feel sorry for the people trying to make a living, one domestic infection and the area is locked down, shut tight.

Good distraction. This is what you said
"Thais only again?"
As someone who has been I can assure you it is not Thais only.
Feel free however to keep distorting the facts.
sorry sandyf I feel it is you that is distorting the facts, why did you not respond to my reply to you where I said I was ignorant of the facts that you said? Do you have some point to make? You are so self assured you feel you can mislead and misdirect my point that I didn't know anyone other than Thais could benefit from the scheme.
I would have hope for a more constructive response pointing me in the right direction but it seems all you want to do is stick to the initial point my ignorance led me to make.
Enjoy your self righteous unhelpful response in my direction.

Why post the truth when you can distort it, ignorance?
The scheme is open to Thai residents and their guests, and this expat is enjoying the benefits, just had a bottle of wine in the Ao Nang Dusit with the 40% discount.
Yes sandyf ignorance, I didn't know as someone on a non o visa I could apply, great news.

The fact there a relatively few foreigners in the country at this time it's doubtful their hotel stays would be any meaningful help to the hospitality industry.
agree it is generally (if not always here in Thailand) the case but there are quite a few expats here, many if not all of whom contribute tax revenue to Thailand.
I am one and I am sure there are quite a few others who would be encouraged to support the tourism incentive if it was to be extended to us.
As it is now, the government appear to not care or know about the huge effect on the local tourism businesses and employees and unfortunately the institutional xenophobia maked mr feel if they don't want me to support I won't I will oblige by not supporting it.

I think a big problem here is the obsession with maintaining the myth of zero cases of local transmission.
Whilst there may not be zero, it is unlikely I agree but for sure there has been very few acute cases and deaths here. At least in the province I live in.
My thoughts, we need to shift the metric being used by the media, both mainstream and social.
Away from infection rates to acute cases and deaths which I believe are declining globally.

Thais only again?
No point in including those expats.
Good commercial policy

Thailand for Thais seems more important than helping local tourism looking at the unwillingness to expand the domestic promotion schemes to expats.
Let's tell ourselves the well healed rich of the world will come to thailand to be locked away for a fortnight as if they couldn't do that at home with fewer problems.

What a stonkingly good plan, I can see the island being full to overflowing.
No problem for anyone who wants to come to Phuket enough to;
Have a PCR based Covid test in their home country.
Get a fit to fly cert.
Find an airline seat.
Have another Covid test upon arrival. Maybe be quarantines at airport if not flying into Phuket.
Get to hotel, have yet another test and quarantine for 14 days.
Have another test.
Stay maybe for another 2 weeks
Get a fit to fly certificate.
Find an air seat back home.
Possibly have another test upon arrival in home country
Possibly have to quarantine again.
Tourists will be flooding back.

Thailand has gone nearly three months without a confirmed case of a local COVID-19 transmission
not counting the one that tested positive when no longer in quarantine then!

Unable to vote, not my reaction.
We have all seemed to form some deep impressions of this pandemic, cause, effect, and the reaction.
A very serious issue indeed as have been many previous pandemics.
Let us hope for its end and a return to normality.

Believe the figures or not, the evidence is there is a low rate of acute symptom cases here in Thailand, the hospitals are not overflowing and the cremation rates are not going through the roof.
Is it working?
Is it that there is little Covid here because it has been kept at bay? If so the big worry must be that there a huge pool of potential for infection, Thailand could be a delayed time bomb waiting to happen.
Or, as asymptomatic cases are not tested for, there are millions and millions of asymptomatic people out there, which I would say is great? Have the virus but it does you no harm... Wonderful
Or does the environment, lots of sunshine leading to decent vit D levels and rapid death / deactivation of the virus on droplets make transmission very difficult?

Maybe not scubascuba3, maybe they are very trusting of the information the Thai government are issuing.
They say there is a need for the emergency measures to remain so that would indicate to overseas governments an ongoing problem.
They constantly talk of a second wave even with no infections detected for 40+ days indicating an ongoing problem.
They are restricting social activity and not all activities are possible indicating an ongoing problem.
Even the announcement of the return of the Thai football league in September, is to be behind closed doors. September! Indicating an ongoing problem.
It seems to me the Thai government are sending this message to the world, no wonder travel from Thailand is restricted.
Nore it is self quarantine in the UK not state quarantine.

I thought the current quote was 1,000 per day.
If so with 180 days left then we are going to attract 180,000 overseas visitors.
