when you take min bus from airport to town, the bus takes you to agent who robs you for 120 baht extra from the 180 baht charge to hat jai. this was explained to me in detail after I called the agent on it in a semi pissed off rage. so i can say that bronze rider was taken for a 300 baht ripoff ride to penang. hope he enjoyed it

The ariport mini-van shuttle service is 60 baht to hat yai town. A taxi is 200. From Ht yai back to aiirport is 60 baht or 180 by taxi. I don't see where the confusion is.

From Hat Yai town to Penang on a mini-van is around 280-300 Baht, one-way.

    BR

What I am saying is that there is no need to pay more than 200 baht for mini bus from hat jai to penang. anyone charging more is clearly overcharging

  3. Costs-Approx

Airport to town 200 Baht from taxis outside the doors or 60 Baht for mini van. There are no buses.

Tell taxi or mini van you want a mini van to Penang. They will drop you off at one or two mini van places that take people to Penang. The cost to Penang is around 300 Bhat, approx. The drive is 3 (three) hours but comfortable and the vans are in good condition because they have to observe Malaysia's higher road safty standards.

ok on different issue of mini bus from hat jai to penang, the cost is 180-200 baht. anyone charging you more is robbing you. this i can promise. do not pay more than 200. I cased the place on this issue and i know. 200 baht tops. hat jai AIRPORT to hat jai sure is under 100 baht BUT hat jai city to airport is different story. I left hat jai at 5 AM to airport and paid 150 baht

  4. Now all we need is a border immigration bus that comes to Pattaya or wherever instead of us going to the border every 3 months.

Better to bring the Imm bus to Pattaya and save everyone the trip to the border.!!

get a valid long stay visa and save yourself a trip to the border :o

some people arent lucky enough to meet the rigid requirements to get a 1 year visa. that's why so many people make visa runs. can you dig?

  5. At my local border crossing, they know my name and if my son is making the crossing, they ask about him and make sure he isn't sick. They whiz me through as fast as possible without even a second glance now. They are very friendly people.

how about that. just think of all that unnecessary paranoia

  6. wow!

thanks for the help, this site is awesome!

ok, so everything looks to be ok so far.

still a long way to go before its all set in stone, planning etc to make it right

    .

as for the girls we run in to, im not after anything sex related at all, well i am obviously, but not by paying for it.

i have to say, after visiting thailand, i think all the stories people tell about it being sleazy etc are total rubbish, i didnt see any prostitutes on corners, knocking shops etc. none of it

the closest we saw to a brothel was a load of skimpily clothed women (it was hot :o hehe) asking if we wanted massage! lol so i said no every time.

Sorry, i hope you dont mind me asking Chiang Mai Thai, what is the situation for employment in Chiang Mai for farang? i saw a few working in shops but on the whole they were few and far between

    Thanks

ok let's not get obseqious now

  7. Not sure what the truth of the matter is but i have been here for close to a year on 30 day permits. I still haven't had any questions about income or anything. Am I prepared? Yes every time, but the only monkey business going on at the border crossing is the 20 baht fee payable when you cross into Thailand from Malaysia. I suspect if push comes to shove, that fee might increase to 100 or 200 baht for people with more than 3 entries.

what fee are you talking about?

  8. This question has probably been answered time and time again but here it goes again.

Im british and have just returned from thailand, my American buddy is still out there and wants to come to england for a couple of months, hes something like 35days overstayed on his Tourist Visa. What does he need to do to get out the country safely, i know i read some where that u just have to go to the airport with the money to pay for the maximum overstay fine, but with all these changes i could be wrong. Also will there be any trouble at the airport i.e cos hes overstayed he wont be able to come back or anything like that???

Your help would be much appreciated.

    Regards

    :o

He can head to airport and fork over 7000 or more baht charge. they will be happy to receive his cash. No need to worry about scare hype

  9. Whoever heard of that law in any country? You loose it, your embassy screws you, you don't carry it, the men in uniform nail ya? Wheres the logic? Remember, the passport serves only as a travel document, not as a document to confirm your identity. I know this topic has been posted here before.....but still, makes me curious what people think...... :o

    no need to carry it

  10. Today did a run for 30 day to Poipet. The last week or so been reading all the hype generated by a certain website . I have been a walker since November, with a two trips through Don Muang thrown in, still not sure if leaving by air constitues "back to back " . Oh well.

Had , no problems at all. The 6 am start and my father-in-laws aspirations to Nigel Mansell status was a bit hairy . He got us there from Ban Kapi to the border in a bit over 2 hours .

Anyways,i am one of those fools who use the touts to get me through . Pretty obvious they are in partnership with the Cambodonian officials and because of this u get in and out a ###### of alot quicker, cost more baht of course!! Didn't have even have to walk past all the casinos to get stamped out after getting the visa. They did everything on the spot .

Oh well, going back through Thai immigration, had no problems. Asked Thai officials and the touts about walkers, said " no problem " . Only drawback was all the Thai tourists exiting who do not seem to understand one line is for aliens :o oh well thier country I guess .

    Cheers

Dig the report dude. I'm using the touts next run based on your story. My time aint worth a few measly baht. Those touts get pennies and save your behind mega aggravation. no need to super keenyow cheap charlie over the deal like I hear about all the time

  11. ...Swiss rules are generous too. Just for your curiosity, here is the process for a fiance of a Swiss citizen (male or female no difference) wanting to marry in Switzerland.

    1) The Swiss fiance get a marriage form from the district and send it to the fiance in Thailand

    2) The Thai fiance get a birth certificate, a single certificate, a residence certificate translated and bring them with the form to the Swiss embassy. There, sign the form. The embassy will send all the papers to Switzerland for checking. The fiance should then go to a special branch of police in Bangkok to get a police record (it takes 3 weeks to get) and send it to the fiance in Switzerland.

    3) Once all papers arrived in Switzerland (1-2 weeks after), the Swiss fiance is called by the district to go there with single and residence ceritifcate and sign the marriage form there. The district will then issue a certificate to show that the Thai fiance will marry in Switzerland.

    4) The swiss fiance just bring this certificate to immigration and sign that he/she will take care of his foreign fiance while in Switzerland. No financial requirements are made (I asked why and they said because it's a human right to stay with your wife or husband, no matter the finance). On the other hand, they want to get the police record of the Thai fiance as they can refuse a serious crime offender. Immigration will then instruct the Swiss embassy in Thailand to issue a marriage Visa to the Thai fiance (issued within 1 week).

    5) The Thai fiance come to Switzerland and marry at the district. After this, the Thai fiance will get a RESIDENCE permit to stay in Switzerland valid for one year. This permit allows the holder to work at any place just like a Swiss citizen. No category of work are forbidden. Can change job anytime. No additional permit is required to work. Every year it needs to be renewed but it's just automatic (go to pick it up)

    6) After 5 years in Switzerland, the Thai fiance can apply for Swiss citizenship. Quite automatic for someone married to a Swiss. Process taking 1-2 years. After 5 years can apply to get a permanent residence permit which allows to buy land in Switzerland. This is given automatically as well and takes about 2-3 months.

Quite different from Thailand isn't it? Maybe it's too generous....

    Cheers.

Switzerland's a whacked out place dude that I would bet no one here gives a rats behind about

  12. That is a very unique idea to come here to teach English. I've heard of it once or twice by my fellow Americans and a brit or 2. I imagine they need teachers here. I don't know what on earth they pay but I do know that no one makes good bucks in Thailand that I know of. The successful people I meet here made their cash elsewhere then moved here after quitting jobs or retiring. They are loaded to hilt with cash and cashflow from outside thailand
