IF your wife is Thai & she is experienced traveler fine...IF not highly recommend Korean Air (usually 2hour easy connect in Incheon )or even Japan airlines. (Tokyo )
Reason being yes China Air lands in Taipei but it is a hurdle even for experienced travelers.
You need to take a Tram from one terminal to another & also time is tight when you see the lineup to get thru mid checks at Taipei

Surprisingly few answers to your actual question.
I am not self insured but if I had to I think a minimum of 800-1 million baht & better 2 or 3 million baht same as most available policies
BUT...the problem starts at the point of using that self insurance. Is your situation such that it is no problem losing that to a medical cost? Is it easy enough for you to then refill that self insurance fund back to full?
TBH I think the only folks who are truly able to self insure never even consider asking how much to set aside (That is not me either 😉 )

Your post suggests that the government is trying to disguise Value Added Tax by using another name, what name do you claim that they are now using? Value Added Tax is an undisguised tax.
Did you read the quote? "but continue to exempt import duties. " All I was saying is call it this or call it that a tax is a tax...But never mind it was never meant to be so serious 😉

However, plans from the Finance Ministry intend to enforce VAT collection on all imported goods, regardless of their value, but continue to exempt import duties.
A rose by any other name is still a stinkin tax 😉

After many many years here I am afraid this is no longer usable. It is a pity as there is useful info gained & given here. But as of today it was almost impossible to use. Even as I type this I am being slammed by pop ups. I am using the newest version of Chrome browser in case that is of any interest to support?
I will check back from time to time but as of now this is no longer usable

After a hundred years ( slight exaggeration ) living around CMai I also am selling .
Wow I know you have been in CM a long time. If I may ask was it the burn seasons that finally convinced you? In any case good luck to you. We have sold on our own before in CM also but it was just a condo & was sold very quickly just by posting on FB

When I was in the same situation I did not need a return ticket. The airline is the only one that asked when departing USA. When I said I plan to retire & extend to yearly they had no further questions.

Can anyone name a single reason how a United States taxpayer would benefit from sending funds to Ukraine and Israel? There is no reason. It’s obviously a heist. This is what they do. I mean are we seriously going to argue that Americans would not benefit more from spending this money at home? That argument does not even exist! And yet people still buy into it.
Hear Hear ! 👏

because apparently I linked the bank using two micro deposits
Same thing I am experiencing. Supposedly for the same reason my bank / micro deposits...yada yada
Also it has something to do with Wise partnering with PLAID
Now they want you to basically allow another firm your data/info in my case my Bank/Credit Union is not a part of that
If you check with PLAID & see I think you will find your bank also is not...But on the good side...Even though the transfers now take 5-6 days they do honor the rate originally quoted..At least so far they have
"That’s why Wise has partnered with Plaid to allow you to move USD funds from your Wise account safely and seamlessly — to Chime, Mercury, Robinhood and 6,000+ more apps and providers."

Despite that, I had to pay the fine to get my tax-sticker.
A classic TIT moment
Things like this do happen & you cannot reason & logic your way out of it...Trust me I have tried 😅
At the end of the day right or wrong means nothing during a TIT moment
It the price of the Thailand admission ticket (no pun intended)
No ticket... no show 😉

Out of the question these days, due to US intel banking laws change a few years ago, only way to use the BBL ABA in New York is for SSA payments and treasury payments such as US Tax return.
Thank you for that info! It had been years since I used that domestic wire to BKB NY
I do remember reading something about when they had a change to ACH systems or something along those lines...using the IAT? format etc

What fool would want to live forever?
We all have a 'sell by date'. Accept it.
Someone may have already mentioned it but
Yes we all know that I'm sure but when most folks talk about longevity it is about being functional for what ever time you do have.
Surprising how many sit around saying their old so their done. The last 5-10 years of their life they may be in more & more pain to just do simple things.... then they will wish they were done 😉

Just wondering but Wise charges about $142 for 800k Baht / 21,800USD
What does a SWIFT cost these days for same amount? Lastly is Domestics Wire Transfer from US Bank to Bangkok Bank NY out of the question these days?

Thai immigration will see his history on their screen regardless of whether he has a new passport or not
Just out of curiosity I wonder if that is true? Since a new passport has a new PP number.. not that it matters was just wondering. I guess these days the biometrics page has all the info regardless of PP number

WTF?
IFR = Instrument flight rules are rules and regulations to govern flight under conditions in which flight by outside visual reference is not safe. IFR flight depends upon flying by reference to instruments in the flight deck, and navigation is accomplished by reference to electronic signals.

This is so funny I had to post....
So as I said they answered my one email with that canned answer to which I replied....just wondering why the difference of 40k baht to stay with Non Thai vs 400,000 to stay with Thai...perhaps it is an error?
Their reply
Please stop spamming our email.
In this case I would suggest to apply for NON-O staying with Thai family which is YOUR WIFE family.
555 I ask one question of their canned answer & that is spamming hahahah Two emails total! Hahah
Then the answer is to just use the 400,000 baht visa to visit 90 days... PERIOD
Not the usual 40k baht (which BTW you can use to visit non Thai's???) yeah I will jump right on that 😉
Stick a fork in me..It'll come out clean... I'm done 🤣
