Has anyone seen an official reason for the banning of alcohol?
An official reason for the ban in Restaurants?
Official reasons would be welcome plus translation if at all possible.

Unlikely. These are coming direct from AZ in Europe or India, Thailand is not going to ab able to fulfil this kind of supply
don't agree with you on this, they seem to want to wait for domestic production hence the timescale.

Did I hear TAT say by February 2021

Will be nice if the rice, sugar etc. farmers show us some mercy and reframe from setting fire to their stubble during this period so as we can see this phenomena!
Think I will go straight to YouTube.

Shame not much seems to be happening in Chiang Mai

Ex pat visitors to Chiang Mai seem to have increased over the last couple of weeks especially with some of the direct flights. Hope it continues but I think only 20% down on last year is a little wide of the mark.

Stayed at Sangtawan Resort White Sand Beach, top marks as a place right on beach, lots of beach activity last year, fire shows and the like, this year? maybe a 1 km easy walk to main bar area if that is the main bar area. Ferry no problem

hi peterrabbit.
Quite a few places have not been able to survive but there are still a fair number of places open.
At the river end of Loy Khro Down under is open, so is Lemongrass.
My main weekend haunt the Red Lion is also open and doing some great food specials including a Sunday roast. Picture added. Music video live footy and motorsports as well.
Most of the bars on Kalare market seem open but not Le Spice indian restaurant. There are Indian restaurants on Loy Khro though if that is what you fancy.
Kampengdin rd bars open.
It is quiet for sure.
They would welcome some custom.
Hope you have a good trip.
PS if you fancy staying out of the city there is Tepin Baan Lek which has an ex pat discount ????

Is this just Thai economics?
Less customers = less revenue
Less revenue = increase prices
Problem solved.
Not forgetting Thais polled recently do not want foreign tourists back and the knock on effects are a part of that.

Perhaps it's time to stop crying, bitching, and moaning, and do something about it.
Sounds about right to me.
A (very) recent poll indicated Thais and Chiang Mai residents do not want international tourists.
This to me seems to say they must look for a totally different direction.
For many years tourism seems to have been in decline here, it is not just the fear of Covid, no tourism promotion seems to be carried out (example what has happened to the once great Loy Krathong parades?)
Times will be difficult and I feel for those suffering the hardships that they are currently suffering and or are to suffer in the future but with both the authorities and the public wishing to insulate themselves from outside contact a new direction needs to be adopted.
It may well be that Chiang Mai is to return to the cultivation of rice, I don't know as I have not heard any concrete proposal for a viable alternative.

Reads rather PC analysis, nt what I am seeing which borders on confusion, indecision and reduced prospects for the general population.

The 66 million doses will cover 33 million Thais or roughly 50 per cent of the population.
why only 50%
Come on if you are to rely on vaccination to bring the kingdom back to normality suryl you need to move to around 80% that would lead to immunity?

I have a feeling nothing will change until the population are vaccinated.
I fear you are right but how far off is that, 2 to 3 years?

The problem wit the vaccination certificate is it does not guarantee you won't pass on the virus so if you believe this disease is going to decimate the population you need to ensure the Thai residents are also protected as well.
How long before a vaccine programme for all here?
I believe the prevention measures are worse than the cure (only my opinion) but I doubt the powers will take positive action to rekindle the local economies.

That's 0.000003053% of the population, and majority are over 70. Concerns for rising figures in the winter are warranted but seriously, we're shutting the globe down for this?
I agree, look at this.

Interesting topic.
I am considering solar as a power cut back up for say 3 hours max every now and again, lights tv etc and if possible 3 aircon units.
The frequency of battery change is my main concern.
Advice welcome and appreciated.
COVID-19 latest restrictions ?
