  1. Asians seem to have very poor judgement of speed / distance / risk / awareness / their own driving capabilities

    Aint that the truth!!
Not an Asian thing at all. It is a lack of education issue. Coupled with an absence of effective enforcement of laws. Don't take my word for it... Just look at the many moronic farang drivers who drive as badly as the Thais in pattaya. I could be equally offensive and say many Western drivers here are lowly educated drunkards who have probably been suspended from driving in their own countries.

Btw...I have an Asian friend who is an excellent driver with no accident record and who had undertaken an advance driving skills course when he turned 18, at the insistence of his dad.

  2. Is it fair to say that most foreigners calling Thailand home are an asset to Thailand? If so my argument is they should be recognized , if they want to, and be adopted by Thailand. Rather than be given a permanent "limbo" status. It's logical and reciprocal.

I don't think it is a forgone conclusion that most foreigners calling Thailand home are an asset to the country.

I have lived/worked in Singapore, Malaysia and China. Now in Thailand. Many expats here are truly in a different class altogether and asset is not the word I'd apply to them.

  3. Contrary to what most farangs on this forum think I believe China should follow the China model. There are two programmes absolutely worth watching on CCTV if you wish to be well informed about and have a good understanding of what is going on in China and the massive impact this will have on the "Rest of the World" in this day and age of what many already call the "Asian Century". One is called "Dialogue" where anchor Yang Rui discusses geopolitical issues with guests from "both worlds" and the other is "Closer to China" with host R.L. Kuhn which is mostly about the "Chinese Model" and discusses if this could be a far better system than our failed western liberal democracy in particular in Asian countries. The only thing democracy in particular in Thailand has lead to is that they have embraced the worst of both worlds.

Meritocracy is a far better system as long as it is based on Confucianism or Buddhism. Of course needs checks and balances but if it is based on traditional values it is so much easier to benefit all. Singapore is a shining example of how this can be achieved .

This is what General Prayud is trying to achieve. Most of the Thais understand what he trying to accomplish and are backing him. They also realise that so much damage has been done to the system and the economy over the last decades that this can not been done in a day. It will take at least 5 years.

In the short run -yes the Philippines will certainly outperform Thailand based on economic data. In the long run thy will lose out.

I fell over laughing when you mentioned meritocracy and Singapore and that the good general is trying to achieve that. It's as funny as his weekly Friday comedy hour.

  4. Why does he need to steal? Perhaps he should return to his country to build more wealth, before coming back here for his fun.

Many people who steal, have an illness, nothing to do with poor

Don't you just love it, how everything is an illness these days? The great thing about that is that it totally discards personal responsibility which will appeal to those that don't have it. Drinking 3 liters of soda a day and being obese? Oh, I just have this illness. Shoplifting? Sorry, I'm sick. Alcohol abuse, leading to road carnage or domestic abuse? Well, alcoholism is a disease, nothing I can do about it.

    Give me a break.

This is EXACTLY what I think on a weekly basis. Whatever crap people pull nowadays, there's an "illness" that goes with it that you can blame. I say, get rid of all these made-up illnesses and make people take full responsibility for their own actions.

Not to say that there aren't mental illnesses, but stuff like alcoholism and other self-inflicted conditions? Give me a break.

An inability to emphatise is also an illness ;)

  5. I have seen it at villa, foodland and Central supermarket. However, supply chain is a little unreliable in all these places ... sometimes to you need to check all places before you find it or wait till the new shipment arrives.

  6. IMO you can go to the night market on Pattaya tai, which has a good pet market. Can ask there

A pedigree dog (if that's what you really want) is not what I'd buy from a night market as I would worry that the pups come from unscrupulous puppy mills/factories.

Perhaps something like a Thailand kennel association may point you to reputable breeders within Thailand?
