  1. Hi Sim,

Thanks. I appreciate that. I already sent an e-mail to true but they pointed me to a page about personal tv (add-on service) that did not at all answer my questions. It would be hard to imagine that nobody in thailand was ever able to get a VCR to work with ubc... :o

Let's hope the 20,000 hd recorder does not sit here in vain on the shelf :D

Sillyfouls i just send a message to one of my friend working for Samsung , i ask him to see if possible to obtain this code with technician !

Wash , no it is not what we looking for , but thank

Astral , i think i can enter only three number code , i use to start by 000 and 001 but after a while just stop doing it , perhaps it is four, have to check again! anyway any remote control have a code , to talk to the box

I ring true two years ago , they did not give me any help , same with Samsung , but what tell me is possible , is when I go my plasma deliver I use to have analogue box , and they did know the code for it .

when I change to digital decoder I lost the code

  2. Not much has changed in Thailand..

Still the same old half-arsed way of dealing with things.

I agree with HM the Queen's remarks and actions should be taken.

Everytime however something makes the headlines, the powers that be in Thailand (whichever government that is in place) jump on the bandwagon to get a resolution out first without thinking things through.

So after the 'you are an adult at 18' but you cannot drink alcohol

now we are going to have the

'you are an adult at 18' but you cannot do promotional work anymore.

Why don't we just get over with all of the crap and raise the legal age to 20?

That will clearly say to the young people.. you are not mature enough yet at 18 to drink or dance ... so you are also not mature to make a political decision and vote for us or vote us off.

Will someone please start a crackdown on stupid laws!! As long as these ambiguous rules are still maintained Thailand will never progress.

Start education people. Stop repressing them.

Trust the people to behave and you will instill responsibility.

Treat the people as little kids and you will instill vice.

  3. It sounds to me like some of the X-Ray officers in Thailand tipped off law inforcement in the Phillipines.

They would notice it here, but it might have caused an international row arresting her here. They might even give here the death sentence if they found something dodgy in addition to the pills she already had.

She was leaving thailand. The thai officers probably called their counterparts to earn some good points, hoping they would be tipped off if there was similar traffic coming this way...

Apart from that... prosecution and action to take was now PH's problem as she is a Pinoy who just touched down in the Philippines.

Really hope to hear more how this story ends.

On a subnote.. My mom visits thailand 3 times a year. Never got checked for over 6 years already. She came here 2 times already this year. Full check of all luggage. I know that some months ago a group of thieves stealing items from unlocked baggage were caught. At about the same time inspections started to intensify....

Could it be part that things are related and part of the gang is looking into other ways to earn some money on the side.. The money they earned before from stealing items before they even arrived at customs?

  4. I'm on AIS. Two days ago in the evening I also started having problems that 90% of my sms messages did not get through. Deffered, and finally failed.

I called helpdesk two times and sure there was nothing wrong of course they said. It must me my phone!! I've been using it for 3 years now with the same settings. "I will give you the correct number xxx.xxx.xx" ..Me..."That's the one I've got!!". "Just reset and check again sir".

I called again, had another smarty on the phone said the same thing... oh it's not them. but they will call me back.

Never heard from them again. Around 2am messages finally started to get delivered again.

The only thing I hate even more then their technical incompetence is their helpdesk (or managers telling the helpdesk) to fool customers as there is nothing wrong with the service the company provide.... YOU, THE CUSTOMER MUST BE THE FOOL!. Why bother us?

The only thing that keeps me shackled to AIS is the number, but a few more of these shenanighans and they can expect an even bigger nosedive in profits. Ignorant B**tar*s.

  5. Our company would like to organise a lucky draw to let our customers benefit and also to elevate the company profile donate money to charity.

    What are the requirements?

    - Can the lucky draw prize be cash?

    - Is there a limit to it?

    - Other requirements?

For the charity.. We want to make sure

the money reaches the charity. Is there something

    like a charity registry?

Is there anyone here who can help us with more info? We plan to launch our promotion next week.

    Please PM me.

    Best regards,

  6. I have been going to Bumrungrad for a while now for skin laser treatment with Dr Pravit which is going great.

I also had botox at Bumrungrad with another doctor (don't remember his name) and am not at all pleased: 1) No sedation at all, only ice cold ice against your face which made me almost pass out, 2) Not keeping track of injections on a chart for further consultation, 3) more expensive than other place even though claiming it's the 'real' botox', 4) no complimentary check up consultation. 5) results were unsatisfactory. Never doing botox there again (Will check which doctor it was)

Doing most botox at apex emporium. Good prices, good services but also a bit in a hurry so little sedation (first time I got some).... probably depending upon the amount of clients waiting. But with check up results.

Best experience so far is in Pattay at Aesthica on 2nd road. Great staff, they take time, know what they are doing, excellent results, follow-up, sedation... Too bad it's a 3 hours drive but when I live there I was a regular customer. Say hi from chris suksabai ;-) and he may even throw in a discount :-D

  7. Internet Cafes have to close at 10pm? That's 'good news' for people needing to get in touch with their loved ones or family on the other side of the globe.

I think our Indian friends are laughing their pants off when they read this after Thailand's statement it wants to replace India as an IT hub.

Right now I don't think about it too much. I feel pitty for the people as most have no idea what is happening being spoonfed by conventional media. People eventually will see what's been happening and it won't be pretty then I'm afraid.

    Long live the king.

  8. I'm looking for EMS systems (such as gymform plus) and replacement pads here in Bangkok. Does anyone know where to get them.

And before comic relief starts ... :-). I do work out as well. Using EMS works just really well for me while at work/home so it perfectly works together.

    Thanks in advance.

  9. Are you using the wireless portion for anything?  Is it properly set up?  I'm guessing that the router is the cause... check if there's a firmware update, and turn off anything that you don't actually use.

I'm using the wireless portion to synch with my laptop. I can try turning it off and see what happens. The main reason I bought the zyxel is to get rid of excessive boxes (ap, hub, multiple nics..) .

Any other ideas? BTW, what speeds are you getting on BT/BC? Also 20 KBps down?

Latest firmware locked and loaded already. Anyone over here that has a similar setup?

  10. This is my setup:

    Phone outlet 4 Mbps / 512 Kbps

    !

    ADSL Splitter

    !

    ADSL2+ Router (Zyxel 600HW) 100 Mbps + 54 Mbps Wireless

    !

    SMC Gigabit Switch 10/100/1000 Mbps

    ! !

    ! Workstation 1000 Mbps

    !

File / Backup server 1000 Mbps

I made a file/backup server because I don't want to loose any data stored on my workstation

so every day all data is copied to my fileserver (This before people say I should not run

2 pc's on a True home package. I'm not running an office off of it).

    My router is 192.168.0.1

My file / backup server is 192.168.0.2

    My workstation is 192.168.0.3

    Very straightforward.

I am running azureus on my fileserver because except for making the nightly backup it is running idle.

Speed I get on azureus are bad (well, we all know TRUE). It used to be 100 KBps (800kbps on a 4096kbps package (about 20%). Now it is 20 KBps (160kbps or about 4% of the advertised speed).

On the router NAT has been installed to deliver the packages to 192.168.0.2. Firewall has been opened for the necessary ports (not the standard ones, yet it does not even matter). Azureus shows all green icons, so apart from the bad speed.. it works.

Now, I installed the file server because I work with Digital Video, so I dump my daily recordings to my fileserver (striping), hence the 1000 Mbps connection, just in case somebody wondered.

Problem is that when azureus is running I get frequent times that I cannot access that machine. If I ping to it it gets time outs. After a few seconds (sometimes half a minute) it comes back on and back to the normal pingtimes of 1ms. Very annoying when I want to copy sthg to my server. Also messenger and icq kick out recently even when the router says there has not been a disconnect. Or maybe that is problems on the true side without the adsl line being reset?

Does anybody have any idea what this can be? Is it the switch? Is it the router timing out and giving my azureus box trouble... hm... puzzled and can't figure it out.

    Azureus settings are very moderate:

    - 5 max simul. outbound connections (xp pro sp2 patched tcpip stack to even allow 100 conn.)

    - transfer 25 KB/s max upload limit

    - transfer 100 KB/s max download limit

    - Default max upload slots/torrent : 6

    - Max number of conn. per torrent : 10

    - Max number of conn. globally : 150

Downloading about 6 torrents at a time (used to work great even downloading 20 torrents at a time). I tried dling only 2 torrents at a time. No change. The only change is that the speed is lower as true limits the speed on any port it catches to 1KB/s apparently so the only way to get a little bit of your speed is to get at least 20 connections.

    Any thoughts highly appreciated.

  11. Bkkbutcher.

I connect to it via bluetooth or irda but the phone does not start up (white screen). When I was able to connect it could not backup the info.

    Crossy.

I meant flash memory indeed. My contacts are not stored on the sim (too little memory and truncated texts) so they are stored in the phone itself.

I just had a friend write me in thai language that they should NOT do a soft or hard reset on the phone. If they cannot find a solution I will send it to a data recovery center in the us. About 100$ but worth it.

Not to happy about nokia anymore. My previous one also started resetting. Will go for a sony erriccson or imate maybe. Would really love to use audible on it.

    Thaireq.

Thanks for the info. Might give that a try. Will go to pattaya for the weekend so thanks again.

    LivinLOS

Hehe, Thanks for the recommendation. Another friend just told me the same thing. Sounds like the perfect phone. Just would hope it can play my audiobooks while I'm on the road. Tired of bringing a chunky pda along as well :-D.

  12. My nokia 6600 died today (Rip.... last fr***in nokia for sure)....

The phone does not come online anymore. It started with erratic rebooting. Now only a white screen... so probably a problem with the boot sequence.

In each nokia 6600 there's a tiny harddrive (6Mb) where all contacts are stored (I was not able to make a backup to mmc or to pc). Since a phone is like a windows system (boots and stores data) someone with the right tools may be able to regain my lost contacts and sms messages.

Did anyone have the same problem and got it resolved? Where did you go?

A bit desperate over the 100s of contacts worldwide I don't want to lose.

    :o

  13. There indeed seems to be a surge in the killing of foreigners.

Sad to say that politics and the media is to blame for it.

The name Thai Rak Thai is a name similar to other parties' names in europe that want to get rid of foreigners in the country. By using and promoting that name instead of saying "thais like thais" you also make it clear to the population that "thais do not like foreigners". I think this is a very bad direction, not only for tourism but for investments and all other activities going on over here.

Just two days ago I was watching what I believe was thai 3 tv. I don't speak thai fluently so I cannot tell for sure but from what I've seen: a white foreigner was depicted as stealing from other 'farang', gambling, whoring and at the end being kicked karate style by the program's main thai character. This is just promoting violence and racism.

I think some farangs give most of us a bad rep at times but it's a dangerous precendent to see a show like the one on thai 3 as it is typical of putting the blame at an external factor instead of looking at the real problems in the country.

  14. Well here I am,

Another farang in sin city :o not that old though (early 30ies). What drove me here? I guess it was the weather, family living here and a business proposal.

The nightlife is not bad but after a while one tends to get bored by the lack of some real great pubs like in Europe or the US. Maybe it's the lack of a sensible conversation in english or another european language (I am improving my thai language skills but then again there's the cultural barrier being that we're almost coming from different periods in time). I've had great fun here already but I'm starting to miss some real friends as most of the farangs are on hollidays or are in a different age range (no offense :D).

So, ARE there some great farang females around that are also looking for some great conversation or a watching a movie/dvd? Drop me a line and let's meet. After all life's what you make it :D

    Hear from you soon,

    SF

  15. Just got it confirmed that Thailand deregulated Wifi for indoor use only with a limit on radiated power of 100mW... Free to experiment with whatever you like as long as you stay within limits...

Does that mean that you can point a high gain yaghi inside your house just behind the window, pointing to another location, after all whatever has a roof on top is inside, right ? :o
