  1. The only way things change is when the bad publicity affects visitors numbers and hits the hip pockets of local trade. Vote with your $€£¥ and tell your friends and family to skip pattaya and go somewhere else.

I have had zero visitors this year because I actively discourage them from coming here. Instead, I meet them in bkk or samui or ko chang etc. Anywhere but pattaya. The beaches here are an embarrassment.

It may not count but I do feel better that my friends and family get a better holiday away from here. It was never pristine and in fact we don't expect it, but the amount of thrash these days is most disgusting.

  2. The ABC and it's totaly biased reporting sucks. Unless of course you are a left wing socialist who can't stand to hear any conservative viewpoints. Not one single conservative reporter. The ABC dwarfs Murdoch in it's size and reach. Big cuts to the billion dollar a year organisation? What a joke. It is peanuts to an outfit that large. Anyway, just thought I'd throw in my opinion to stir the pot. Always good to hear the feedback for a little fun.

Well you obviously never watched "Insiders" on a Sunday morning - many a right wing commentator on the panel, as has "Q and A".

That, the sports , AFL, Landline and business programs have no left wing bias!

I see OZ+ is back up - no True visions here.

But feel free to rant on 555!

You mean Barry Cassidy and four left journo's against one Andrew bolt or Piers Akerman? How about Q&A? Sport and business can be found anywhere but yes ,landline is a treasure.

Forgot to say Q&A has stacked audience members and the majority of every panel stacked agaist the one conservative and biased Tony Jones. But if you like one side of every story keep watching your A B C.

I have noticed that at the beginning of every episode, they provide a breakdown of the audience's voting intentions. Always, coalition voters are slightly more in numbers. I think they purposely stack it in favour of coalition voters to negate the perception of bias.

  3. Simple answer to the op question.

Thai's do not care about anyone but themselves just watch their driving.coffee1.gif

Okay, so explain this to me. Why oh why are the supposedly clever farangs parking in narrow sois too, going against traffic on a motorcycle without helmet, double parked and blocking traffic or just stopping in the middle of the road and flashing the hazard lights as he steps out to the atm machine or a quick purchase at the 7-11?

Lots of foreigners do the above inconsiderate acts in pattaya, despite knowing better.

The answer is: inconsiderate people ( thai or otherwise) take advantage of lax law enforcement. Thais have the added disadvantage of poor driver (and general) education. Westerners, whilst boasting superior education, excellent common sense and apparently more "civilised" end up behaving like barbarians once the rules that enforce considerate behaviour is absent. Go figure!

Your talking about Pattaya, most people know what the expats are like in Pattaya. If for some reason you dont, do a few searches on TV.

Aha, so not only Thais "care about anyone but themselves" because you have now also agreed that expats are capable of similar behaviour. Consequently, I am sure if you bothered to "do a few searches on tv" you will find that the selfish behaviour that we abhor will be present in most countries with lax law enforcement and poor education. Hardly a Thai thing, is it?

  5. Foreigners paying cash for homes are first class silly. A condo for cash is silly second class . A mortgage is much more like renting with a prize after 20 or 30 years. The other stuff that you don't know anything about we can't talk about anyway.

Foreigners in Thailand can buy a home & get a mortgage? I didn't know that.
I see some condo advertising posters around Pattaya reading "foreigner finance available", but I doubt that the interest rates are very attractive. And, as mentioned, to buy like that would involve huge exposure to unknown future currency movements. I dont think it's common practice.

The Big plus of fewer Russians is that some of these conmen who masquerade as "developers" will have their income steam disrupted and hopefully the more dodgy ones will go under first. Good riddance.

  6. Thailand, the 17th province of PR China - just wait and see. Northern Laos today only Chinese is spoken, only Chinese-plated cars (Porsche Cayenne and better) roam the roads from Phongsaly to Oudomxay.

In a generation from now things will look definitely bleaker, worse and "less sanook" - trust me!

Only Chinese is spoken? I bet you they speak lao, some local Dialect, probably a smattering of Chinese and a border dialect thereof.

Do you even know how close china is? If you do, why are you so surprised to see Chinese plated cars in North laos?

Anyway, even if they spoke Chinese, so what? Laos shares a border with China and the has been a history of cross border trade, exchanges and marriage. Lots of people speak Chinese in s.e. Asia. Get over it.

Note to other Europe/Anglo centric people out there: Laos does not share a border with Europe or usa... so perhaps it would be more disturbing if English or French was forced onto them. As for the sanook factor, i believe things were not exactly sanook for the Laotians under the French.

  7. I'm no expert but, an indicator might be ...

If the Lady speaks reasonable English ... but has little or no written English.

Plus has a reasonable grasp of slang or swearing words.

    .

And overly friendly and not shy away from the affection.

Adding: like to dress provocative and have beauty enhancement such as boobs job, nose jobs, and lips injection.

    Lol..

    That's not a bargirl. That's a ladyboy !!!!

  8. I have been very happy recently with the quality of ridiculous-ness coming out of the good general's mouth. With every cunning plan, the laugh-o-meter is getting a good workout.

Good to see you are getting a good laugh out of "the cunning plans". A bit of a change from people mourning over loved ones who took their own lives because of the previous government's botched rice scheme, and innocent protesters, including children, who were murdered by the Shinawatra terrorist arm, the ThaiRouge.

Spare them a thought next time you have a good belly laugh, and think about going back to the good ol' days of Shin regime rule. thumbsup.gif

I spare a thought for them and all those who perished under authoritarian regimes of ANY persuasion. If you believe either red or yellow are blameless, then clearly the current propaganda blitz has worked remarkably well.

Who am I to wake you from your yellow tinged idyll?

Meanwhile, I am returning to my state of government-induced happiness, as instructed by the good general.

  9. My wife loves cow's milk and any Thai people that come to our house never seem to have a problem drinking it when offered.

Sorry if this question is too personal but for the sake of research, I shall ask it anyway:

Does your wife suffer from excessive gas or experiencing bloatedness or have frequent indigestion or constipation. In between bouts of mild diarrhoea?

All these symptoms stopped for me after reducing my intake of dairy.

But then, your wife and friends may not have mentioned these embarrassing symptoms or they might have a higher than usual tolerance for dairy.

  10. Half of me hopes this is a sign that pattaya will get serious about stopping businesses making unreasonable noise at unreasonable hours near residential areas.

The other half thinks it's just another "for show" performance using a convenient scapegoat who probably did not pay off the correct officer.

Only time will tell which half is correct although my money is on the second scenario.
