the 18-135 is a great lens, don't take a cheaper one

I fully agree with JR, students in Cambodia are 100 times better than the ones in Thailand, more serious and motivated.

But the students in Thailand are crap and all suck (in every sense of the word).

To move to Cambodia on a LT basis you need to have guts and be ready to face all possible scenario, LoS is much simplier

i just got back from cambodia, I stayed for 1 week and let me tell it is a road to nowhere and hel_l, definetly a 3rd world country and everybody will ask you for money everyday! super hot, dusty, polluted like you cant imagine, i took a plane out of there faster then you can say speedy gonzalez!

I enjoyed a week's vacation there. Different strokes for different folks I suppose.

One member said the food was crap. I have to disagree. I found many nice restaurants both in Phnom Penh and Siam Reap.

TROPO, IF YOU LIVE THERE you have to buy groceries and cannot go to restaurant every day.

My statement was not on a tourist point of view, my statement was on a long stay point of view, in thailand you can buy fresh veggies, seafood.....imported meat (Australian, US,.....) all EU/Aussie/USA products, fresh Bufalo Mozzarella made by Italian immigrants better and cheaper than in Italy....every kind of food at every kind of price.

In Cambodia this is not possible.

Then Cambodian food in some nice small and cheap Cambodian restaurant in PP and SR is still possible but not on a LT

To answer the direct personal question of JR Texas:

1) Cambodia is good to enjoy young gals without big troubles given that you keep very low profile, you don't start any business, just play your dirty sick habits and pay when requested from local MOB.

2) start a business: I know that this is not the real question which was n.1 but I answer anyway: Cambodia is the wilder of the wild west, if you run a biz, little one, low profile, small income in a touristic area, you may survive and pay for your gals, boys, and the water and electricity bills. If you become somehow bigger, you will be offered to sell everything for 1$ and your skin to the local MOB/Police/Military.

To note as follow:

Pol Pot gang made an agreement with the gov (they actually never surrended), now they run businesses.....and for people who were torturing, killing, raping....their own people till few years ago.....you're are just some overweighted flesh to play with.

Police is military and viceversa, if you piss someone you will wake up with drug in your house, and perhaps a dead underage gal dead in your bed.....you can then deal with the local courthouse for a deal.

Food is crap, highly polluted and far away from thailand. Water.....but if you have been there you already know, 3 years ago was exactly same as today, the only difference is that the official data on HIV were not revealed or better not fully understood.

Low profile for a few weeks every year to satisfy your academic needs, forget about business, forget about friends, forget about safety and good food.

ps. I agree that the macho culture of Chile and a bit of philippines ain't a good match for some kind of hobbies, avoid China unless you give 1$ to your family to pay the bullet and claim back your body.

harsh, but sadly true. I don't live in Cambodia, but I have a close friend which was loser enough to try it for a couple of years, Cambodia to me is the new frontier for maniacs and losers (indeed most of times these 2 qualities are common in the same person).

Mobi...I dont know anyone at the top of my head.....but can you give more details as to what sort of work this person is required to do? physical fitness I assume so the person can help the old man round the house? walk about etc? cooking, cleaning and other such household chores? and the person would need to speak english?

looking at the amount he is willing to pay....perhaps he can contact one of these agencies that provide nursing/maid help?

once I know some more details I will try to ask some cleaning people in the office if they know someone who might be able to do the work.......
