  1. Hi ,

I am working offshore 4 weeks on / 4 weeks off, meaning I spend less than 90 days in the kingdom over a period of 6 months.

I am staying in the country using the stamp on arrival since almost 7 years with this rhythm which seems to be fine regarding the law.

Last time I went through the airport customs, officer told me that the law changed and from now on, one was allow to stay only 90 days per "year" in the kingdom using the stamp on arrival....

They let me enter the Kingdom but wrote a warning just under the stamp in my passport....

Since then, I am looking all over the different official Thai website and all other kind of information source to know if there is a new law but so far I did find nothing!

How can I be sure that such a new law has not been voted?

If nothing changed, how can I prove it to the customs officer?

    Best Regards.

I got the same thing back in January, made a note under the stamp that it would be my last, and they made me sign it.

As is previously stated, the official "law" has no limitation in the number of exempt stamps.

    But,

I couldn't be bothered, knowing I was going to be continuously hassled/interrogated about this. Not the nicest thing after coming off shift and spending 8 hours in the air to get to Thailand.

I now have an elite visa.

  2. To the OP:

Are you absolutely sure that your husband is presently experiencing severe depression?

I often tell my wife, when things start getting on my nerves that I feel like doing myself in at times, but I`m never really serious. If so, has he told you what is making him depressed? Or could it just be something to do with your relationship that is making your husband feel down in the dumps? If that`s the case than marriage counselling would probably be more beneficial and appropriate. Does he not sleep well, or drink or smoke or both excessively? What other signs does he display that suggest he is severely depressed? Perhaps his behaviour is quite normal when he is around other people?

I would advise first speaking with your husband in-depth to get to the root of the problem prior to submitting him for psychiatric treatment, for a problem that maybe easily resolved with a little tea and sympathy, care and understanding.

one of the common misconceptions about depression is that there is no external cause. Nothing to do with circumstances, relationships etc.

    That's why it's an illness.

That's one of the most difficult things to deal with when suffering, as its known there is no rational reason to feel depressed, it kinda compounds also.

  3. Its up to your birthday.. Hence you do it before your Birthday you get the year..

After you get year plus x months..

not what happened, I got a solid 2 years March 2015 to March 2017. My birthday is not March, far from it.
  4. Renewing a drivers licence at Chiang Mai is a piece of cake, you should have no problem.

Just don't show up at the DMV wearing shorts...

    Or no pants at all!

Every time I've been there has been with flipflops and shorts (but collared shirt) and it was a piece of cake.

Though, yesterday I do notice a sign in English stating that it was a government building and appropriate dress is required.

    Whatever that is...

  5. I went and enquired this afternoon as my license expires soon.

They won't give a 5 year license with an elite visa

Initially I was told I needed a long term visa, though when I replied that I have a long term visa, the lady was quite firm stating it has to be a non-immigrant visa...

So it seems I'll be going through the renewal process *again* next year.

    and to confuse things

I got new temporary licenses today, but valid for 2 years???

I think it was a stuffup.

  7. take your calculator for Pete sake.

    2000 air Asia 2 ways

    450x2 night in Thailand (hotel)

    350 bahts hotel in Lao.

    1000 bahts Lao visa

    600 tuktuk, minivan....

2000 Thai visa (with 2 entries)

Total 20'000 bahts a year. (average)

when you have 500k, it s easy to get visa back to back.... no need to pay for these elite things. Trust me! money is king in Thailand.

as for hotel, my hotels are top class and super clean . 3 stars minimum

no doubt, you enjoy the serenity of your holiday home in Bonnie Doon also.

  8. And when it comes to reducing haze specifically, I'm not 100% convinced that it is the rain itself that has the clearing effect. Typically when it rains it means air flow from a different direction. The airflow may be the significant thing, not the rain itself. (I don't knows this for a fact, just wondering based on observing haze clear with changing winds, also without rain.)

    Follow up to self. :)

Case in point: Today. No rain whatsoever yet it feels like hot season weather today. And a remarkable drop in PM10 and associated clearer views. All without the need for any rain.

it was the fire trucks! Lol.
  9. it seems we starting to have a little gang trying their best to poor scorn on another long term visa available to foreigners , who wouldnt want the hassle free life for close to 6 years instead of the pain of hoping for another extension on a yearly visa through agencies that might end tomorrow

I think they are working their hardest to sell the elite visa. I recon the next thing they have to say is a tuktuk is better than a new limo to get to and from the airport.

    Seriously daft.
