you play the keyboard ,have you tried busking ,? 20k a month our son gets nearly that much and he shares a room at uni up in bkk ,and he is always broke.

Another useless and unhelpful response. And I am guessing that your son is always broke because he has no idea of the value of money. Unless of course he works for his money, pays for uni and rent; and I have misread the situation. If that is the case, my apologies. Otherwise, I don't like these snide little remarks disguised as humor because they are really only comments to put others down.

To the OP, many people live in Pattaya on strict budgets, it can be done. Maybe get a cheap hotel room for a couple days, rent a motorbike, and look for a cheap long-term place. Good luck.

  2. Best Steak I have had in Pattaya was at the Mantra. Spotted the ribeye in the chiller display as we were led to our table. It was a good 1.5 inch thick and nicely marbled. Cooked just right - med / rare.

The Mantra is the best I have had but if you want a reasonaby good steak a lot cheaper then Beefeater is probably your best bet.

Grain-fed at Mantra. Would like to try Blue Olive as others have suggested.

  3. I've had Guinness probably everywhere that sells it in Pattaya. Here are the best places:

    1. Maggie May's on Soi Chaiyapoon (off Soi Buakhow) - they go through a lot of Guinness and it's always fresh. It's also probably the least expensive in town as well.

    2. Jamison's Pub on the soi connecting 3rd Rd to Pattaya Klang (Nova Hotel is nearby) - fresh.

It's not going to be like the Guinness in Ireland of course, but if you are a fan of Guinness you won't be disappointed.

  4. People who defend any stupidity, bad service or rudeness to me by saying This is Thailand you must respect our/their culture. And then do not respect mine.

It's not a fair comparison. You choose to live in their world, you're the outsider. It's probably exactly the same back in your homeland toward Thais or Asians in general.

There's something refreshing about (some) Thai people's contempt toward foreigners - they don't hide it... even if they're supposed to in a business environment. At least you know exactly what they're thinking.

Never lose sight of the fact that Pattaya is a city built on the sex-trade. Just being here makes you a sex-tourist/sexpat, even if you're not. You're the lowest of foreigners by default.

This is very true. It doesn't matter what kind of person you are, when you live here you are labeled.

  5. Google "gt-rider forum", you can get all information there. You can't take a Thai registered bike into Vietnam, that was true last year and I don't things have changed. Thai registration into Lao and Cambodia are no problem, and the people working immigration on both sides are some of the nicest you'll encounter (seriously).

  6. OK - son got bit by dog - lot's of dog in LOS & not all friendly........Dog owner did the right thing by immediately tend to the wound soothing your son's fear, taking him to the hospital and getting him proper treatment ..... she didn't have to do anything - sounds like a neighbor I would like to have.....

Aircon more important than dog bite - got that

Big bad farang probably gets really upset and probably nasty toward neighbor and makes a fool out of himself by threatening to poison street dogs.....got that

Big bad farangs wife is probably a long suffering lady

Big bad farang makes other farangs look bad yet again & alienates himself (and probably his son) from rest of neighborhood - got that - big bad farangs wife has now lost face through his actions.....probably not the first time

    Lady with dog saves face

Big bad farang loses faces and looks stupid doing it.....

If big bad farang is dumb enough to now poison the dogs big bad farang will have to find another village to live in.....I doubt very much that his old/current village will miss him.....

    Hilarious! clap2.gif

  7. Its bad that the boy got bitten but as for the poison?

I agree that the dogs shouldn't always been roaming free but I reckon your setting yourself up for problems by doing that. No need for it.

They take care of the problem or I take care of it.

    That'll show everyone who's boss!

And you couldn't go to the hospital because airon techs were at your house? Is that a joke?

  8. These retired farang couples are becoming more and more prominent nd are really starting to gross me out. Gotta feel for the fellas too...I hope they have open marriages.

What an ignorant comment. I pity all the old guys here with their young "girlfriends" as they both sit through coffee or dinner without saying one word to each other.

  9. Why on earth would you buy a phone at this price (same as a computer) when on the other hand you have excellent chinese phones now, at almost half of that ? Of course the Note 3 is a great phone. But waaay too expensive !

The chinese phones have made an impressive progress during the last 12 months. Look at Xiaomi, Oppo, Zopo, Faea etc. Times are changing.

For starters, the Note 3 has 3gb of RAM, most Chinese have only 1gb.

  10. They all are exactly the same and at least they can give a good service with the big profit they make on glasses !

No, they are not the same. The girls working at Top, Beautiful, etc aren't doctors. And sometimes the electronic device isn't calibrated correctly. But profit margins are big, whether or not there is the turnover is another story, most are franchises.

  11. Another decent coffee is at a place called Espresso 99 on Theppraya past the Thepprasit intersection heading south. He uses a custom blend from BonCafe and somehow makes it work. Some baristas think a little robusta creates a better crema (important for an espresso).

Also, Benjamit will do a single origin brew if requested.

The best coffee in all of Thailand is probably Ristr8to in Chiang Mai, if anyone is headed there, highly recommended. In Bangkok, Roast isn't bad. That's just off Thonglor.

  12. Benjamit informed me that they house roast ALL their beans, not only their Thai sourced beans.

I bought some of their premium house blend (Thai beans) and the roasting date on the package was VERY RECENT.

However, when I opened it to smell it (the same day), sorry, the classic smell of freshly roasted coffee wasn't there.

Compare to Boncafe in their special bags, even if roasted months ago, it has that smell when you open it.

Oddly, I still liked the flavor of the Benjamit beans but I don't understand why no roasted smell.

Never been to Benjamit in the iniquitous Pattaya. I just use the delicious and fresh roasted Landoy beans I get by mail. Whenever I open a new sack the intoxicating coffee aroma comes pouring out and permeates the room. The family gathers around for a sniff like a bunch of juvenile delinquents trying to get their noses in a glue sack.

Coffee without aroma is like a rose with no scent.

Have to agree with JT, tried the 'premium blend' first then another one(cannot remember name) and now trying the 'Thai Arabica' all the same, no smell when you open the pack even though they have been roasted within the past week, weird. As taste goes, 'not my cup of tea' so to speak! Triedd one from Foodland that was recommended, which I ended up binning, as it was crap. Oh well keep looking!

You must be talking about the actual beans and not after grinding.

  13. Can someone ask the Benjamit people if they house roast the beans for ALL their bean choices? (Because I don't think they do.)

    Yes, they roast all beans.

    If you say so.

They say so, I've asked before. Why would they import roasted beans?
