  1. This is definitely not for people on a budget, and I suggest KittenKong and others on a budget

go and seek out the 60 Baht breakfasts - plenty of those in Pattaya.

Me and my family enjoy the better quality food, and so far have been enjoying breakfasts at

Back Fabrik at least once a week for the last 4 weeks ...

We have also bought several different breads and other items, and are extremely happy with

the quality. In my opinion the prices are very fair for what I am getting there.

  2. In Thailand there are no consequences for Thai drivers. Any fine is a joke, 300-500 baht

at most, regardless of how many people get hurt. There are no consequences of running

away, even if they catch you, it's still 300-500 baht.

Thais do not have a sense of responsibility or honer, it's part of the culture. The police has

little interest to catch the driver, only farang with no power and influence where hurt.

Now that the camera man was there and there is a bit of media attention, they will wiggle

a bit and pretend they are trying to solve the case.

But just like with the Koh Tao circus, nothing will be done ...

    Good Luck ladies !

According to the photo above, one eclair (which is not a very expensive type of pasty) at this bakery costs more than an entire cooked breakfast with a large mug of tea at the Irish Wolfhound. And that breakfast is not bad quality by any stretch of the imagination.

I can get 2 hamburgers AND a bottle of water at 7/11 for about the same price as a chocolate eclair!

Only a complete fool would pay that kind of money for a pastry!

What are you guys talking about ?

    A Eclair is 65 Baht.

  4. ok, I know it is a bit far fetched ... but I am so tired of these plastic Christmas Trees ...

I'm pretty sure that they can be grow in norther parts of Thailand.

Does anybody know if they are available somewhere in the Pattaya/Chonburi area ?

    Thanks !

  5. Took the family to the PIPO Pony Club of today.

It's off HWY 7, between Sukhumvit and Hwy 36.

    Ticket Prices:

    Farang: 250 baht
Thai: 100 Baht (also for farang with thai drivers license).
    Children: 50 baht

Large covered area with 4 fenced off sections with Miniature
horses. It's like a "padding zoo" type of a place. You can buy food

to feed the horses as well.

One of the areas did have 2 full size horses.

Additional tickets can be purchased to ride the miniature horses
(200 baht for 4 rounds). The riding was passive sitting on the horse

while the horse is being lead by an attendant.

We tried to get some information before getting inside (talking
to the ticket girls in thai), but they where unable to describe it before
    entering the place.

For my family it was a big disappointment, as both of my girls (10 &
12 yo) are experienced riders and where hoping to do some horse
back riding (like on full grown adult horses). The ticket girls did say

there was horse back riding inside ...

This place might be enjoyable for families with younger children, who

are not experienced in handling horses ...

You see foreigners take massive advantage of lax law enforcement. They see Thais doing something unreasonable and unsafe, then foreigners take it further. Aggressive foreigners are the worst. Then come the teenage males on scooters going twice the speed of traffic. Then older ladies with kids who never look anywhere but straight ahead. \

To the OP, driving a car, you will never win. No matter how right you are.

I disagree with you. My experience has been that the police is quite fair

and reasonable, and will fault the motorcycle if he is at fault.

My recommendation, in case of an accident, is to keep cool and let police

and your insurance settle the matter.

As to the situation you describe, I find farangs on motorcycles to be the

worst. It's like they have a death wish or something. Just slow down and

    avoid them ...

    luudee

PS: Your attitude in case of accident matters alot. Do like the thai smile and

explain the situation in a calm manner. I sometimes see farangs yelling at cops

and I bet those will seldom get the fair treatment they seek ...

  7. Many thanks to all replies !!!

I drove up to the Hardware House on Hwy 36. WOW ! It was like being back home,

except the prices where quite reasonable. I was amazed !

    Got a 60m Fish Tape for 700 baht ! Awesome !!!

    Again Many thanks guys !!!

    luudee

  8. Anybody knows where I can purchase a Fish Tape in Pattaya, or online in Thailand ?

    Many Thanks !

    luudee

PS: I have been to a bunch of the large HW store around Sukhumvit and they did not have it. (Thai name is Lud-Roi-Fai)

  9. Many people have the impression you must see a GP (general practitioner) before

you can see a specialist. This is a rule introduced by many medical insurances, and

has nothing to do with hospital or doctor practices.

If you have a private medical insurance or pay out of pocket, you will be allowed to

see the specialist in any country without seeking a GPs "approval" first.

I beet most of you go directly to a dentist (that's a teeth doctor for the less fortunate here),

    without seeing a GP.

My original point was that the "Receptionists" have NOT been nurses, and where trying

to direct me to the kids department for some paracetamol (have been there before, know

    the routine).

If you go to the BPH web site they clearly show the different specialities, and any potential patient(one with reasonable intelligence) can in many cases easily find a specialist to deal with his/her problem. And then arrange an appropriate appointment with the specialist. It is patently wrong to suggest that in most instances that it is necessary to only be "referred" to a specialist.

As to the OP, his thread is one of the most annoying that i have read in a long time. Had he bothered to behave sensibly he could easily have find a specialist at BPH to deal with the specific problem.

Nobody forced you to read a thread you don't like.

How did I not behave sensibly ? After dealing with clueless receptionists, a nurse *did* point me to the

right direction without any issues. You obviously missed my point all together....

for any others as ignorant as I it means a 'foot doctor' or chiropodist

    PRK,

I did not intend to make anybody feel ignorant. I suspect you do NOT work at BPH ?

(Don't feel bad) Often times we are not aware of the proper terminology until we are

    in need of it ...

But I would have expected the staff at a hospital like BPH, to know what a Podiatrist is !

It is not "just" a foot doctor, but a specialist ! Big difference in my opinion !

Obviously, my expectations where wrong ... sad.png TIT

    Best regards,

I can't believe we spend 30 minutes going through what I would have expected to be a simple process.

So rather than trying to impress everyone in reception with your diagnostic skills, why not just go to the child health clinic or the orthopedic specialist who probably handles everything a podiatrist would and let a real doctor decide who she needs to see.

Lol... Or maybe he's not trying to impress anyone and just has some experience of his daughter's condition and does not see the need to go down the "So where does it hurt...?" route.

He's not seeking some kind of freebie here. He's a paying customer (or he will be as soon as he sees a doctor) so why should he not be entitled to request to see a doctor with a particular field of expertise that he believes is relevant to his daughter's condition?

Or have you been held up in the queue to see your podiatrist by people like this in the past...?

Jimmy, thank you so much for your support. Suradit is obviously a Thai with the typical Thai education , and can't

imagine that a parent actually understand whats wrong with his daughter (or son) ...

For a Thai it is difficult to understand that we Farangs with higher education do actually understand some medical

practices and needs ... just like thai like to go to their "Moo doos" for advice, we try to get the proper treatment for

    our kids ...

Suradits post is as close to a troll post I can imagine, uneducated and judgmental ...

    Don't hold this against him/her ! ;-)

    Thank you !

  14. I broke my own rule today ....

Took my 10 year old daughter to BPH today. Walked in to the
general reception area, told the receptionist we would like to
    see a Podiatrist.

She asked whats wrong, we explained. She says "mai pen rai",
just go to the kids department (my daughter is 10).

I told her we want to see a specialist, I want a Podiatrist.

Empty looks. She goes talks to another receptionist, we repeat
the above game 3 times with different receptionists.

Finally a nurse joins. Again, she has no clue what I want, but is
smart enough and goes over to the computer (Googel search
    and types in Podiatrist) !

I pulled out my smart phone (I have a very good translation
application), looked up Podiatrist, and showed to the nurse.

Now, I got "Mai Mee" !

After long back and forth, they sent us to a Orthopedist.

    1) Some check in person (not a nurse) was going to decide
who we should see (luckily I had some basic idea).

    2) They have dozens of Russian translators, but nobody who
understand the basic English terms ?!

    3) No Podiatrist on staff at all ?!

I can't believe we spend 30 minutes going through what I
would have expected to be a simple process. TIT ...

Does anybody know of a decent Podiatrist in Pattaya area ?

    Thanks !

  15. The purpose to buy out competition, it to create a monopoly and than charge whatever you want.

I don't have a complete picture of all the available hospitals in Phuket, but from this article it would

appear that the BHG is creating a monopoly.

Once the choice becomes "which one of the BHG hospitals will I go", the prices will go up ...

Here in Pattay, we have the choice of 3 independent hospitals. One from BHG. BHG is rumored

to build another hospital here in the next couple of years. Might be a good stock to buy ...
