  1. Great photos in the main article. Thank you and well done.
  2. I finally received my credit today - 16 days after it was 'processed' via the debit card. For those interested in Lazada - three days after it was 'processed' via the credit card.
  3. Nah. He's just your average AN troll trying to be funny to get likes.
  4. Finally, someone in the phone business has realised that it is easier to scam people with phone apps. I have had ad blockers, anti virus and anti spam ware on my laptops since the last century!!! I also do not get random calls from fraudsters on my laptops etc etc. An ad blocker on the phone is not the final solution but it is a start. And the governments all over the world want you all to put apps on your phones. Do people not wonder why?
  5. Then please stop sending the Burmese, that are being trafficked, back to Burma.
  6. I worked in the software industry since the 'card' age (1960's.) Apps and online sites these days only have micky mouse security and have no 'destruction' testing carried out on them. These days it is easier (and cheaper) to 'chuck it out there and let the users test it. We will fix it as we go along.' I do not use wifi on my phone, have zero apps loaded (apart from the manufacturer's ones that cannot be deleted) and live a stress free life concerning scams and security. My laptop has so much security around it that sometimes even friends cannot contact me Bliss
  7. Mrs T had a similar experience with Air Lanka. She used her credit card to book a ticket to the UK, via the online booking portal, to visit family and within hours it was used to buy stuff in the USA. Credit card company re-reimbursed her.
  8. Not all phones are password/fingerprint/face protected. None of mine are, nor have those in the past been protected. I just put a stop on the SIM card. These 'security features' are a waste of time. Real crooks know how to get past them.
  9. On line purchasing is simple if you have the physical card. That is why I have a low credit limit on my card.
  10. Nicely put. I mentioned a similar view but yours is much better said. Thank you
  11. The rule is typical of a dinosaur government not wanting anything to change. Fear of change syndrome. (it is also the reason why education here will never change.) Thailand wants and needs tourists. Tourists on holiday tend to drink at different times. Being told that they can only buy alcohol between 11.00 and 14.00 and then 17.00 and 24.00 is in opposition to encouraging tourists. Yes, we all know that we can get a beer no matter the time, but tourists do not.
  12. Yes. They need permission from the embassy to release the body for the funeral as I found out when my wife died here 7 years ago.
  13. That may be true but I am not so sure. Embassies usually contact the names that you propose in the back of your passport. If there are no names there, they will usually ask the police to see if there are living relatives.
  14. Not only fine them, but take what little assets they may have. Thailand's treatment of the Burmese people is setting a new low standard. These folk are trying to get away from a war zone and an illegal, repressive Junta. Thailand makes that almost impossible to do legally, so they have no other option than to be trafficked.
  15. This story is just very, very sad. RIP little angel. You were just trying to help mum. Hope that the sisters recover OK. The parents will probably never get over this one.
  16. From what I have seen here, yes. Sales price is always high but the amount declared for paying tax is usually lower. The government valuation is closer to the declared 'sales' price.
  17. I do not disagreed with your comments abut the man. All of the promises that he is making favour big businesses. Your wife could be correct. One house in company name. One in the name of my Thai business partner. The land is the most expensive on Samui. Before Covid - 35 mil per rai. I am not sure these days. (I paid 3 mil per rai a very long time ago and people told me that I was crazy to pay that much.)
  18. And then there is the real world. I have lived here on an island for 23 years and yes, I regularly have to replace laptops because the USB ports cannot be changed. (About every 4 - 5 years.) To me, that is a small price to pay for 23 years of living in paradise. 🌴🍹⛱️ 🍻 And I get 12 months of cleaner air.
  19. Doesn't artificial mean 'not real'?
  20. And Samui relies on it more than most but increased traffic could lead to more deaths. Samui has one of the highest death rate per capita for motorbike riders, and the safari truck conveys are infamous here for being 'reckless'. From a previous article
  21. According to the paper that must not be quoted, there will be at least 47 cruise ships visiting us this year. Oh Joy! Welcome back to the safari truck conveys racing around like mini Alex Albons, as well as all of the heavy coaches and mini van convoys. Thinking back, there was one plus about Covid here on the island.
  22. Not sure why you will not buy online from InvadeIT. I live on Samui and I buy pretty much everything from them. Computers, large screen monitors, printers etc. Never any problem. Quick efficient and courteous service (from Phuket). I bought a desktop PC from JIB shop here on the island - rubbish. Keeps restarting and the staff do not know why. USB ports are rubbish as well but we do have high humidity here seeing as we are on an island.. My laptop is now the main PC and the desktop is a back up.
  23. I have been paying Land and house tax for a few years now here on Samui. 18,000 baht + last year for two houses. The first year had 90% discount. Second year was less. Now full price. When they catch you, there are penalties for late payment. It will be back dated. It all depends if your property was registered correctly when it was built. Most weren't. Mine was. Don't blame Sreta - it was Prayut.
  24. You can check TOPS online. Cream of potato is on the list. Just need to check the local branch by logging in. https://www.tops.co.th/en/search/cambells soup
