  1. French Embassy in Bangkok still advising "20 day overstay" no problem !

The UPDATED information in green are right.

The UPDATED information in red especially the "20 day overstay tolerated" is completly wrong and deeply alarming .... especially after reading Georges' last pot "Crack-down On Overstay In Koh Samui, MEMBER REPORT" and Chris Hill's posts.

    http://www.ambafrance-th.org/

then "Vivre et voyager en thailande"

    Then " visas court séjour"

This is what you can NOW read on the website of the French Embassy.

Is there anybody to suggest or give any advice to make them change their way to correct this everlasting "mistake" ?

And please, before I felt being in trial and so I was, so I would greatly appreciate if things go in a different way this time. The cheater is not me but the French embassy and most of you should recognize that in this TRT Era it's more than a quite dangerous advice!

overstay? sure why not. who cares? just pay late charge. no biggy

  2. Until it is enforced, it means nothing. I'm not sure why they need this central computer system to figure out if you've made three consecutive trips to the border. Seems like a quick glance at your passport would reveal that. As I've said all along, I know many people who go to the border every month. When they all start being deported, I will report it here. Until then, it seems like more rumours to me.

When I went to PP to get 60 day visa in Jan, the embassy had a printout of my entries and exits to and from thailand for the past 15 months I had been visa running. They did the same for a geezer who has been visa running for a few years but was short the pension amount and cash for retirement visa. They had us wait around all day and councelled us separately. The official told me to get non imm visa in penang or laos. I told him I did not meet requirements due to age and not working. He tried to tell me that age did not matter and that I could get visa with 400k in a thai bank. He said go to imm in bkk to find out what docs were necessary to bring to penang. the guy did not know what he was talking about, clearly

  3. An elite card is fine if you have 25 grand you want to burn. I'd rather keep the 25 g's and live on tourist visas as long as possible. Mark, the education option may work for you although I have no details on what you need for that but details should not be hard to get. I do know that changing from a 60 day visa to the ed. visa can be done in bkk in a day. Just make sure it is a 60 day not on extension and not a 30 day visa. There is an office on 2nd floor of bkk imm entitled "change visa". the dude in there will change visa on the spot with correct documentation. I would have done it but like you did not want to purchase 3 million in thai bonds. That is another option for you as the dude in that office told me that 3 million was the minimum requirement for the investment visa deposited into bonds at krung thai or other thai govt bank. I chose not to do that as I need the capital for US investments. Investing or gambling in thai stocks won't qualify you for inv. visa as far as I know. dude, I rec just getting a triple entry tourist and rest EZ till it runs out. That's what I'm doing

  4. Hi today I recived my one year visa non imigrant o multiple entry. But will happen after one year can I get a new one in bkk or do I have to go back to holland?

Iám only 44 year but I will recive monthly 80000thb (rate 1 euro- bath 45).are there ways to stay longtime in thailand.

    cheers mitmig

ps june 6 My wife and I will come to thailand for loooooooooooooooong time if they let us

oh yeah mit, on what grounds did you get your non imm O visa?

mitmig, you should start a new thread with that question

  6. I can't see what the problem is? If you have a job or a business and can prove it then you get the visa's you need?

If you are a foreigner and have no money and no job, do you really expect to be able to live in thailand ?

why should thailand want such people? they have enough problems of their own...

i fully support the new regulations and hopefully it will keep thailand smiling a little bit longer....and we wont be falling over so many foreign drunks in the future... :o

The problem, pal, is that some people living in Thailand are retired in their 40's with over a million baht in cash and pensions. These persons have no visa option other than tourist visas. These persons spend a great deal of money in this country, certainly quite a bit more than those others who scrap by to meet retirement or married visa requirements. They also spend a great deal more than penniless school teachers living in 2500 baht/mo flats on their pittance salaries

  7. yes doc I was lucky. I was new to Thailand and honestly did not know the whole thing was illegal at first. As for non imm visa, acc to bkk imm I only qualify for an investment visa based on my current situation whereby a 3 mil baht deposit to a thai gov't bank is requirement. I could do this I suppose but I'm not to anxious to do so. This 3 mil deposit visa is no where in writing I have found but imm told me that it is available

  8. I had to do a visa run recently, and the school that I work at advised me to go to Vientiane to get it. I booked a trip at the last minute (Songkran), and was able to get a bus up there. When I arrived I payed for my Laos visa (1500 baht) and took a taxi to the Thai embassy. On arrival, I was coaxed by a group of men sitting outside the embassy gates to hand over my passport, documentation from the school and photos, as well as an extra 40 baht just to have one of them fill in my visa application form. This is something I could have done myself and when I mentioned this to them they became a little unfriendly. Then it was off to the "gardens" of the embassy to hand my documentation over to staff member who had set up office outside. From there I was given a "number" and told to wait inside the embassy. This I did, and sat around waiting for about an hour just to have the lady behind the counter inform me, that as I am South African , there was no way possible for me to get a non immagrant B visa, and that I was considered to be in the ranks of Iraquis and Iranians. Although I tried to explain to this lady that I had no problems getting the same type of visa in Malaysia, she was adamant that she would not issue one to me, and proceeded to inform me that I needed to get "permission" from the Minister of Foreign Affairs before I could get a non immagrant visa in Laos.

I know that I should have at least found out before the time that I needed this so called permission" from the Minister, but what amazes and confuses me at the same time is what the difference is between one Thai embassy and another. So, the option that is left to me is Cambodia, which I am wondering, if they issue non immagrant B visa's at all or the trip to Malaysia, which the idea I am not fond of at the moment because of al the violence going on down South. And advice would be appreciated. Besides that, there is Singapore, but because I have had to lay out a good deal of money for the trip to Laos, I am left a little short changed.

Dude, whatever you do do not try to get the non imm B in Cambodia. This is the worst embassy to go to now

  9. You don't have to stay any length of time, but Vientienne is charming and quite safe. The Laotion border is the safest one now. Your wife can get a 3 day border pass for 100 baht as long as she doesn't leave Vientienne province. You will need to pay $30 USD (Has to be in US currency) to get a 30 day visa. Also you should bring cash in either USD or Thai baht for spending. The Laotian currency, the kip, is unpractical (ie; you need a suitcase full of it for a night on the town!) and there are no ATMs. It can get confusing, though, as whichever of the 3 currencies you use, you are likely to get your change in any combination of all 3.

I reccomend taking State Railway Thailand to Nong Khai, then you can take a tuk-tuk or whatever to the immigration place on the bridge, then a bus into Vientienne town, which is actually abou 10 or 15 miles up-river.

One thing I loved about Vientienne was the widespred availability of fresh baked baguettes!

can you get a visa on arrival for the fee or do you need it ahead of time?

  10. Report: American man found dead in Thai jail

PATTAYA: -- An American man was found dead in a Thai jail cell where he was being held for an alleged immigration offense, a newspaper reported Saturday.

Brian Dunn, 30, had been detained for overstaying his visa in the resort town of Pattaya southwest of the capital, Bangkok, The Nation newspaper reported, quoting police Lt. Col. Anan Thamchaikun.

Dunn was found dead with facial bruises over his cheekbones, the newspaper said. It didn't give the time or suspected cause of Dunn's death, his hometown, or his reason for being in Thailand.

Police were investigating the incident, the report said.

Police officials weren't immediately available for comment, and a U.S. Embassy spokesman said he was unable to confirm the incident.

  11. I've got to tell you that I used to drink 6 beers a day in my home country and now drink zero beers per day in thailand. Why? The taste of beer in this country is nasty in my opinion. I won't drink a thai brewed beer. This country needs to get with the program and allow imports to be sold at a reasonable price. 180 baht for a Guiness and 110 for a Bud does not cut it. Go to most any country and get a beer variety. Go to thailand and get same old 10 thai brands. Scuse me I gotta get sick now

well bob I dunno where you buy your beer from but I can get a cold VB stubbie in KhonKaen for 90 baht, thats cheaper than in OZ.

As far as Bud goes I dont think 110 baht is enough I reckon they should pay you at least a 1000 to drink that dishwater. :o

Nothing like an ice cold Bud, trust me. I've consumed thousands of them. I've only had a few sips of thai beers and man they were horrible. Gimme some cheaper imports please. How about some Guiness for less than 180 baht

  12. Gee, maybe you need to hire an orphan or someone who has no relatives?

    Isn't 8 to 5 close to a "full day"?

Spit out the extra baht if you want to hire someone round the clock and leave them with no time for themselves....

Do you own a cotton plantation???

Whoa! I don't need your sarcasm, thank you very much. Sounds like you got something against anyone who's done or does things differently. I resent your insinuation that we are slave drivers working our maids to death.

What I'm used to is someone who's simply more flexible with their time. Who's not a clock watcher but who works till the job is done. Currently our maid's workday begins with breakfast at 7:30AM and ends after serving dinner at 6:30PM and cleaning up after. That for me is a full day. Even those of us who have office jobs work as much and as long, sometimes even longer. That said, if in case we have dinner at 7:30, for instance, and she finishes later than usual, she doesn't demand to be paid extra. Now that I know that's not the way maids work in Bangkok, I'll know to adjust my expectations.

BTW, where did you get that information about live in maids....?
Dutchy, my friend who lives in Bangkok told me but she wasn't very clear about it.

To those who answered my query, thanks for the info.

Actually Penzman is correct. Hong Kong and Singapore wealthy individuals are permitted to have legal slave filipino maids. this is sad but true. these are places with more massas than you can shake a stick at. A friend of mine married his maid so it was all worth her while as she tapped into a multi millionaire. to those less fortunate, it's a grind but they get a nice place to stay with 1 day off per week.

  13. Since the subject has been brought up. I used the infamous agents up until Aug of last year. the last dropoff of my passport to agent on khao san rd my passport vanished for 2 solid months. i received a call from agent that my passport was at my embassy. i went to embassy and signed for it. they told me that thai imm had sent it there. in my passport was a sadao stamp with oct date. i was shaken up to say the least. i put off leaving country and overstayed 51 days. on that fateful dec day i got up the nerve to cop a flight to PP. everyone advised me to lose passport but i chose not to. pulled aside at airport and paid 10200 overstay charge. imm guy looked at sadao stamp and said oh, sadao. he then got on phone to call someone as he said goodbye. i reentered thailand a few days later by plane and returned to PP 29 days later for next run. this time i got a 60 day visa and was advised by PP official to get a non imm O visa (for which I do not qualify). upon returning to thailand i was pulled aside at airport into imm office. i was a tad nervous. imm guy held me there as he made a phone call. he asked my address and phone. he said someone from imm was to call me in a day. sure enuf the call comes in. the dude wants to come to my apt. i got a translator on phone who arranged for me to go to police station to give report with details of the visa scam. i thought i was headed to slammer for sure. got to station and answered list of questions about agent and other details. left station and received call from original imm guy i talked to. he was hat jai imm boss. his english was broken but he was great. he just asked me if everything enjoy. he knew i was freaking over the whole thing. the translator guy said if i had not gone to answer questions i would have had a freeze placed on my passport and who knows what else. all is well now but it was a rather large scare indeed. i just made visa run to penang and got triple entry tourist without problem. what will happen in oct? who knows
