  1. Renewing a drivers licence at Chiang Mai is a piece of cake, you should have no problem.

Just don't show up at the DMV wearing shorts...

    Or no pants at all!

Every time I've been there has been with flipflops and shorts (but collared shirt) and it was a piece of cake.

Though, yesterday I do notice a sign in English stating that it was a government building and appropriate dress is required.

    Whatever that is...

  2. I went and enquired this afternoon as my license expires soon.

They won't give a 5 year license with an elite visa

Initially I was told I needed a long term visa, though when I replied that I have a long term visa, the lady was quite firm stating it has to be a non-immigrant visa...

So it seems I'll be going through the renewal process *again* next year.

    and to confuse things

I got new temporary licenses today, but valid for 2 years???

I think it was a stuffup.

  4. take your calculator for Pete sake.

    2000 air Asia 2 ways

    450x2 night in Thailand (hotel)

    350 bahts hotel in Lao.

    1000 bahts Lao visa

    600 tuktuk, minivan....

2000 Thai visa (with 2 entries)

Total 20'000 bahts a year. (average)

when you have 500k, it s easy to get visa back to back.... no need to pay for these elite things. Trust me! money is king in Thailand.

as for hotel, my hotels are top class and super clean . 3 stars minimum

no doubt, you enjoy the serenity of your holiday home in Bonnie Doon also.

  5. And when it comes to reducing haze specifically, I'm not 100% convinced that it is the rain itself that has the clearing effect. Typically when it rains it means air flow from a different direction. The airflow may be the significant thing, not the rain itself. (I don't knows this for a fact, just wondering based on observing haze clear with changing winds, also without rain.)

    Follow up to self. :)

Case in point: Today. No rain whatsoever yet it feels like hot season weather today. And a remarkable drop in PM10 and associated clearer views. All without the need for any rain.

it was the fire trucks! Lol.
  6. it seems we starting to have a little gang trying their best to poor scorn on another long term visa available to foreigners , who wouldnt want the hassle free life for close to 6 years instead of the pain of hoping for another extension on a yearly visa through agencies that might end tomorrow

I think they are working their hardest to sell the elite visa. I recon the next thing they have to say is a tuktuk is better than a new limo to get to and from the airport.

    Seriously daft.
