  1. Stayed at Sangtawan Resort White Sand Beach, top marks as a place right on beach, lots of beach activity last year, fire shows and the like, this year? maybe a 1 km easy walk to main bar area if that is the main bar area. Ferry no problem

  2. hi peterrabbit.

Quite a few places have not been able to survive but there are still a fair number of places open.

At the river end of Loy Khro Down under is open, so is Lemongrass.

My main weekend haunt the Red Lion is also open and doing some great food specials including a Sunday roast. Picture added. Music video live footy and motorsports as well.

Most of the bars on Kalare market seem open but not Le Spice indian restaurant. There are Indian restaurants on Loy Khro though if that is what you fancy.

    Kampengdin rd bars open.

    It is quiet for sure.

    They would welcome some custom.

Hope you have a good trip.

PS if you fancy staying out of the city there is Tepin Baan Lek which has an ex pat discount ????

Perhaps it's time to stop crying, bitching, and moaning, and do something about it.

    Sounds about right to me.

A (very) recent poll indicated Thais and Chiang Mai residents do not want international tourists.

This to me seems to say they must look for a totally different direction.

For many years tourism seems to have been in decline here, it is not just the fear of Covid, no tourism promotion seems to be carried out (example what has happened to the once great Loy Krathong parades?)

Times will be difficult and I feel for those suffering the hardships that they are currently suffering and or are to suffer in the future but with both the authorities and the public wishing to insulate themselves from outside contact a new direction needs to be adopted.

It may well be that  Chiang Mai is to return to the cultivation of rice, I don't know as I have not heard any concrete proposal for a viable alternative.

  4. Chiang Mai used to have a fantastic Loy Krathong but all I hear in these difficult times with extremely limited tourism revenue is no no no and no promotion.

The only colour add I have seen is "don't don't don't" (see picture) where as Sukhothai (so picture).

    Poor, very poor I think.

  5. The problem wit the vaccination certificate is it does not guarantee you won't pass on the virus so if you believe this disease is going to decimate the population you need to ensure the Thai residents are also protected as well.

How long before a vaccine programme for all here?

I believe the prevention measures are worse than the cure (only my opinion) but I doubt the powers will take positive action to rekindle the local economies.
