Using Trump as click bait for Thai taxing  / TRD, is about the silliest way to get anyone to watch, except Trump haters.  Who probably wouldn't have the intelligence to understand any of the content, if any of it was relevant to TRD.

To be honest I never thought about that but your probably right.

I just thought it was a good video especially calming folks against what he terms tax pimps who should not even be allowed to work in Thailand & probably don't "legally"

From the start it was these types fanning the fear mongering flames before anything official is even released

    Hi everyone,

The transportation office wouldn’t let me renew my driving license without a residence certificate. Unfortunately, the TM-30 isn’t enough, and immigration told me that I can’t get a residence certificate with a tourist visa.

If anyone has any suggestions or knows of a solution, please let me know! I don’t mind traveling to other provinces if needed, but if it’s too much of a hassle, I’ll just get a long-term visa and put an end to this saga. I just want to make sure I’m covered in case of an accident.

Thanks so much for all your help!

I wonder if you might just get a International Drivers Permit/License  Especially if you also have a license from your home country. They are good for 1 year although I *think* only 90 days continuous? But if your the type that comes & goes may be fine for you

Although I am not aware of any type of visa in hand being required you never know with Thailand....

To obtain an International Driver's License (IDP) while already in Thailand, you can contact the Department of Land Transport (DLT) in Thailand and apply for an IDP through them; you can visit a branch office nearest your location, and will need to provide your existing driving license, passport, and passport-sized photos to complete the application process.

Key points about getting an IDP in Thailand:
    • Issuing authority:
The Department of Land Transport (DLT) is the official body responsible for issuing IDPs in Thailand.

    • Required documents:
You will typically need your original driver's license from your home country, passport, and recent passport-sized photos.
    • Application process:
Visit a DLT branch office and submit your application with the required documents.
    • Contact information:
If you are in Bangkok, you can contact the DLT directly at: 02-271-8888.

    What "crucial updates"?

With absolutely bugger all new from the RD, the situation is unchanged.

    Exactly !

I was always amazed at Thai's in other countries opening Thai restaurants then ripping off their fellow Thai's by employing them at sub min wage etc.

This is no different...A bunch of Falangs open a tax business in Thailand & try to rip off other Falangs with fear mongering. At this point this is all it is fear mongering. If & when the RD department ever makes all of this mud clear then these guys should be saying such things

Yes they need to start checking their own people which they can't even do. So how in the hell are they going to monitor expats

That is a pretty funny comment. Yes they cannot really check their own people as most are self employed there is no way to check them.

But, to say "how in the hell are they going to monitor expats" ??

Well that is very easy isn't it? Expats actually need to check in with the government & ask for permission to stay. If/When they make this part of that permission well then you will have a decision to make. Comply & prove or leave

  5. It is probably fine either way but......There is an old saying for precious metals that goes....

"IF YOU DON’T HOLD IT THEN YOU DON’T OWN IT"

Many reasons why but the original reason for holding metals is many don't trust paper (fiat currency etc etc) so why would someone want a certificate.

Secondly many claims of companies that supposedly hold things leasing them out for various reasons.

But in your case your using gold as a hedge & trying to beat inflation or better the 2% bank rates so again probably fine for you in any case

You can use a property management company to handle all of that if you don't want to deal with it.  They charge a fee but takes a lot of the headache out of it.

You could also invest the money, like a CD or something similar in your home country, and use the interest accumulated from that to finance your stay in Thailand.  Lots of options!

Yeah I have really been tossing this scenario around a lot lately.  While the rent income would be nice... these days you need to factor in as you say possibly a management company fee, then the increased property taxes since it is no longer your primary residence but a rental. This in our case can be 10x as much property taxes per year compared to what we pay now. Which would basically kill 2 months rental income. Lastly the increased homeowner insurance because it goes up as landlord insurance vs primary homeowner insurance.

As you say could sell & invest. I have looked into the US Treasury Notes for a term of 2, 3, 5, 7, or 10 years. Safe & at the end of the day at current 4.25% rates the interest on home sale would not be much different than rental income after expenses + zero headache. Of course there is no guarantee for rates in the future but you can lock in 10 years worth on the notes

So what's the difference living say in Australia on $900 AUD a month and Pattaya/Philippines Asia/Thailand

Mainly the safety nets given to you as a Aus citizen

If you were really injured in Australia you would be treated at any ER

In Thailand you will need to show how you will pay BEFORE any real operations are done.

They will stabilize you at a govt hospital while you arrange your Go Fund Me & deteriorate

There are many SHTF scenarios where you would survive in your home country & not elsewhere

I am not saying you can't go live anywhere on your 900AUD/20k baht per month I am just saying reality can bite. It hurts a bit less where you have citizenship because they usually do take care of their own

Oh, so if you were in Joe's position, you would not help out your son, is that correct.....?  🤭

101% correct & all my children know that as they were taught that.

Meaning don't do the crime if you can't do the time

Actions have consequences ...Your actions your consequences

What kind of father does Joe look like now?

I’ve been thinking a lot about the current visa requirement of 400,000 baht in a Thai bank account to qualify for staying with your family.

I have always thought it was their way of knowing you at least had access to money when needed.

Since ( as of now) they still do not require health insurance it is not a bad idea for them to require a deposit.

The only surprising thing actually is as other have said you only need to have it deposited for a couple of months.

I have long since thought that someday health insurance will be required & since many do not qualify due to preexisting, age, etc etc That they may one day require those without insurance to leave that deposit in place year round as a backup should emergency medical be required.

Would at least cut down on the " Go Fund Me"  insurance policies
