  1. posts get removed all the time with and w/o notice. we gotta deal with it

I don't now if it was offending or not but I think everybody has the right to say what he wants.

If the Moderater like's it or not.

    (Basic Human Rights)

unfortunately on the net and on given websites the hosts can edit what they please. This is not a human rights issue in any way. Perhaps a freedom of speech issue but the site and all sites can posts and edit or delete what they please. It is their right. It is their site. I'm not saying I agree with it, it is merely fact. I found this out years ago on AOL when they booted me off their service for calling a guy a moron

  2. Hi all, today, May 17, 2004 I received an e-mail from the Thai Consulate in Los Angeles, Calif. concerning an enquiry I had e-mailed them about this 3 million Baht investor visa. It is NOT a current visa. It was ended October of last year according to them. The Thai Consulate site in Chicago still shows it with current exchange rates (about 42 baht per dollar) but no date and I think the exchange rate was indeed around 42 Baht last year.

The LA cosulate suggested I try [email protected], which is the site the Thailand

Board of Investment. FRom what I get from this is they've upped the ante to

8-10 million Baht for an investor visa. I guess I'm just not rich enough to qualify for an investment visa, oh well.

Not what the imm dude told me 2 months ago. In fact 2 imm dudes at bkk imm indeed said that the 3 mil visa is in fact valid

  3. It seems that the B visa is really the ONLY option for your circumstances, but this still requires you to make some changes to your lifestyle and to spend some money to achieve this. (Ie setting up a Thai company etc etc).

Yes, I know there seems to be a 'gap' in the types of visa that are available. A visa for the under 50s, not working but affluent would be great!

But this visa type does not exist! (except Elite Card). And the Thai government is not going to introduce this type of visa just because we go and moan at them.

I'm trying to be realistic here. I'd love to change many things in the world, but I can't, so I must try to work with the existing situation.

I do believe that you can only get a B visa from outside Thailand. And the ease of obtaining such a visa (in your cirumstances), does vary from consulate to consulate.

Have you thought of falsifying your age? Do you look 50? :o:D:D

falsifying his age? now that isn't even funny

  4. You do not have to work in Thailand to have a B visa. It is a business visa, not a work permit. I have a B visa because I own businesses in Thailand, but that does not mean I actually work in them.

I move my money into Thailand as and when I want. I don't consider moving it out again because that defeats the purpose of bringing it in in the 1st place. I don't consider 'juggling money' to and from different countries to benefit anyone except yourself and the banks who charge fund transfer fees.

But why on earth should you benefit from any special deal? This is Thailand!!! Each month I bring in over 1 million baht of my own money to Thailand, with some 25% of this being given directly to Thai charities. The majority of the rest is invested in new business ventures which will employ only local Thai nationals. I don't ask for any special favours and I don't expect them. I'm happy that I can stay for a 90 day period, end of story.

I stick with my last comment. You are selfish. Maybe you could start by thinking about how you could use your money or your own talents to directly benefit the country that you choose to live in. Maybe that means working here or running your own business or working voluntarily.

Anyway, at such a 'young' age and retired you must be bored sick :o

Seemone43, you must excuse me whilst I get on my knees and bow to you man. I am not worthy, nor is Livinlos. He only spends 80k a month here. LivinLOS, how dare you dude? You only spend about what the top 10% of farangs living in Thailand spend as most live in their 3000 baht closets. Gimme a break. livinlos is doing exactly what he wants to do. Leave the guy be. It's his life. If he doesn't want a thai wife, condo, job, business etc while he resides here, power to the dude. He is a major contributer to thai society with his hefty monthly spending (which you say is minor; my toucus it's minor), and he's doing what he wants rightfully so. Not what seamone43 wants him to do

  5. There is a way. COMPLY and have a proper visa.

OK then if its so simple how ???? (please see http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=10082) if your under 50 and dont want to marry a thai even if your spending 20 - 30k USD per annum in Thailand brought in from outside you still have no legal way of maintaining residency shy of 'wasting' 3 mil !!!

I dont want to be on tourist visa's... I contribute to the Thai economy... I dont need or want to work (been there, done it)... So please explain how I comply without leaving the country !!!

Hey dude, I 2nd your post. So easy for these dudes to say just get a proper visa. Welcome to my nightmare

  6. Speaking as a "goody two shoes"and erudite the reason I don't overstay or do anything that will get up the Thai authorities nose is for the same reason I did the right thing when I was in business i.e. obey the law.

It's quite clear that the authorities here just the same as they can do in the U.K or anywhere else for that matter can do a lot more to me than I can do to them so why ask for hassle?

This still does not answer the question why overstay in the firstplace?

Why overstay? A reason given to me by someone was to evade visa run hassles. In 10 years he overstayed several times paying fines each time which were a lot less of a hassle than dealing with the Poipet border every 30 days. This was his way to deal with it. He no longer does this but got away with it for 10 years. power to him as I said. I overstayed myself by 50 days once and paid my fine and left. I then came back a week later. Scaremongers here go wild when they hear the overstay word. Overstay happens for a variety of reasons: some legit, some not. I refuse to criticize someone who has overstayed. It is his problem. He will deal with it. Let it go. I do not personally plan on overstaying in the future but the one time I did the officer was quite pleasant as he took my 10,000 baht fine. no biggy, jack

  7. And the overstayers are something else.

    Why overstay?

You get people on here asking what are they to do as they have overstayed by months the odd day I can understand but months?

What did they do let it slip their memory?

No sympathy from me I'm afraid.

hey look the fact is that there are many people who overstay by months and even years. it's a rock hard fact. I've read here on the forum so many goody 2 shoes who cannot believe that someone could overstay. "oh my god" "I have no sympathy" "how could they do it" . The fact is that it has happened, happens and will happen for a multitude of reasons so deal with it. I personally could care less if someone overstays 2 years. I am not shocked cause I have heard it all. Maybe they don't want to deal with the lousy system...so be it. I've heard about people overstaying 2 years, then leaving and coming back in 2 weeks and overstaying another year. Power to them if they can pull it off

Just how would the ideal system work in your view Bob ? Tailor make the laws to suit each and every situation and individual ?

I believe the current system is fine only that it neglects persons under 50 who do not work and are not married. If these people have the resources to live here they should be allowed to do so without the 3 million baht requirement. I know people under 50 not working who have monthly incomes from foreign sources exceeeding 65,000 baht. No reason these people should be denied a 1 yr visa at all. So for example a guy retires at 47 and has no option other than to cough up 3 million baht into the uncertainty of a thai investment? Sorry but they've got to come up with another option for said persons, IMHO

  8. So is there really no solution for someone who wants to stay in thailand spending large amounts of money brought in from overseas ???

Just because I have retired at 30 must i still always leave the country every 90 days or pay income tax on money that is not earnt (to expensive)... I am also unwilling at this point to convert 3 million into baht but would leave 3 mil in Euro in a thai bank as long as I had complete and unfettered access to it (can send back out of Thailand after)...

    Surely there is a way.

Welcome to club dude. We don't have too many options. Check 3 mil baht investor visa or just head out every 3 months. it aint fun but not that bad. 3 months is a long time. people like us sit on our hind qtrs a lot so what is big deal of bolting every 3 months. gives us something to do

  9. Dude, on the matter of trusting your wife's good will on the house situation; I don't want to go there. I am very biased in that area. I wish you heaps of luck however. I'd say you will be at her mercy but you've got odds that it could work. As for personal effects in England; I would have one huge tag sale and rid yourself of most stuff and replace here

  10. And the overstayers are something else.

  11. Two months ago I was stopped by the traffic police for not having my passport on me. They said that the law is all foreigners must carry their passports or face 3000 baht fine or a month in prison. <At least he gave a choice :D > I ended seltting the matter by giving them 1500 baht because I think the two traffic police were just looking to make money and do not no the law because I never saw them again and further more they wanted me to give them my ATM card to withdraw the money themselves, which I laughed in there face :o and said no. After I went to ATM to withdrawl the money myself they took the money and ran away from their police job. :D

    Dude, you were scammed

  12. Does the 3million have to sit in the account? Or can you move it elsewhere. 3mil is a lot to have sat in a low interest account.

you can have it in Thai Gvt bonds. Don't think you can do much else with it. I've scoured the net for specific info on this 3 mil baht investment visa but have found nothing. I would call bkk imm for any more specifics. report back here if you learn anything more. No one in this forum knows anything about it because it is new and not on the net and they are not in the situation being married, working or retired and/ or all of above

  13. :o I would like to know how can a foreign male in Thailand apply for Thai citizenship? I know that if a foreign male has a residency card he can get citizenship for staying in Thailand for serveral years, but I am not sure about the amount of years. Does anybody know? Are there any foreign males with no Thai blood that have Thai citizenship out there? I know that Thai Government is very racist against giving citizenship to non-thai blood unless they are females. The citizenship process of Western countries giving citizenship to Thai nationals is much more easier than a foreigner being granted Thai citizenship.

The Thai Gvt racist? How dare you. Not in this 2 tier society dude

  14. I know this isn't Thailand related, but it could be a sign of the times for Thailand in the near future. Japan is now keeping overstayers, even for one day overstayed,

in holding cells for between 3-5 days, deportation and a 5 year ban from the country (San Francisco Chronicle, May 10, 2004, pages A1 and A14). The people cited in the story were not criminals at all, just young students studying Japanese

    language.

you are right. that has absolutely nothing to do with Thailand. I'll take a break anytime. That's like comparing Thailand's visa on arrival with the USA

  15. I've resided in Thailand for years using tourist visa's and it has gone smoothly. There have been rumours recently about this might be closed off in some cases and I would like a backup plan so as not to get trapped outside. My situation is this; I don't work at this time, am under 50 and single. My stay is completely legal to the best of my knowledge and I spend around 80K baht a month all drawn from foreign banks and do have (or even want) a thai bank account.

The next best choice for visa (correct me if I am wrong) seems to be the non-immagrant (IB?) investment visa. What I gather is if you transfer 3 million baht into a thai bank account from abroad you can get a one year renewable visa. I'm looking for any insights or experience with this as well as resources I can learn more about it. If there is a different type of visa that would work, that would be good to know. Thanks for any advice.

Coder, I am in exact situation as you. We have no options other than tourist visas and this 3 mil baht into thai gvt bank visa. Marriage is not option. I leave that for most of the other people in this forum. Nothing like pressure to marry a thai just to get a visa. that is BS. If I wanted to get married, I wouldn't come to thailand to do it. If you want to get that investment visa and are on a 60 day visa, deposit your cash and go to 2nd floor bkk imm building to the change visa office with proof of acct. that dude will issue your visa on the spot. this is what he told me. I, like you, have no desire to open an acct here and use ATM as you do, spending about the same amount of cash. If you open your acct, be sure it is a thai gvt bank like krung thai. I have a feeling you will do as I do and continue living on tourist visas unless fecal matter hits the fan. Just get your triple entry tourist and you get 9 months to kick back then do it again. I feel pretty goddamn legit!

  16. Hi

YESSSS!!!! I am finally going to Bangkok to work after waiting for a year for this opportunity!!! Will be working there for at least 5 years with a subsidiary company under Shin Corp on expat terms...

Would like some advices from all those here already working in BKK on what I should be expecting when I come relocate in June this year....

I'm currently working for one of the leading banks in Singapore and am a Singaporean Chinese...guess my HR dept will settle all my VISA and Work Permit documents for me (am I right?)...so what else do I need to do in terms of all immigration paperwork?

Also where I can go find an apartment???...my company will be paying for my rent but will only give s fixed amount every month...anything more, I have to top up..currently amount not known yet as I am still negotiating with HR...

Anyone know of any good and honest realty agents in BKK who I can touch base with? How much is a good condo near Rangsit or Phayatha area? Am looking for a place with 2 bedrooms (kitchen optional)....

As I am still undergoing negotiations with my HR...can anyone here advice me what is the "industry standard" expat monthly allowance in Thai Baht for relocation in BKK? How much is a fair and reasonable amt for the monthly allowance?

What else shld I expect in the expat package for relocation to BKK? Medical insurance ? Travel expenses? Air tickets home a year (how many times)? Income Tax payment (have opt to pay my home country's tax)?

    Many thanks in advance!!!

    Cheers
