  1. Bike week BangSean Chonburi 2009 was an amazing experience. Thousands of distinctive, unusual, altered, plain, simple and special motorbikes jam-packed into a beach road circuit. Great positive attitude and good vibes everywhere. Carabao rocked the stage late Sat night. Hundreds of bikes still cruzing around 05:30am Sun upon my departure. Keep on rolling!

  2. Wow a BangSaen Bike Week, sounds too cool ! ; hope I wont be out of place riding my new mini Thai 2010 Ninja 250R (SE)? Just found out about this bike event, made previous plans months ago for upcoming BangSaen SuperCar events Nov 27-29. My Kawasaki owners manual designates 4,000 rpm max engine speed break in for first 0 – 800 km. Guess prior to Sat I’ll have to go over to Banglamung and bar fine a sexy little skinny with a thong propped up on the back seat to take away the attention of my fat ass leisurely riding this little mini entry level sport bike around. Going to be really hard keeping the r/min down so low for this weekends road trip. If you see me about say hello. Peace!

  3. Went in and out of new ChockChai Immigration office in about 10min swiftly to get an address conformation that I needed for drivers license renewal. Conformation document was free no charge; needed to provide two pictures , copy of passport, and fill out a short form. New office location is more convent for my case, only 30min drive versus the 1.5hr drive I needed to get to Korat site. I am happy with this change.

Office is 1 km west of the main light intersection 224 & 24 in ChokChai on the south side of 24 next to PTT gas station. (Note map they hand out at old Korat Immigration to get to new ChokChai is confusing as up points South? [map is actually up-side-down?])

  4. If anyone cares here is my report on attaining second 5 year driver license renewal in Korat. After 6 years of myriad driving in Thailand, encounter at Transportation Department this time (3rd time) went fairly well. Did everything one month early before expiration date (birthday). Interesting though that new license received this month 2009 has an issue date of past 2004 valid to expire date 2014 on birth date.

    Prepared :

Copies of Passport and relevant pages ~ 20thb + 15min walk.

    Medical Report ~ 80thb ~ 15min at clinic + 1.5hrs driving = 1.75hrs.

Address conformation from immigration ~ no charge ~ round trip to Korat Immigration only to find out office has moved to ChokChai (oopps)_ driving = 2hrs + next day round trip drive to new ChokChai Immigration = 1hr.

At Department of Land Transportation in ChokChai :

    Needed :

    Expired drivers licenses.

    Passport and copies of passport.

    Medical report.

    Address conformation from immigration.

Had to do a Reflex Test (pushing foot pedals alternating gas and brake via choice red and green lights) ; Color Blindness Test (reading colored numbers) ; Depth Perception Test (aligning a moving pin with a fixed pin via a remote joy stick). Lots of fun.

Digital pictures taken on spot. Smile.

In and Out in of this Department in about 1.5 hr.

Private Car License cost = 555thb.

Private Motorcycle license cost = 305thb.

    Total costs = 960thb.

Total time = 6.5 hrs (over 2 days).

  5. Power inverters are available and easy to use for most simple minds. Note though, my TIT experience; years back had all my 110v 60Hz heavy duty Milwaukee and DeWalt power tools shipped over here. Bought a few different size amp power converters to Thai 220v 50Hz at Home Pro, very simple plug in conversion. After an issan worker burned out my first drill, I spent a day taping bright yellow duck style tape on all the cords with 110v in bold black letters, marked the inverters also 220V > and 110V > in bright yellow and bold black print. Explained to my Thai workers that these 110v tools will break (Go BOOM) if plugged into thai plug, and that they must use a converter when using a marked 110v tool. Needless to say after my 110v drill, saw, grinder and cordless charger were burnt out over the course of about two weeks (always when I was not around) I decided to put the other remaining 110v specialty tools away stored for my own use only. Ended up buying all new Bosch 220v power tools to use here. This is Thailand!

  6. Trucks I’ve always like tough Fords; the Rangers are built here in Rayong for local use and global export to over 100+ nations. Seen new reasonably priced Thai built Ranger Open Cab 2.5L 4x2 manual trans models going for 550,000thb, and Ranger Open Cab 3.0L 4x4 auto trans models going for about 680,000thb. Strong duratorq turbo diesels; 2.5L puts out 140 horsepower/105kW and 330Nm of torque; 3.0L puts out 155 horsepower/115kW and 380Nm of torque.

Exterior has always had its distinctive muscular look, though new interiors have more carlike comfort. Check one out, as they say, beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

  7. Wheres the Tata Xenon? MIA?

DNF. Crashed out on turn 3, injuring 13 Burmese labourers riding in the back.

Ha ha; perhaps someone heard the Bira announcer say,” MAI MEE TATA” Heavy rains, finance cutbacks force Tata Xenon team into regressive mode do to water logging at site during a monsoon; racing budget stirred by more cost savings needed on cheap, bare-necessity, no-frills Nano launch.

  8. What are the normal kinds of modifications allowed on the pickups in the race? Anything at all? What sort of hp would they put out, and 0-100 times?

Stock versions of these 2.5 liter turbo diesel engines are rated between 140-160 horsepower before racing modifications; suppose teams are doubling output with the numerous different types of turbo, intercooler, fuel system and engine modifications being made.

SuperPickupThailand rules are published in Thai. From conversations had with many team mechanics, rules for entrance into SuperTruck class include:

Pickup truck manufacture for public sales with make no longer than 5 years old.

Diesel commonrail engine capacity 2.5L or less, 4 cyl only, either 2or4 wheel drive, either 2or4 door body.

Modifications inside engine allowed freely, but must remain within factory short block and cylinder head.

Turbo charger, Intercooler, additions, modifications, allowed; additional radiators allowed.

Total weight including driver and racing equipment used throughout racing, qualifying not less than 1,400 kg.

Exhaust emissions must remain within standard Thai law. Emission tests are inspected after qualifying and race end.

Tires used are distributed by organizer (BF Goodrich – G Force), 8 tires are allowed for qualifying and race, of both wet and dry surface.

Suspension modifications allowed as long as factory mounting points are used.

Transmission , Axel modifications allowed (ratios, clutch disc, clutch cover, flywheel changed freely), also a different transmission manufacture other than truck type can be used but needs to be available to public for distribution.

Brakes, drums can be changed to disc brake systems. ABS systems are not allowed.

Safety equipment: must have 6 points min roll bar, side impact protection must be installed on driver side. Safety belts at least 4 points, racing style driver seat must be used.

Vehicle must have towing points; front and rear with diameter of at less 80mm not exceed 100mm.

Fuel shut off valve, and battery disconnect switch must be installed, location clearly labeled on the outside of vehicle.

2 kg fire extinguisher must be installed.

Believe that about covers it. If anyone has copy of official technical spec in English please share, I would greatly appreciate digesting them.

  11. Yes indeed interesting; mask portion seems to be related to coconut husk style masks used at ghost festivals (Pee Ta Khon) yearly up in Dan Sai. The one mask looks as if it was related to Gene Simmons KIZZ with his army paint on.

I think I might try to make one of these scarecrows with the KISS – Demon theme; perhaps for Halloween; my next science project; would be cool to freak out the local Khon Thai farmers with a scarecrow that had tongue-wagging, blood-spitting and fire-breathing abilities. SCARY!

  12. Not much 'SuperCar' in there!

maybe I can help out a little......... :)

Kewl. Nice red looking tonka I mean toyota, ha, hard for me to say something like that having lived in Detroit for over two decades. Myself primarily go to these Thai races for the right reasons, the important things; beautiful babes; beers & bbq. Though I do dig the vehicles too; so here is my report on the Chonburi SuperCar Thailand 2009 results round 3 at Bira top 15 with pics attached. Bira circuit 2.4km , 22 laps , best lap time was 1:04 from winning Porsche, leading 15 best of 22 were running times between 1:04 – 1:14 minutes per lap. Enjoy!

  13. Thanks, great pictures! Ask myself why I was too lazy to go there!!!! :D

Love the racing atmosphere happenings at Bira, enjoy the curves drivers deal with. Hard getting there on time for me, but make it happen. Usually drive down 4 to 5 hours from the northeast on Fri afternoon party hard Fri & Sat nights in erotic Pattaya downtown; always tough getting up for the short drive to Bira, but put my mind to get there early morning Sat & Sun to enjoy the race circuit happenings. (Usually blow off the Fri time trials.) Sleep on the beach all day Mon, then drive back up northeast on Tue weel rested. Check out the curvy curves and bodywork there someday, don’t be lazy. World Peace & No worries!

    :)

  14. Another awesome racing event at Bira circuit Thailand over the weekend 10,11,12 Jul 2009, Bira located near Pattaya party town. Super Cars Thailand 2009 Rounds 3&4 comprised competition racing of modified Pick-up Trucks, Cars, Bikes, and the unrestrained Super Car races. .

During course of speed events, snapped some shots of the beautiful bodywork and competition suspensions spotted roundabouts Bira race circuit. Some choice mug shots attached. Looking towards more race atmosphere encounters 11,12,13 Sep09 again at Bira circuit, and also the coastline grandprix style racing 26,27,28,29 Nov09 through BangSaen city streets and on BangSaen beach.

    Enjoy. Go fast with class!

  15. I've e-mailed mr police S.Nirvana.S , no reply.

A teacher here in Korat translated this odd sign as, " Satan will forget about you if you drive with discipline " .

So drive safely all ; so, god of death, grim reaper, won't know you. :)

tinglish signs signs everywhere. this is thailand. :D

  16. Any ideas on how to find out the name of the owner? Or if you would know anyone, who would know?

I really would really appreciate the help..

Check out threecrownsracing.com ; bira.co.th ; supercarthailand.com . All sites have contact info, presume you could find owners names, believe there are many partners. Hearsay, someone once told me that the Prince Birabongse family owns a major stake, Prince Bira of Thailand raced Formula One in the 50s driving a Masersti.

  17. :) Exciting racing at WatthanaNakon, SaKaeo; 1,2,3 May 2009 for the first and second rounds of Thailand Three Crowns SuperCars series.

hi quick question, is there a race track in WatthanaNakon, SaKaeo?

A 2.2 km race circuit (about 5r & 4l turns) is set up on the old airport in WatthanaNakon next to hwy 33, this was the 3rd year there.

Check out www.supercarthailand.com for pictures and maps of race tracks within Thailand.
