  1. Suvarnabhumi was solely meant to impress the Thai people... Oh look at all the glass! We've built the biggest in the world!

(and your uncly made some hefty profits on the glass deliveries, ....)

but I agree with all being said here. Start with replacing the immigration officers if you really want to have repeat visitors.

And as for toilets.... There are toilets???????? Oh, you mean those at the outer left corner? Yes, very convenient, ... I guess it's the only place that could not be sold to Kingpower....

  2. Just a few thoughts.

He is said to have lost most of his money abroad because of bad decisions he has made in the stock Market due to the economical crisis.

I wonder what the financial situation of Thailand would have been if he would have been PM.

I would just think twice before handing him over all of Thailand's taxpayer's money.

  3. not sure if this model is distributed by JBL distributor in Thailand but it is white, can be installed on ceiling and in bathroom too as it is a weather proof speakers that can be used outdoor.

You might check with JBL distributor at the address below or ask the sales at their showroom Dream Theater on the 2nd floor in Siam Paragon.

    Thanks for that :-)

  4. Thanks for the responses. Sonos looks good but on a rental condo it's above my budget.

The airport express seems promising. Anyone has some for sale second hand (2 or 3?)

Also, how easy is it to control? Do I need to be physically close to my itunes PC or can I just handle it from my iPhone.

Would this also work with the iTunes cable Buffalo NAS?

Is there any way that I can also stream some channels from let's say Live365 on this?

  5. I currently have music / audiobooks on my server (will move it to a NAS soon probably).

I would want to play different music in different rooms and be able to control it (volume, source, playlist) (preferably through my iphone).

Since I live in a condo, I'd rather not have to put wires in.

What is the cheapest solution (can use second hand material). No small pc that has to be running per room. I'd like to save on power and heat-generation.

I was thinking of some kind of wireless audio receiver/streamer or something. Preferably I'd like to just mount two speakers in the ceiling and put the device behind it.

Anyone has any experience with this?

  6. TOT has 3G. With their pricing plans what good is it?

Even if you could get 7.2 Mbps (about 1MB/second... this could blow a hole in your wallet very soon when they keep on charging per MB). Utterly ridiculous, but what can you expect from TOT. They can't even build a decent ADSL network. Sometimes I have 500ms latency on their links within Thailand, let alone Europe.

TOT = Get your big fat ass of the internet cable so we can all have some speed please!

  8. Whenever someone (or a herd) is standing in front of the door trying to get in before any of us get out I asked in a clear voice "Can we get out first please?"... This appears to shock a lot of them into moving back and realizing how silly they are acting. I used to know the phrase in Thai language which had even more effect. I suggest we all start saying something like that. Not in a mean of beligerent way but just as a clear indication that they should show courtesy.

Apart from that.. Posters and 'advertisements' in the BTS should help. At least the monitors would be used for a good purpose. And yes... add more carriages please and start contruction on a second track at the Saphan Taksin station. It's ridiculous, waiting in a BTS on top of the two tracks on the bridge to head into a station with only 1 track.

  9. I've been using 3G for 4 months now in BKK with speeds averaging between 2-5Mbps via True.

To clear up some of the confusion. 3G HAS been in BKK for some time now via True on their current frequencies. That's also how AIS runs their 3G in CMX.

Officially 3G is free for now as it is in a testing phase. the delay in the auction is for the higher end frequencies which really will allow great speeds and better availability everywhere. As soon as those are auctioned we'll see 'commercial' launches but indeed... it has been a stalling mechanism to allow snail-paced TOT to get some things ready before it is rendered obsolete.

With their sloppy adsl network, I wonder how their 3G service will be. Hopefully their partners will be able to connect it to their own backbone so at least there are some decent network engineers who will look at problems instead of the 'we don't have email for support service at tot' explanations.

Let the expansion begin so it finally reaches across the river. Another good area is Salaya near the University which has excellent 3G coverage by True. The area around Sanam Pao-Ari is flaky though. I hope they would fix that one.

  10. Cambodia's recent activities with Thaksin really scaring thai gov......i wonder why..

I don't think it's about being scared. He is doing irrepairable damage to the country so something had to give.

They should have done it a long time ago. Get this matter resolved once and for all so the country can move on.

you have no clue what you're talking about.

thaksin has done more good for this country than any person before him and likely more good than any person to come.

keep on believing what the current government is saying about him if you like.

Joker. I've lived in Thailand for most of my life and while he has done some good for the country he has mainly recycled old programs, a lot of them that were completely free before, rebranded them and sold them back to the populace as his gift in exchange for votes.

No matter how good he may seem in your eyes, he clearly is not a leader capable of uniting the country and as such he is doing more harm than good.

  11. Thanks for the comments and suggestions.

I'm just quite surprised that the repair price is 6,700 THB after less than owning it for 3 years. I had hoped my washing machine to last in the 10 year range.

Im also a bit puzzled how the technician can say that both items are broken all at once. It would make sense that or the PCB has a problem or the switch but both at the same time looks more like guesswork to me.

  12. Not sure where to put this in the forums. I hope maybe one of you can help me out.

I have a washing machine Electrolux model EWF 771 that stopped working 2 days ago.

Electrolux mechanic came in today and said the mainboard needs to be replaced (and the door switch - not sure why that is necessary as the door worked fine).

He quoted me a price of 6700 THB on a wahing machine that is 2.5y old (half year over warranty).

That price sounds rather excessive. Does anyone over here know somebody who can fix/replace it at a decent price?

    I live in Bangkok.

    Thanks

  13. I just took the liberty of running the same tests on my True 8Mbps Local (& International) link.

The results are astounding. It think it is utterly clear that they are limiting certain ports and protocols, but even worse is the maximum speed that was achieved was in the 300kbps range where it should be in the 8000kbps range.

Glasnost: Test if your ISP is manipulating BitTorrent traffic

    Results for your host (ppp-xx-xx-xx-xx.revip.asianet.co.th - xx-xx-xx-xx):

Is BitTorrent traffic on a well-known BitTorrent port (6881) throttled?

The BitTorrent upload (seeding) worked. Our tool was successful in uploading data using the BitTorrent protocol.

Your ISP possibly rate limits your BitTorrent uploads. In our tests a TCP uploads achieved at least 260 Kbps while a BitTorrent upload achieved at most 100 Kbps. You can find details here.

The BitTorrent download worked. Our tool was successful in downloading data using the BitTorrent protocol.

Your ISP possibly rate limits your BitTorrent downloads. In our tests a TCP download achieved at least 214 Kbps while a BitTorrent download achieved at most 24 Kbps. You can find details here.

Is BitTorrent traffic on a non-standard BitTorrent port (10009) throttled?

The BitTorrent upload (seeding) worked. Our tool was successful in uploading data using the BitTorrent protocol.

Your ISP possibly rate limits your BitTorrent uploads. In our tests a TCP uploads achieved at least 266 Kbps while a BitTorrent upload achieved maximal 105 Kbps. You can find details here.

The BitTorrent download worked. Our tool was successful in downloading data using the BitTorrent protocol.

Your ISP possibly rate limits your BitTorrent downloads. In our tests a TCP download achieved at least 336 Kbps while a BitTorrent download achieved at most 32 Kbps. You can find details here.

Is TCP traffic on a well-known BitTorrent port (6881) throttled?

There's no indication that your ISP rate limits all downloads at port 6881. In our test, a TCP download on a BitTorrent port achieved at least 384 Kbps while a TCP download on a non-BitTorrent port achieved at least 336 Kbps. You can find details here.

There's no indication that your ISP rate limits all uploads at port 6881. In our test, a TCP upload on a BitTorrent port achieved at least 314 Kbps while a TCP upload on a non-BitTorrent port achieved at least 266 Kbps. You can find details here.

So as can be seen from above. It is (1) shaped by protocal + (2) bandwidth oversold which has been utterly clear. It is impossible at times to stream a 512kbps youtube movie on what they sell as an 8Mbps package. Even the local speed to Thailand yesterday was at 2Mbps!

  14. Slightly off topic but where can I get some documents scanned using an A3 scanner?

I would like to get them scanned to a memory stick but as I live out in the sticks A4 is all that is available. :)

I am not sure the shop I have mentionned above can do it but very likeky

Otherwise go to MBK (grounf Floor) opposite Mac Donald you can find one and there are quite qa few of them there as well

Thanks. Will check out both places.

  15. I have a 3G modem that works with True (unlimited) that I want to use as my backup connection so I can access my mail at home at all times when in the city (the ADSL router tends to drop it's connection once in awhile).

I know I will need to forward my ports for email. Have you had any success doing port forwarding on truemove 3G or are there solutions to it?

  16. I just had to make a new printer purchase and have some ink left in my cabinet that I only bought less than a month ago.

    CHEAP & ORIGINAL BROTHER

    * Original Brother ink type LC47. 3 color cartridges C, M, Y as one set. I paid 1240THB - have the receipt in front of me). You can have it for 1000THB. I still have a generic yellow catrdige yellow that you can have for free with it as well.

    FREE & ORIGINAL HP

    * 2 original HP color cartridges type 57. Those are about 1 year old and I don't make any claims that they are still usable, so you can have them for free as I don't want to sell things that I am not sure whether they are in pristine condition or not. Just PM me and come and pick them up along the BTS in BKK. I think they cost about 1000THB apiece when I bought them).

  17. Thanks so much for all your feedback. It was a close race for me between Brother (as I was quite happy about it for the last 4 years, though a bit slow) and HP (where I had an experience of 25,000 printer break down on me 1 year and 2 days after purchase and was told it would be cheaper to buy a new one than to have it repaired....)

I really liked the A3 capabilities of the Brother but 10,000 THB more for duplex (print only) and a bigger paper tray seems a bit excessive. I tried to justify every possible reason to buy this goodie as it would be good to print some of my sheets on A3 size... However, after reading comments here and reading reviews of the Brother (it HAS good reviews though some colors are a bit washed and it is super slow) and the HP (great overall results) I have come to the decision that saving money on paper (full duplex) and especially space. I'd rather take 200 pages in duplex with me in a case instead of 400 pages single sided). Also it's good for nature and it would probably be cheaper to get some things printed in A3 from a print shop.

In the end the Brother A3 did not make economical sense for the limited use I have for it. I did some calculations and am posting my info over here so maybe it will help some other people who are also in the same position and need to make a decision with all (or most) of the fact.

Both the Brother and HP Photosmart ink is about the same price for a similar number of printouts (the difference is less than 5% so it would take many many many years to use it to justify buying the Brother... In fact, the Brother (surprisingly to me) was this time more expensive than the HP. It also has bigger 1.5pl drop size where the HP photosmart has 1.3pl (sharper).

So the choice between the HP's then. The photosmart is a home model. The 8500 is the office model. The home model has better capabilities than the business model (full duplex printing AND SCANNING) and has better color print resolution. On the other hand, the office model saves you heaps of money on ink to the tune of 50-60%, so if you mainly want to do a lot of B&W prints the latter might be a good choice or you may go for the Brother and buy an affordable mono laserjet for bulk office printing.

So, I am going for the photosmart premium all-in-one. I just hope HP has a care pack over here for 3 years like they have abroad.

    * If somebody knows of clear directions to a print shop that can print some of my docs on A3 and happen to know approximate prices, please let me know (by PM) preferably. I appreciate it.

    * Also, I have some ununsed original Brother ink for sale (brand new, color, c, m, y type LC47) at 1000THB (I paid 1240THB - have the receipt in front of me), let me know.

    * I also found 2 more original color cartridges type 57 for HP in my closet from our printer in another location. Those are about 1 year old and I don't make any claims that they are still usable, so if anybody wants to have them for free, just come and pick them up, I live in BKK along the BTS. I think they cost about 1000THB apiece when I bought them).

    Have a great Wednesday!
