I went through AA insurance brokers (no charge) who got me covered with David Shield who also covered a pre-existing condition which the others wouldn't touch. The Pacific Cross rep lied about me being covered for my pre-existing condition and I cancelled the policy as soon as I found out and obtained a refund.

I suggest you contact AA insurance, tell them what you want and they will do the running around for you, I also covered my family through them through another insurance company where 2 of the 4 kids didn't have to pay for cover which saved us money and the brokers generally know who is a good payer or not.

If you need details PM me and I will send the brokers details across for you, no deductibles with David Shield as well and better than most insurers as far as I am concerned.

I am always worried when using brokers as I feel they will recommend the company that pays the most commission, not necessarily that is best for me.

But anyway, now  that I have done my own research, I will give them a try. I have been using the local AA brokers for my car insurance for at least 10 years now.

    Thank you !

  2. Help with Pros & Cons Choosing a Plan Please

I am male, 56 yo. Looking for inpatient only coverage.
So I narrowed my shopping list to these 3 Health Providers:

April (Thai), Essential. 16M THB Max, $2,179/Anum
Cigna (UK), Close Care, 16M THB Max, $1,890/Anum
Pacific Cross (Thai), Maxima+, 10M THB Max, $1,454/Anum

I don't want to make the choice purely on the premium. I think
the April quotation is with zero deductible, where the other
two have a roughly 1,000 USD deductible.

Otherwise, they all appear to be very close in coverage.

I am a bit worried about Pacific Cross coverage, as coverage for
many items, is listed as "Normal & Customary Charges". Only some
items are "Fully Indemnified". This makes me think they will limit
the payments to whatever they think is "normal".

    Any advice, opinions, recommendations?

    Many Thanks,

  3. Hello,

I have a couple of these Garden Umbrellas (pictures below).

The Umbrellas are a couple of years old and still in good shape, except

that some of the mechanical joints are failing (pictured).

Does anyone know by any chance where to get replacement joints/winder ?

    Many Thanks,

  4. Hello,

I am looking for a Water heater/tank with sacrificial anode (About 30-50L).

In the past I used "Alpha" brand, but now can not find them in any local stores or online.

Any suggestions/recommendations would be appreciated. I am in the Pattaya/Chonburi area.

Attached are pictures of the tank and anode I used in the past.

    Many Thanks,

  5. Hi !

I have two water tanks, which I fill up from my well and then use a constant pressure

    system to supply my house.

This system has now been in place for about 15 years, without any major maintenance.

My concern is that bacteria might build up in the tanks. I have no evidence, or any

other suspicions, just thinking to much. ????

Does anybody clean or otherwise maintain their water tanks ?

    Any additives or so ?

Somebody suggested to me to add a cup of 50% Hydrogen Peroxide to each tank every

months to kill any bacteria (the tanks are 2,000 Liters each).

    Thanks,

    rudi

  6. Thank you Bagwain, very helpful info.

So my pool guy came buy and brought a large bag of Copper Sulfate (1kg). He said it works just

as well as the Algaecide at 1/6 the cost.  Now, 3 days later, the pool is all clear, looks like new.

He supposed to come by today again and bring some Calcium Hypochlorite too shock the pool.

I will research replacing the sand in the filters. Thanks to all for the help !

Black algae is particularly tenacious and can be hard to combat. It must be scraped out with a wire brush. If left too long it will take root deep in the grout and the pool will need regrouting.

Chlorine will prevent the growth of most algae, but only if the pH and chlorine levels are rigorously maintained. However, the main purpose of chlorine is as a disinfectant.

Products exist to combat black algae.

Thanks for your reply. I was actually looking at your guys website ????

What chemical is better, the "Black Algaetrine", or the "Shocking Chlorine" ?

    Thank you !

  8.

My  pool is under attack by Black Algae ...

It's a salt water pool, generating the proper amount of chlorine, and otherwise balanced.

I read that shocking the pool once a week and extensive brushing is the trick to

    get rid of the Algae.

Wonder if anyone has recommendations what to use for the shocking (and where to get

it in Thailand). Also, any other tips highly appreciated!

    Thanks !

In Pattaya, you can get OK quality meats at AKA, and TKM foods.

Both have about the same selection of local and imported meets, at about the same price.

If you want something better, you can order from Paleo Robbie (but don't get their patties).

They ship from Bangkok, and have better selection imho.

Makro (south Pattaya) has a good selection of (NZ) Lamb.

Apparently this is a tax on renting the property, since it is owned by a company.

I too just got a bill for the last 10 years. I don't mind paying it,  but 10 years at

once is a substantial about I have a larger house with pool.

Has anybody used a law firm to help them with this issue in Pattaya ?

    Thanks,

I think Rudi has been mowing rocks.  ????  I wonder how that top blade got into that position?  Do you replace the whole disk?

555, yeah I wonder as well. I have a full time guy to takes care of my property, he is in charge of bending and grinding the blades ! ????

I'm thinking to just order a 455 baht 4 blade kit of Lazada ...  I think that should do it. I had the Mower for well over 8 years now, if I remember correctly, this is the first time we are replacing the blades.  They are really worn from sharpening them I think ...

  12. Hi Guys and Gals,

hope this is the right place to post this.

I'm in Pattaya, and need to replace the blade on my lawn mower.

I've been to all the obvious places, like Home Pro and Thaiwhatsado.

Can't find anything. Any suggestions ?

    Many Thanks,

  13.

I have taken my girlfriend several times to europe ( Schengen Visa). We are not married, I have

two kids who are half thai from a previous marriage to a thai.

Both times I hired a company in BKK to do the paper run for me (we live in pattaya). It was worth

the 10k baht fee they charged, no headaches, no nothing, they prepared her for the interview and

both times we got the visa. The company was Swisshelping Point.

With my Thai wife I did it myself at my embassy, back than (10+ yeard ago) it was much simpler ...

If your daughter is half Thai, you should get her a Thai passport as well. But that's a completely

    different issue ...

    Good Luck,

  14. I took my kids several times out of the country. Their mom and I are divorced, but on good terms.

The Kids have dual citizenship and dual passports.

I have never been stopped or asked for "permission". They look more Thai than farang as well,

but are a bit older (12 and 14 now). But even 5 years ago, we did not have any issues ...

They also went on several international school trips, by just bringing their passports. All teachers

on the trip where farang. I do not know if the school had some sort of papers ...

PS: My kids have my last name in both passports ...

  15. There is no easy answer to that question. To a first order the sidelobes near a parabolic dish are almost entirely dictated by the gain and shape of the antenna, which is basically a function of size, and whether it is shrouded. A very high gain, shrouded parabolic antenna will have much lower leakage right next to it than a low gain unshrouded antenna. To a lesser degree, it is also dependent on frequency, which is in turn dictated by the company they are leasing the spectrum from and what frequencies they were assigned by the government.

Also, the pattern is extremely unlikely to be uniform. It could very well by 0dB at one point and 20dB just a few meters over.

Within the main beam, like all electromagentic waves, it is determined by the inverse square law. The beam will propagate out in a cone whose angle is determined by the gain of the antenna. Similarly, on the receiving side, the antenna will receive signals in a cone that propagates outward from the antenna. Where these two cones meet will create a circle of a maximum radius, which taken together with the 2 antennas creates an ellipsoid. This called the Fresnel zone, and the antenna installers will need to make sure this zone is completely clear of any obstructions.

If you want to create problems for the microwave tower, you might want to find out where it is going to connect to, determine the center point, and try to build a large obstruction right in its path. If it is a large distance the obstruction might not even need to be that high to interfere with the signal. A completely legal 15 meter object might just do it. (A big metalized mylar balloon could even be used to do the job.) That will force them to either raise the height of the towers to clear the obstruction, hopefully making the whole idea not cost effective, or to relocate the antenna elsewhere.

Chances are though, the distance is going to be very short and your chances of disrupting the signal enough to halt the project are minimal. In this case, you probably don't have many legal options unless you want to spend alot of money and get permission to build a highrise condominium in the path.

One of the best parts of owning property in Thailand is that there are few zoning laws. One of the worst parts of owning property in Thailand is that there are few zoning laws....

Thank you for the excellent explanation Monomial ! I appreciate it !

I don't really want to obstruct it or make problems for them. I suspect it is in a

planning stage at the moment, as they just put up the signs.

I will visit an attorney tomorrow and explore what legal right I have.

If that all fails, I'll have to research what I can do to protect myself and my kids.

I have to young daughters, and my concern is mostly for them.

  16. MODERATORS:

This topic was moved from the General Forum to the Pattaya forum. WHY ?

I know I stated that I am in Pattaya, but the issue I brought up and the request for help may be of

interest beyond Pattaya. I was looking for legal "advise", and I believe Pattaya does not have it's

    own private laws ?

Please move back to General Forum !

  17. ^^ Nimby! that's a new word for me, guess it serves to make people feel guilty if they complain!

Anybody who will gladly accept a cell phone tower emitting electromagnetic radiation right next to their home would have to be nuts!

Off course its completely harmless isn't it, the powers that be have told us so, believe so at your own risk!

low energy, non-ionising radiation from a cell tower will cause you no ill effect. Sticking that cellphone to your ear on the other hand......

Not true. Cell towers "talk" to each other and a main station via Microwave transmissions. This is what worries me.

In my opinion there needs to be a "safety zone" around cell towers.

There are very few microwave links left on cellphone towers now. They are actually aimed from point to point ie from dish to dish and they are not of high power.

The normal connections nowadays are fibre optic links which are more reliable, far less subject to weather and can carry far larger amounts of data. There is no need for a safety zone at all.

I agree with you, that most towers (especially in the more populated areas) are most likely linked with fiber.

Unfortunately, my location is a bit remote, and I seriously doubt they will pull fiber here.

Depending which direction the "next link" is, I might be in the direct path of the Microwave antenna.

Does anybody know the spread radius of Microwave antennas ?

e.g. what percentage of radiation would hit the ground and at what distance ?
