  1. Some of the replies here are truly pathetic.

There is zero evidence as to who was responsible for this bombing - it could be the junta itself...

If Thaksin said nothing, you would condemn him. If he speaks out, you condemn him.

If Thaksin said nothing, you would condemn him.

    No, I would not.

  2. Yes. It appears to me that the driver hit the gas instead of the brake.

I've noticed that his is a recurring cause of accidents. The woman driving through the front door of the 7-11 comes to mind.

So here's a question about what we (from different countries) might have been taught during our driver education lessons.

    • Do you now (or were you taught) to use one foot for the accelerator, and the other for the brake?
    • Or, do you use the same foot for the accelerator and the brake?

I was taught to use only one foot, thereby eliminating the possible confusion of which pedal to bear down on. It seems to me that this would be the safer method.

Taking note of Thai drivers with whom I've ridden, however, I've found that both feet are typically used.

And I've heard that if one is in competition race car events, both feet are used, but those guys and gals are quick and skillful in body and mind.

    Comments?

My father thaught me the "heel and toe downshift". Long time ago.

  3. Thanks for that, will get on the case soon I am a retired baker but still dabble a bit. Usually I get my flour and pre-mixes from an Austrian buddy who runs a bakery in Bangkok. Unfortunately he is in Europe now and unavailable for a bit. This type of flour is suitable for diabetics and I have been asked to bake some bread using it.

    NB:

Just looked at the website, pricey 160 - 210 THB for 250g packs, put that in perspective, I buy good quality rye flour for 530 THB for 5kgs.

Would you please let me/us? know how you make bread for diabetics.

    I bake sugarless cookies:

100 gr oatflakes, 100 gr cornmeal,100 gr whole wheat.

some dried fruit (50 gr of each): cranberry, raisins, prunes, apricots, dates

some nuts and seeds(50 gr of each): almonds, hazelnuts, walnuts, pistachios sunflowerseeds, pumpkinseeds.

1 egg, 2 spoons Rice-oil, 3 teaspoons baking soda, some water

1 hand full of stevia leaves

mix in the KitchenAid. Form cookies. Bake at 180°C for about 20 min.

Not the best cookies I ever had. But OK.

  4. Food I like to cook:

    Arepas

    Asperges a la Flammande

    Chili con carne

    Fiskebollar

    Fresh fish with Vegetables (steamed)

    Lentil soup with Frankfurters

    Minestrone

    Pasta alla Putanesca, Stinkini, Carbonara

Polenta with Goulash or Osso Bucco

    Ratatouille

    Röschti

    Stuffed Bell peppers or Tomatoes.

I like to watch and follow some videos of: "Chow Ciao"

  5. I counted the maximum speed signs between Hayaek Chalong and Central Festival. (One way)

36 signs for 9 km. One sign every 250 meters.

Needless to say that everybody is respecting the maximum speed now.

  6. Finding dry/instant yeast is the easiest part.

I use Fermipan. Works very well.

If your recipe calls for 2 gr fresh yeast, use 6 gr. dry yeast, which equals 2 tea (or coffee?) spoons.

2 gr is meant to be 20 gr right? Check yrself out next time please.

No no Hugo, I don't need to check mself out next time please.

If your recipe calls for 20 gr fresh yeast, use 60 gr dry yeast. Which equals to how many tea spoons?

I don't want to waste any more time reading your posts. You're on my ignore list.

  8. I buy mine at Makro. It's not with the other yogurts but rather by the cheese.

    I make my own.

Tried all the yogurts as starter.

The one which gives the best results is called "probiotic", from Tops at Central festval.

1 bottle of probiotic with 1.5 lt of Meiji low fat.

My breakfast: Hahne Muesli, extra nuts, lots of fruit, milk, yogurt.

Actually I like "ham nd eggs" ,and croissants, better. But.....

  9. Yes, the "Grand Prix" has been closed for well over a year.

Many people are looking for this place.

The strong point of Lionel is cooking, not marketing.

His new restaurant is called the "Formula One". But there is no sign yet.

At the upper end of Taina Rd. there is a traffic light. Turn left. About 200 m (just before the parking of Kata Cable) you will see some multicoloured light bulbs. (That's where it is)

Every Sunday evening he has a set menu:

One day it was: Belle assiette de cruditées, Lasagne, Mousse au chocolat noire.

One day it was: Salade melée, Civet de sanglier, ...

One day it was his famous Paella Valenciana....

    To somtamnication:

Some people are happy with their daily somtam and 5 times rice per day. Or fisnchips or a burger. Nothing wrong with that. But I just can't.

I know nothing about Turkish food. But I saw that there are two new Turkish restaurants in Kata. Of course I shall go and try them.

About "stupid names" on the menu: Not everything you can't read or understand has necessarily to be stupid.

And of course you can, but you don't have to answer to any of this because I won't read it, because you're on my ignore list.

And by the way, I like to laugh also, but nothing you wrote so far made me laugh.

And another by the way: My mothertongue is neither English nor French.

  10. During my stay in Thailand, countless times I wanted to go into a French restaurant, nice change from always Italian or German/Austrian, but having a look at the prices made me change my mind. So how were the prices?

Have you tried Lionels kitchen at the "Formula One" in Kata? (Formerly the "Grand Prix") Excellent and inexpensiv. I think he only shakes hands with his regular customers.smile.png
