Meanwhile, outside the courthouse, a likely Trump supporter set him/herself on fire.
https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2024/apr/19/trump-trial-person-fire
A person set themselves on fire on Friday lunchtime outside the lower Manhattan courthouse where Donald Trump is on trial in a hush-money case.
Pictures of someone in flames were carried live on television and spread on X, the social media network formerly known as Twitter.
The incident occurred just as Judge Juan Merchan was recessing for lunch on the third day of the former president’s trial for fraud, shortly after a full jury of 12, and six alternates, were seated.

While you're waiting, download John Adams, much better than the first 3 episodes of Franklin.

I don't know if things changed but he was a tough guy to get an appointment with some years back.
Yes, and there's a reason for that. Go to a bad dentist and get your appointment for tomorrow.
I think if he walked in he could probably get a 5 minute evaluation relatively quickly, like within an hour. My appointment for 3 crowns (about 1 hour) was about 3 weeks out from the evaluation.

Yes thanks
I will have to do some research in this crown process, in the email they say between 10,000 to 15,000 baht if I'm reading it correctly.
I'm not sure what sort of crown that buys?
Might be plastic for that price ?
It all depends on the dentist. The dentist that sent you the email says 5k for prep plus the crown cost. Go see Dr Warin. Get an evaluation, maybe as a walk-in, and he'll advise the proper treatments and set up the required appointments.

Yes I noticed a lot of recommendations for Dr Warin
I expanded my response while you were obviously typing this in. Please reread.

What dentist in Pattaya sent you this response? Make an appointment with Dr Warin on Klang for an accurate response. I had a broken tooth under a crown and his wife wanted to do a root canal. Dr Warin looked at it and put in a couple of pins instead in about 15 minutes. 4 or 5 years later and all still ok. I think the charge was about 500bt.
My Canadian dentist said he would have done a root canal. It's all in the Benjamins baby.
Oh, and about the type of crown, it depends on the location in your mouth. Front teeth are typically e-max and rear teeth are zircon. Be aware the zircon crowns are very strong and will destroy a normal tooth if it is in contact. I tend to also crown the opposing tooth with zirconia if there's contact. Last time the costs with my dentist was 9k for the zirconia and 8k for the e-max, all in.

Because yaba (crystal meth) is addictive and extasy isn't. Grow your market.

Funny, San Miguel Light with the lemon stuck in, was the go to drink for all the bar girls in Pattaya in the years I was there. Seems their marketing also made it in Thailand.
You trust bar girls to be able to discern good beer?

and it came with 2 free bottles of ice cold San Miguel beer.
You say that as if it's a plus. San Miguel beer, especially the light variety, is horrid. There was a Manila light that was actually pretty good last time I was there. It was hard to find. I guess San Miguel marketing has locked up the market through payoffs, etc. The payoffs have expanded to Thailand where you cannot get the palatable tiger light and singha light anymore also. Plus, the SM beer gives me a headache, while the others mentioned don't.

Tagaytay. Can be expensive though. Easy to manila where there's the best pi hospitals and the airport. And elevated so it's cooler.

A broad statement and is likely to be country specific.
For me, it would not apply.
How nice. You get to (hopefully) make money and not pay taxes on it. What country are you doing your transactions in?
Of course, if it's in a retirement account you should be able to do as many transactions as you like without paying taxes, as long as you don't take any cash out. That's what I do. The S&P500 fund is not in a retirement account. Any trades I do are within retirement accounts so this applies to me also.

You are absolutely correct of course. But there again, my Royal London Global Select is 72% US and has realized 29% in one year, which prevents me from buying the S&P Index fund (which is the right things to do).
Don't forget the taxes you would have to pay if you liquidated your fund to move it over. This is something many traders don't consider. My S&P 500 fund has been growing at over 10% a year since the 80's with no income tax paid yet. Taxes on the dividends, yes. Traders get taxed every time they move positions.

I see there's an organisation being set up for expats in Pattaya to address this problem.....they are calling it 'Fat Losers'....not too sure about the name though.
I think that's a drinking club.

Just buy a S&P 500 index fund and forget about it. I did just that 40 years ago and averaged over 10% a year ROI. No need to waste time monitoring and adjusting your investments. No broker commissions to pay, etc. Low fees too. The Vanguard index 500 admiral fund charges 0.04% a year.

Nope. The only answer is that they were charging lady drink prices for his companion who was not an employee of the bar.

I used to be a heavy cannabis smoker, when it was solids back in the late 80 and 90s ... started smoking it aged 14.
Seen the damage it does to people i.e. 2 now with schizophrenia ... so its not harmless, and that was solids which is nowhere near as strong as modern day weed. Now i'm al for decriminalising, as people want to get high for whatever reason, they always have and always will.
But Thailand has seem to have gone from one extreme to the other, with winkers walking around with spliffs everywhere.
Decriminalise it for indoors whether that be in the home or an airconditioned room, so the majority of people who dont smoke it, or want to see it ... dont have to!
I work in Holland from time to time, and when smoking was still allowed on trains, some Brit thought it clever to light up a spliff ... Within an instant a Cloggy put the ignorant fool in his place.
Do tell. What are “solids“? I've been a consumer off and on since the 70's and have never heard the term. Hashish would be my guess but that would contradict your statement that today's weed is stronger. I've smoked black Afghani hash in the 70's that was much stronger than any pot available now.

Two plead guilty to insider trading related to Trump Media merger
Two men pleaded guilty on Wednesday to insider trading in securities in the company that ultimately took former U.S. President Donald Trump's media business public.Michael Shvartsman, 53, head of Miami-based venture capital firm Rocket One Capital, and his brother Gerald Shvartsman, 46, each pleaded guilty to one count of securities fraud before U.S. District Judge Lewis Liman in Manhattan.Rocket One's chief investment officer, Bruce Garelick, is scheduled to face trial on related charges on April 29.Prosecutors charged the trio last year with illegally trading on inside information about Trump Media & Technology Group's (TMTG) (DJT.O), opens new tab plan to go public through a merger with a blank-check company. TMTG operates Truth Social, Trump's main social media platform.Prosecutors said the trio signed confidentiality agreements in June 2021 when they were approached to become early investors in Digital World Acquisition, the blank-check company. The agreements required them to keep information they learned confidential and not trade the company's securities in the open market, prosecutors said.- 2

What can substitute a money safe?
in General Topics

Have your friend “wise“ the money to your account as he needs it, and then you can give it to him. No need to keep more in hand than he needs for a few days. This would greatly reduce the pain if it is lost.
