevent any infection causing acute medical conditions to administered and allow international border opening with life returning to normal.

  8. Internet here seems not to be hindered with the problem of old copper infrastructure and I have had 2 direct fibre to home for my home and my wifes small business, a couple of holiday chalets.

Currently I use True as they offered a deal at about £40 per month with 1000 / 100 speeds. OK the down is usually around 700 but I can live with that.

This service also provides my 4K TV plus we have decent WiFi all over the property.

3BB who I have also used for fibre have competitive packages especially if you don't want TV.

Both companies are reliable and it is very very rart I have service problems, also with my True I get a 5 gig data allowance and sim card for my phone bundled in, wit hthat ans the large number of  WiFi enabled cafes etc here I never use all my data.

Occasionally I do wonder if the Thai government are restricting the internet but that is more of a suspicion than something I actually know happens.

    Hope this helps.

Letting people with money buy the vaccine privately is win win. Takes some load and cost from the public system.

i guess they will wait till late 2021 to avoid accusations of letting the elite jump the q.

I hope we can buy J and J - effective and single shot only

I never expected to be able to get vaccinated in anything like a reasonable timeframe (?) without paying for the privilege. The problem is the lack of approval, I think so far only the sinovac and the Astra are approved and whilst I have no doubt the sinovac is an effective product I am not sure how accepted it will be globally for travel. Quite important for me.

As I said in the original Op on the 5 vaccinated with mild symptoms, where one of them had nausea and vomited, I said it was not a mild symptom.  Now the other shoe has dropped and it was an allergic reaction to the vaccine.  Glad they got her settled and possibly under observation as an allergic reaction can sometimes be fatal.

Yes allergic reactions can be serious but that doesn't mean there should be any reduction in vaccination.

Individuals can be allergic to all sorts of things so I hoe this is not used as a further no vaccine scare.
