But although I'm getting the 30 day visa and Im only using a week of it, does immigration just see that Iv'e had three 30 day visas which is 90 days or only go on actual time spent in Thailand?
-
Thanks Soutpeel, that will be good if I can do that. I just heard about the visa laws only allowing people a certain amount time in Thailand. If it doesn't effect me then that's great.

Hi, I have a Thai wife and a couple of kids and they have recently moved to Thailand while I work in Australia doing a 3 week on 1 week off roster, but I go visit them every 2nd r&r or sometimes 2 breaks in a row. I used to live there for 3 years on a non-imm o visa, but because of my situation now and the visa laws have changed over the last few years, I'm wondering if I can just arrive there on a visa on arrival (30 day visa) every 3 or 6 weeks?
I have been once for a week in August and will go again for a week in October. Can I do this over and over or should I be looking at a marriage visa again?
Thanks!

thanks lop, I guess it does. I wonder about some risks that may happen though.

When we settle in oz, my wife will send her mum some money from time to time. Would it be better to open an account with an Aussie bank and send her the card or transfere money into a Thai bank?
What is the usual way that people do it?
Cheers!

Thanks, I wasn't sure that foriegners could, but they can fortunately

I'm leaving Thailand on the 9th, but my visa runs out a few days before. Is it ok to pay the 600 bt fine or are they more strict at the airport?
Cheers!

Does anyone know what a Thai with a spouse visa can use for ID in Australia?
Can she get something from oz, instead of taking her passport on a night out, I know that I had to show ID to get into clubs even when I was 27. If anyone knows what the norm is, I'd appreciate the help.
Cheers!

I applied for my son's citizenship 2 weeks ago along with all the paper work and the hefty fee and I still haven't heard from them. So I called em up and finally got a human on the phone only to be told that it's still not ready. I was told that it was going to take 5 days originally This is a bigger problem for me because they led me to believe that it would leave me plenty of time to get his passport (10 working days) and my family are out of this appartment at the end of the month and then off to visit the missus family for a few days, then fly out around 5 Sept.
I worked it so that I had all this month to get the citizenship and passport, then make a clean run, but NO. I should have known better when dealing with those incompetent ######s
Come on Australia, get it together!

Thanks everyone for your suggestions, I think I'll just turn up with it and play the game and if they charge me for extra weight, then I'll pay it.
Cheers!

I'm going to book tickets soon for me, my wife and baby son soon, so I guess that my son's ticket will cost 10% of mine, right? Anyway, what I need to know is how to go about taking my desk top computer with me (normal size CPU and LCD monitor). I'll be over the allowed weight after we pack our suitcases, but not sure how much.
I could take it and just turn up with it and see what happens I suppose
If anyone who knows the score or have any experience with this, could you please advise me on the best way to get it on the plane.
Thanks!!

So if we go back soon (as planed) and reside, then apply, could this change the out come? I mean I understand that it's different from applying outside of the country.

The last time I was at the embassy, I asked about registering my child as an aussie (this was before his birth). They gave me the application for this. It is straight forward, but it says his birth certificate needs to be 'sighted', does this mean at the embassy or Thai foriegn affairs office?
Another thing I found out was that I can apply for citizenship and passport at once, so I wish they gave me those forms as well. Nevermind, I'll go there soon because applying for both at once would be easier.
-
Of course he can apply for the baby bonus, after his child has citizenship. I got my mother to call them and they told her that the Aussie parent can apply for it. Her words were 'you have 26 weeks after baby's birth to lodge the form with the baby's passport or birth certificate and it's $3,000', so make sure you get a passport for your kid.

What you guys are saying is right, but we got it changed in the morning and then got him a passport in the afternoon, all in his new name so it's kind of too late. We like his new name, but it's the principle. I mean if the hospital spelt one letter wrong you'd think it would be a simple matter of going and fixing the problem and coming home with his corrected birth cert, not a new name. Amazing Thailand...
When my missus told me they spelled his name wrong the first time, I just said 'of course they did, you didn't think they'ld get right did you?' Mind you she spelled it clearly and neatly in Thai... bloody idiot can't even copy it onto the computer in thai.
-
There would have been no problem if his name was spelt right first (which wasn't our fault). It's all done now, because we had to choose from a Thai name and we chose Tawan, then after that we went and applied for his Thai passport and very soon I will get him his Aussie passport and I haven't got time to mess around. I guess we will use Callum as his nick name instead.
I can put up with a lot of Thai stupidity, bit this one has to be the stupidist.
-
Thanks Samran! We got the Thai stuff done and now we will get the Aus stuff on the move.

We got our child's birth certificate back and they had spelt his name wrong which was meant to be Callum, but they spelt it Cwallum (in Thai). This was the hospital's fault for the misspelling. So today we went on a mission to her Ampher office to change the one letter, I waited at her family's house while she went there and then 2 hours later she came back with a name change document saying his name is now Tawan, which was originally his nick name.
She explained that they told her that they can't change a farang name to another farang name that isn't known in Thai language. I was pissed off and raved on for a while at disbeleif of the whole drama, this made matters worse for everyone, so we had no choice but to use this name. It seems that Thai law is very strange and I couldn't imagine this happening in the west.

My baby son was born in Thailand, I am Australian and my wife is Thai. They spelt his name wrong on the birth certificate so we will go and sort that out tomorrow. Then register him in the Thai family book. After doing this, the next step would be to apply for a Thai passport, then go to the Aus embassy and register him as an Aus citizen, then apply for an Aussie passport for him, as we are going to live in Oz soon.
Is this the normal thing to do? Do babies have passports?
If anyone who has experience with this, I would appreciate any help or info.
Thanks!

Hi everyone! Iv'e just found some spare time to post, things have been flat out lately. Thanks everybody for wishing me and my family well and thanks to jockstar for starting this thread. I'm happy to say that I am a changed man, since the moment of starting fatherhood, now I'll be worrying forever untill my hair falls out,but it's worth it.

They should ban it between 3-5pm, like the beer. That seems to be a real problem solver.

Thanks everyone, I thought this was the case, but someone tried to tell me otherwise the other day so I thought I'd check.
Cheers!

Hi, can anybody clarify whether or not a thai national can have dual citizenship over the age of 18? Is anyone familiar with thai/australian passport regulations.
Thanks!
