  1. Violence is possible, but there will be no civil war. Nations don’t go to war over whether they like or hate specific leaders. They go to war over the ideologies, religions, racism, social classes or economic policies these leaders represent. But Trump represents nothing other than his own grievance with a system that refused him a second term and is now beginning to hold him accountable for violating the law. In addition, the guardrails that protected American democracy after the 2020 election – the courts, state election officials, the military, and the justice department – are stronger than before Trump tested them the first time. 2. Nikki Haley on Monday called Donald Trump “reckless.” Tim Scott described the federal charges brought against him as “serious allegations.” It was far from an outright condemnation. But their comments marked a significant departure from the two presidential contenders’ initial reaction to Trump’s indictment. Just days after Republicans rushed to Trump’s defense, their remarks served as a sign the tide could be turning in the Republican presidential primary field’s willingness to go on offense against the former president. “If this indictment is true, if what it says is actually the case, President Trump was incredibly reckless with our national security,” Haley said, adding that her husband serves in the military. 3. UPDATE: ‘I Want Blood’: Heavily-Armed Trump Supporters Say They’ll Protest Trump’s Indictment Supporters of former president Donald Trump are planning mass protests at a Miami courthouse on Tuesday, following Trump’s indictment last week. Many are promising to come “well-armed.” “MAGA will make Waco look like a tea party,” a user with the screen name 1776take2 wrote about the planned protest on the pro-Trump messaging board known as The Donald, which was instrumental to the planning of the Capitol riot. In addition to the angry comments and plans posted anonymously on far-right message boards, Republican lawmakers, politicians, and right-wing pundits have also used incendiary language about Trump’s indictment. “We have now reached a war phase. Eye for an eye,” GOP Rep. Andy Biggs tweeted to his 730,000 Twitter followers. READ MORE https://www.vice.com/en/article/5d995k/trump-indictment-armed-protests-miami
  4. Donald Trump has arrived in Miami for an historic federal court appearance on charges he stole classified information and lied to block efforts to get it back. He touched down in his private plane on Monday afternoon, one day before his initial appearance in front of a judge. Supporters gathered outside one of his golf clubs where he is due to spend the night. Mr Trump faces 37 felony counts over documents found at his Florida home, as well as claims he obstructed justice and made false statements. 5. A UK conspiracy theory newspaper sharing calls for trials and executions of politicians and doctors has links with the British far-right and a German publication connected to a failed coup attempt, the BBC can reveal. The Light, which prints at least 100,000 copies a month and has more than 18,000 followers on the social media site Telegram, grew to be a focal point of the UK conspiracy theory movement with its anti-vaccine, anti-lockdown stance during the pandemic. In its pages and on its corresponding Telegram channels, the Light has shared hateful and violent rhetoric towards journalists, medics and MPs, as well as platforming far-right figures accused of antisemitism. 6. Alex Soros is taking control of his father, George Soros', $25 billion empire, the financier and his younger son confirmed in an interview with the Wall Street Journal Sunday. The big picture: George Soros had said previously that he didn't want any of his five children to take over his Open Society Foundations, but the 92-year-old philanthropist told the WSJ that he's now handed that and the rest of his empire to his 37-year-old son because "he's earned it." In their interview, Democratic megadonor Soros said the pair "think alike." But his son added: "I'm more political." 8. Do citizens have a right to a healthy environment? In Montana they do. The state constitution reads, “The state and each person shall maintain and improve a clean and healthful environment in Montana for present and future generations.” And a group of young people are using that language to sue the state over its energy policies. In one of the country’s first climate change lawsuits, a group of 16 young people in Montana alleges that the state has violated their constitutional right to “a clean and healthful environment. 9. Fox News has sent a "cease and desist" letter to Tucker Carlson as he ramps up a competing series on Twitter that drew a combined 169 million views for its first two episodes, Axios has learned. Why it matters: The contract battle between Fox and its former top host — who was taken off the air in April, after the network's historic Dominion settlement — has mighty repercussions for the conservative media ecosystem. With "Tucker on Twitter," Carlson and his growing production team are working to elevate Elon Musk's social media site as a news platform. 15. Gov. Ron DeSantis is in Oklahoma delivering a political speech, but that doesn’t mean disturbing news isn’t happening closer to home. Rep. Anna V. Eskamani tweeted on Saturday video of Nazi demonstrators outside of Disney World. A second image, from Twitter user Shannon Watts, contends that “two dozen white supremacists are outside the main Disney World entrance in Orlando right now, marching with signs featuring Gov. DeSantis’s face, swastikas, the n-word and homophobic slurs.” READ MORE https://floridapolitics.com/archives/617620-nazi-demonstrators-brandish-ron-desantis-2024-sign-at-disney-world/
  16. Climate change is remapping where humans can exist on the planet. As optimum conditions shift away from the equator and toward the poles, more than 600 million people have already been stranded outside of a crucial environmental niche that scientists say best supports life. By late this century, according to a study published last month in the journal Nature Sustainability, 3 to 6 billion people, or between a third and a half of humanity, could be trapped outside of that zone, facing extreme heat, food scarcity and higher death rates, unless emissions are sharply curtailed or mass migration is accommodated. The research, which adds novel detail about who will be most affected and where, suggests that climate-driven migration could easily eclipse even the largest estimates as enormous segments of the earth’s population seek safe havens. 17. UPDATE: Nicola Sturgeon calls arrest a 'shock and deeply distressing' after release without charge After she was released Ms Sturgeon said in a statement: "To find myself in the situation I did today when I am certain I have committed no offence is both a shock and deeply distressing. "I know that this ongoing investigation is difficult for people, and I am grateful that so many continue to show faith in me and appreciate that I would never do anything to harm either the SNP or the country. "Obviously, given the nature of this process, I cannot go into detail. However, I do wish to say this, and to do so in the strongest possible terms.
