  1. I counted the maximum speed signs between Hayaek Chalong and Central Festival. (One way)

36 signs for 9 km. One sign every 250 meters.

Needless to say that everybody is respecting the maximum speed now.

  2. Finding dry/instant yeast is the easiest part.

I use Fermipan. Works very well.

If your recipe calls for 2 gr fresh yeast, use 6 gr. dry yeast, which equals 2 tea (or coffee?) spoons.

2 gr is meant to be 20 gr right? Check yrself out next time please.

No no Hugo, I don't need to check mself out next time please.

If your recipe calls for 20 gr fresh yeast, use 60 gr dry yeast. Which equals to how many tea spoons?

I don't want to waste any more time reading your posts. You're on my ignore list.

  4. I buy mine at Makro. It's not with the other yogurts but rather by the cheese.

    I make my own.

Tried all the yogurts as starter.

The one which gives the best results is called "probiotic", from Tops at Central festval.

1 bottle of probiotic with 1.5 lt of Meiji low fat.

My breakfast: Hahne Muesli, extra nuts, lots of fruit, milk, yogurt.

Actually I like "ham nd eggs" ,and croissants, better. But.....

  5. Yes, the "Grand Prix" has been closed for well over a year.

Many people are looking for this place.

The strong point of Lionel is cooking, not marketing.

His new restaurant is called the "Formula One". But there is no sign yet.

At the upper end of Taina Rd. there is a traffic light. Turn left. About 200 m (just before the parking of Kata Cable) you will see some multicoloured light bulbs. (That's where it is)

Every Sunday evening he has a set menu:

One day it was: Belle assiette de cruditées, Lasagne, Mousse au chocolat noire.

One day it was: Salade melée, Civet de sanglier, ...

One day it was his famous Paella Valenciana....

    To somtamnication:

Some people are happy with their daily somtam and 5 times rice per day. Or fisnchips or a burger. Nothing wrong with that. But I just can't.

I know nothing about Turkish food. But I saw that there are two new Turkish restaurants in Kata. Of course I shall go and try them.

About "stupid names" on the menu: Not everything you can't read or understand has necessarily to be stupid.

And of course you can, but you don't have to answer to any of this because I won't read it, because you're on my ignore list.

And by the way, I like to laugh also, but nothing you wrote so far made me laugh.

And another by the way: My mothertongue is neither English nor French.

  6. During my stay in Thailand, countless times I wanted to go into a French restaurant, nice change from always Italian or German/Austrian, but having a look at the prices made me change my mind. So how were the prices?

Have you tried Lionels kitchen at the "Formula One" in Kata? (Formerly the "Grand Prix") Excellent and inexpensiv. I think he only shakes hands with his regular customers.smile.png

  7. Cool, Hans, thanks.

I was wondering whether we'd have to sell our coffee maker before coming over.

    thumbsup.gif

    Central: 420 Baht (10 caps)

They have a very limited sortiment.

I like the "Cosi". They rarely have it.

As I am roasting coffee, I sometimes fill the capsules myself.

  8. I know this is getting boring, but I still wonder if there is an official list of violations and fines, for examle like this one:

    LIST OF VIOLATIONS AND FINES
Violation Code Description Fine Fine after 7 Days 9a.1 Parking in prohibited areas, including but not limited to the following: lawns, planted areas, and grounds under repair medial strips, sidewalks, driveways, and crosswalks “No Parking” areas or along curbs painted red (obstructing) vehicular or pedestrian traffic official bus stop $15.00 $25.00 9a.2 Parking in an area not designated for that specific type of vehicle $15.00 $25.00 9a.3 Operating or parking a motor vehicle of any type within a building $15.00 $25.00 9a.4 Double parking or not parked wholly within the parking space $15.00 $25.00 9a.5 Parking a reserved stall $25.00 $35.00 9a.6 Parking in a space reserved for persons with disabilities and: 9a.6a(i) Without display of placard $250.00 $260.00 9a.6a(ii) Displaying an invalid placard or special plate $250.00 $260.00 9a.6a(iii) Using a placard or special plate not issued to driver $250.00 $260.00 9a.6b Parking in a disability parking space but not forgetting or failing to display placard $25.00 $35.00 9a.6c(i) Parking in an access aisle adjacent to disability space $250.00 $260.00 9a.6c(ii) Obstructing the ingress or egress to a disability space $250.00 $260.00 9a.6d Parking in a disability space and refusing to show disability ID card $150.00 $160.00 9a.7 Parking in a loading zone longer than 15 minutes $25.00 $35.00 9a.8 Parking in wrong zone $15.00 $25.00 9a.9 Parking without a permit $15.00 $25.00 9a.10 Failure to display permit or displaying it at an improper location $15.00 $25.00 9a.11 Failure to pay daily parking fee $15.00 $25.00 9a.12 Falsifying information on an application $20.00 $30.00 9a.13 Displaying or using invalid permit or pass $20.00 $30.00 9a.14 Possessing or using counterfeit, altered, defaced, illegally transferred, or stolen permit $25.00 $35.00 9a.15 Driving on areas other than streets, roads, or parking areas $15.00 $25.00 9a.16 Exceeding the 15 mph or other posted speed limits on campus $20.00 $30.00 9a.17 Reckless driving $20.00 $30.00 9a.18 Failure to heed directions of a duly authorized officer $25.00 $35.00 9a.19 Failure to heed directions of an official sign and/or symbol $15.00 $25.00 9a.20 Moving violations of the City & County of Honolulu Traffic Code (not otherwise specified in these regulations) $15.00 $25.00 9a.21 Parking or operating a bicycle or moped in violation of the City & County of Honolulu Traffic Code (not otherwise specified in these regulations) $15.00 $25.00 9a.22 Failure to make a complete stop at an official “STOP” sign $20.00 $30.00 9a.23 Transporting a bicycle, moped, or motorcycle in an elevator $15.00 $25.00 9a.24 Damaging campus signs, parking gates, or parking appurtenances* $25.00 $35.00 9a.25 Repeat or flagrant violation of parking regulations $25.00 $35.00 9a.26 Motor vehicle making excessive noise and/or causing a disturbance $15.00 $25.00 9a.27 Moving any barricade or parking within any barricaded area $15.00 $25.00
  9. If the vehicle has been ticketed the fine is stated on the ticket and an official receipt will be given at the police station.

If the person whose vehicle was targetted was not issued with a ticket and pays the officer unofficially then the "fine" is negotiable between the 2 parties.

    Does not work that way.

The vehicle is not ticketed but chained, fine to be paid at the police station.

The chain went through the backwheel and over the saddle. Between the saddle and the chain was the ticket. Stating the fine of 500.-- Baht.

So all legal and above board.

I see them here (my shop is in Thanon Ketkwan so I'm here every day) quite regularly, always chained, but never noticed the ticket. Also when I forgot to move the bike once or twice from one side of the street to the other I was chained, but don't recall the ticket.

But thanks for the correction, good to know.

Everybody calls it 'soi' BTW, but according to the official paperwork it is a thanon.

The coppers seem to be getting worse.

Yesterday they chained 2 bikes together. (Maybe not enough chains and locks?) One bike was exactly on the yellow line (In front of Richi's restaurant.) The other one was over.

However, I still wonder, if there is an official list of violations and fines. For example like this one:

  11. I think 500 Baht is the standard amount. Ketkhwan or Katekwan is not a soi but a thanon BTW.

I used "Phuket's first ever street directory". Streets of Phuket. An Image asia publication. They call the street "Soi Kat Khwan".

Google map calls it "Ket Kwan"

Centara Kata Resort on the same road calls it "Ked Kwan".

    Whatever.
