  1. Hi Guys,

I am travelling back to Phitsanulok on Saturday night (hopefully) and was wondering what the travel situation on the roads was between 22:00 and 05:00. The flight isn't due to arrive until 22:05 which puts me in curfew time.

Also, are the taxis running? I know most of the private guys are army/ex-army so I don't really think its an issue, but would like any advice. Don't really want the missus driving about at that time.

    Cheers

  2. If you enter a legal battle for this, you will end up paying more for sure. Writing it off, IMHO, is the best solution and take it as a lesson learned to either get contracts translated or have someone you trust proof read first.

Of course, you could keep it occupied for the next two weeks to stop her re-leasing it, leaving enough to cover electricity and water, sort of run down the deposit.

I suggest you go out and have tantra with one of your farm animals. . . . except you don't have the foggiest idea what tantra is.

I live full time in Thailand. I'll most likely die here. I don't really like Christianity, and is one reason I live here. Thailand is 95% Buddhist. The .7% Christians who live here don't dictate morality in this country. Especially not the Christian brainwashed expats who so harshly judge those of us who are enjoying life.

I have no desire to, but if I wanted to marry a 20 year old farm girl, not only would my very two successful grown American sons think its way cool, but the girl and her family would love and accept me till the day I die. It's not a problem here. Not a problem with me. Not a problem with the Thai people here in their country. Get over your self-righteous condemnation of people who don't fit your narrow view of whats right or wrong, good or bad.

I think you're too mature Heavydrinker to put yourself in the same league as Whereyoustay. I've defended you before - this doesn't become you. Sorry.

And. . . I have absolutely no problem with whatever you want to do with your farm animals - its up to you, brother.

I know I'm being a bit picky here, and if I have read it wrong I apologize before bring it up buuuut..........................

if 95% are Buddhist, how can 7% be Christian and where do the Muslims and 'others' fit in?

I feel a bit like the spelling police pointing that out, sorry about that...................wink.png.pagespeed.ce.HJgPQ3U3SA.png

there was a . (point) before the seven. look again. point seven percent.

Ah, I now see your point...............biggrin.png

As per line one of the previous post, apologies..........wai.gif

7-11's are a godsend in Thailand. Can be found on every corner and every 200 metres orso. It's wonderful when I'm walking the long main sois and feeling hot and dehydrated, the nearest 7-11 is not far and just hop in to cool down and drink some icy beverage. Sometimes I bump into some cute ladies in there, that's just a plus.

Every 200 metres or so? Are you living out in the sticks my man??.....................tongue.png

  5. Jesse, I thought you'd had a bad day on the spelling front and the topic was about Philips hair dryers.

I am in my room, just about to turn the lights off and stand in a corner for half an hour.......................sad.png

Sorry, don't know anything about either.

Can someone help me out here. I maybe a bit thick but I feel I'm missing something. I've read the OP & 99% of the replies.

The OP appears very passionate about the topic. Some of the respondents likewise very passionate in their replies. However it appears both parties can't stand negative response & criticism yet they keep replying to each other.

To me it's a bit like watching a movie you can't stand but keep watching.... why not change channel or go & do something else ?

Or eating a meal that makes your stomach turn but keep eating..... stop eating & try something else ?

So why do they stay slinging insults if they can't stand the reply ?

Yes, I know it's a forum & debate is good... to a point. So, if they are so thin skinned that they take such offence why stay ? Turn off, stop replying.

Is it just a game ? Superior attitude ? Bored & need entertainment ?

    Just wondering.

    Cheers.

    Mal.

You know, if that statement was directed at real life here instead of about an internet forum, it would trigger alertness of a coup.

Perhaps with thoughts like that, I actually am an expat here...............................blink.png

I remember chatting with a guy who I had the misfortune to work with..He had been in Thailand for years and years. I mentioned that at the weekend I was going to Khaosan Road. He looked at me in disdain and said "Khaosaon Road? It's just full of backpackers"

He beleived that he was now superior to those people. What a <deleted>.

I have had "English teachers" act all "superior" to me and even instructed me into how to be Thaier than Thai, thinking I was a tourist, but much hilarity was had when I enquired how long they had been in Thailand and they said 12 months and when they enquired as when I had arrived to commence my time as a two week millionaire in Thailand, I said 12 years ago, I work here for a MNC, and please go away you spotty little git...20x20xwink.png.pagespeed.ic.HJgPQ3U3SA.p

Its the same as having to admit to an all-knowing "expat" that you have only visited Thailand half a dozen times as opposed to their twelve.

The difference is however the last visit was 17 years ago (all entry & exits on re-entries since then) and am still here. Not really worth mentioning details like that though...............20x20xwink.png.pagespeed.ic.HJgPQ3U3SA.p

OP, what is the (your) benchmark to define your different classes of expat? I am honestly interested in knowing.

Unfortunately, there is no set definition. There those who care and those who don’t give a toss. I for one love having a blether and pint with expats unless they start rabbiting on about how cheap life is in Asia and like that. It’s also sickening when they seem to enforce there superiority about who they know and could call in a flash if there was a sign of trouble. All this is just a facade to try to gain your undying respect for these over the top egotists.

Live and let live is my motto.

Please understand, I’m not inferring everyone is the same. I’ve met and befriended many great guys in Thailand and we have some brilliant laughs and to me – that’s what life is all about – being Happy!!!

Incidentally, I feel honoured now I have a lt more support than I did earlier (am) and now the cutting remarks have peeled off considerably and suspect I've opened a Pandora's box now the <deleted> has hit the fan.

    Thank you ALL

    OK, cheers

Edit: You might want to change your avatar a bit if you really do want to be taken serious...........................wink.png

Thailand is not a free country
    There is no free speech

They want you in, spend, then out. If you have something to offer in the way of specialist skills, they want to squeeze as much out as they can - You pay taxes for which you get next to nothing in return, no rights no nothing.
Smiles all around to your face but You will be treated with nothing but contempt by the locals in your office who are simply incompetent and jealous of your position and salary. They do not want the western expat in their country earning money

That OP, is words of wisdom from a true expat..................wink.png

  9. Anyway, I am married but know how to please her. Just bought her one of these..................whistling.gif

Renault and Ford have joined forces to create the perfect small car for women.

Mixing the Renault 'Clio' and the Ford 'Taurus' they have designed the 'Clitaurus'.

It comes in pink, and the average male car thief won't be able to find it - let alone turn it on - even if someone tells him where it is and how to do it.

Rumour has it though, it can be a real bitch to start in the morning!

Some have reported that on cold winter mornings, when you really need it, you can't get it to turn over.

New models are initially fun to own, but very costly to maintain, and horribly expensive to get rid of.

Used models may initially appear to have curb appeal and a low price, but eventually have an increased appetite for fuel, and the curb weight typically increases with age.

Manufacturers are baffled as to how the size of the boot increases, but say that the paint may just make it LOOK bigger.

This model is not expected to reach collector status. Most owners find it is best to lease one, and replace when it becomes troublesome.

Judgmental crowd today, I guess no one here has ever made a mistake that may have led to a tragedy.

Go ahead and cast your stones.

I am a single man who has never had children, and even I know you NEVER leave such a young child alone in the bath.

Why the mother (or her lover) did not know this too leaves me dumbfounded.

    An innocent young life lost.

Thailand is generally lacking in education for child care and basic rescue techniques.

    For Example,

A child choking, usual Thai adult response is to run back and forth crying.
Nobody knows to whack them upside down.

Not only that but child drowning is usually completely silent and quite quick.

Have you ever really tried to watch a two year old for an hour, with no attention lapse of two minutes or greater? Almost impossible for most adults.

A tragedy that nobody need to make worse by pointlessly vilifying the mother.

I would have to agree with your first line reference first aid, but by no means would I limit it to Thailand.

The one thing about this tragic incident that saddens me the most is that, dependent on how long the child was left in the water, there is always a chance of respiration through CPR even (especially) if no pulse can be found. Sadly, CPR is not taught or promoted as much as it should be IMHO, saying this knowing that incorrect administration can be dangerous as well.

On your second point, I would also agree. It is a nasty human trait for us to relax our defenses through routine actions. The very task of seeing a child playing happily with her toys in the bath, seen by the parent probably hundreds of times, is enough to lull awareness. Everyone knows it is wrong and should never happen, but unfortunately it does. A child should never be left alone in the kitchen, left alone with a pet, etc, etc.

To be clear, this is neither condoning what happened, nor is it pointing fingers or casting stones. It is a tragic accident at this moment, that may well change if more evidence is brought to the table.

the itch that created the daughter is the itch that killed the daughter - so sad and the woman is a liar

was she naked when she bathed the daughter? In the Bible it teaches us that only the truth will set us free

The saddest part of this story is that the daughter died as the mother enjoyed multiple orgasm riding Benjamin's manhood

You are assuming quite a lot here. I have just reread the OP and can't find anything close to your warped fantasy.

  16. I don't understand what the lover's christian (surname?) has to do with this.

I partially understand why a poster would want a 1 minutes silence for the little girl, but not why he/she would label someone a "wumker (?)" because they decided they didn't want to comply.

I fully understand the tragedy, how a minutes lapse in awareness can lead to death and a lifetime of suffering for the accused.

    RIP little one....................wai.gif

Mobi. About the possible overcharging .. maybe leave the beer bottles at the table AND do a chit each time someone orders.. can't go wrong then .. hopefully!

Sent from my XT1032 using Thaivisa Connect Thailand mobile app

Thanks for the suggestion. It's a good idea and is the system use by many Thai restaurants/drinking places but rarely - if ever used in western style bars.

The punters expect their empties to be removed, and if they weren't, they would run out of space on the table to drink and it would look very cluttered.

The man who claimed we had overcharged was in a party of four on sitting on one of our smaller tables so it would have been chaos if we hadn't cleared away the empties.

Nevertheless I will keep your idea in mind - maybe a box near each table to keep the empties until the bill is paid.

So far this has remained a single incident.

Anyone else have any views/experience on this?

Hi Mobi, best of luck in your venture and wish you well.

I was on a similar path as yours with reference to coming off the sauce and opening a bar, but my time frame was 3 months instead of 3 years and I hope you find it works for you as it did for me.

We moved from Pattaya to Phitsanulok and my wife was worried that I would get bored, so through equal compromises we decided to open a bar/restaurant, she would look after the restaurant, I would look after the bar in the capacity of an unofficial host. Game plan was simple, never chase the investment and as long as the place paid for itself and more importantly as long as we were happy running it, then everything was a go. Truth, I gave it a year.

Almost 13 years later, mostly because of my work commitments, we decided to call it a day and try for a normal life! 18 hour days do catch up with you eventually. Anyway, the points of the above are anything is possible. I have been dry for the last 15 years and we both had a wonderful experience and met a multitude of great people during that time. If I was ever tempted to have a drink, one of the best incentives (I found) was to look at some of the customers and remind myself that I was like that once as well..................thumbsup.gif

As for problems with customers over questionable tabs. Over time you will get to know your customer base, these are very seldom a problem. For the visitors, make sure the staff chits the orders and if necessary, check that they are doing this. At least then you will be able to back the staff up if anything goes wrong with a clear mind. But always remember, mistakes do happen. If you have persistent complainers, and you allow them back, make them sign for each chit.

Apologies for the 'book' I appear to have written above. Once again Mobi, good luck in your adventure.

    C.
