  1. In the first post above there is link to a map that shows the general location, Click on the highlighted "Esso" there is a link there, but the webpage link doesn't work anymore so no idea if the company being referenced is still there? There have been threads here that have had a few links to trailer sellers and hitch installers, but maybe someone else has an idea how to bring one up I can't remember the topics and a search does not bring up anything for me.

  2. Thanks, didn't have time to sift through the site, I think it should be more easily noted, but Bangkok is perfectly centered an in my neighborhood to rent one for say a weekend at the track, it's perfect, no hassling with hotels or schedules, check out times, loading and unloading everything when you leave etc. bring your hotel room to the track and have a convenient place to get your lunch, get out of the heat, de-stress, whatever..

For a weekend at the track, all my objections disappear. Because there are no hotels on the infield...

Exactly which is one of the many examples that they can be very useful for..

  3. billd766,

Thank you for posting the results of the most recent engine work. Can you elaborate on your statement "The truck runs OK now?"

I have no idea what is described on your bills. I can't read Thai.

    Thanks again.

Sorry but I have had flu and whilst my brain and body occupied the same space there was a disconnect.

The truck was running a bit rough but with 322,xxx km on the clock it has done very well with regular oil changes etc but no real deep servicing. It is now running better than it has for a while but I think at some time I will need to get the fuel injection system sorted out and possibly a proper overhaul in the future. Then it should be good for another 2 or 300,000 km.

I will try to get a translation in the next day or two.

The smaller bill was for a water pump at 1,870 bt, 2 drive belts at 250/300 bt, labour and I think the green inhibitor for the coolant.

The larger bill was 16,000 bt for a cylinder head, new head, inlet and exhaust gaskets, probably 2,500 bt for labour costs as far as I can figure out.

16? Looks like 23,760 to me?

  5. I'm blown away by the amount of interest and comments this thread is getting? So many people out there have seen this technology that it isn't even notable? IMHO and Sen sei did you have any idea how far behind the rest it seems we all are?

It's interesting, but not on a practical level.

If I were a betting man, I'd bet that Captain America paint job cost more than my first 3 cars combined... Even a single color job would cost "a few thousand dollars just for top coat materials alone" (quoting the article), plus another few thousand to spray it.

Then there's the issue of longevity, and how long between $$$$$ paint jobs, what happens if I get a tiny scratch, how many local hoodlums are going to pee or spit on it to see it change, and on and on.

For a scooter where a pint ($300-400) would probably do 2-3 resprays, maybe. For $??,000? Not much interest here.

Seriously?? facepalm.gif First off I doubt anyone who buys this has the first thought about practicality. Secondly, no one is trying to sell you, it's just an idea for those who can afford it obviously, not to mention that it's new tech, and like all new tech it needs to evolve. But at least to your credit you posted your observations, that's more then I can say for so many others who've viewed and posted nothing?

  6. People who are so nice in daily life and not able to tell fuxx to anyone are just monkeys behind the wheel because this is the only place where they can revenge all their KRENG JAI.

And no where else is this more evident then on western roads. The one thing for certain I miss since being back is the driving freedom I had there and the lack of police presence impeding the traffic flow stopping people for simple infractions everywhere, where here it is constantly on my mind as is the road rage and driver idiocy more then I EVER experienced while there.

So true, especially the road rage issue in the US. I posted this on another thread, but pretty relevant to this thread as well:

    http://edition.cnn.com/videos/us/2015/07/17/biker-road-rage-moos-pkg-erin.cnn/video/playlists/wacky-world-of-jeanne-moos/

I saw that, he was drunk too and apparently broke his ankle in the process, probably stumbled in that drain while acting like a nutter. While not excusing his reactions by any means, I wish I had more info of what happened before the video picks up though, but him putting his hands on the guys girl was OTT, once that happened I'd not been so understanding and forgiving as this guy was, but she should have kept her hands to herself too.. Anyway topic for another discussion, but this is one of my biggest shocks since being back is the OTT way people are driving and over-reacting. I'm guilty myself at times and it's BECAUSE I expect more of the drivers here to know better and drive better, be more courteous, etc. and sadly few do, hwen there it;s easier to justify, accept, take avoidance and move on at your own pace.

  7. I agree with you all, especially the last 5 or 6 posts....

I love driving in Thailand... I love that I don't need to worry about going 3 mph above the speed limit lest I incur a 3 point penally (*of 12)... my latest UK infraction had me charged at 35 mph in a 30 zone... OUCH !!!!.... (10% +2)....

Yes, I was p!is$ed off... so I came back to Thailand and gunned it !!!!... Well, no I didn't... I came back to Thailand and drove responsibly...

AND.... (in Capitals for emphasis of this point)... this is where I expect You, my fellow ThaiVisa friends to recognise the key word above.... (underlined for those who can't!)

We, as a community, web based or otherwise have a common ground... We are interested in the subject we are discussing, if we aren't we'd close this web page and move on... So, that out of the way..... back on topic....

......back in Thailand I Drive with the same level of consideration I have when driving in the UK... BUT... without the fear of traffic cams... But its different...

If I drive the same way in the UK that I drive here, I'd be in trouble... If I drive here the same way I drive in the UK I'd still be there trying to exit my soi...

I like not having to be worried of how I drive here... but that comes at the cost of sharing the roads with those who also enjoy not having to be worried of how they drive here...

I am very sure which is the better 'evil'..... the stats also show this...

So, when 'driving pleasure' is concerned I don't much care for it...... I also have an issue with indiscriminate stupidity and feel we need to make any attempt to avoid it at all costs... However, freedom means we have to remain tolerant of those who's standards fall short of our own...

In short... we have to be 'jai yen'... I just hope the tailgaters would back off.....

    (Caveat: posted while drunk... !)....

and I wonder how many of these " Thais are wonderful drivers and i feel so free folk" would be if their Wife/Mother/Father / child was ripped to pieces in an incident on the road by someones stupidity/laziness...shrug shoulders and carry on eh?

Erm actually Thailand is Buddhist, they count on amulets for protection and if that doesn't work mai pen rai, it's all part of life to them, the soul moves on to a better existence.

  9. The beauty of campers is that they come with their own infrastructure, no need for anything more.. They also come in a wide range of sizes though it seems most posting here don't have the first clue about that optional feature. I wish the dealer who posted the rental website a lot of luck I admire their vision and think they have a real winner, I'd most certainly rent one in the future if they're still available and we return to Thailand, one problem I see though is being in a fixed location to pick one up. Where is it? I had trouble finding the info on their website it should be very easy to locate? is it the north or south?

  10. Thanks for the embed IMHO, never can seem to get that to work? I don't think there is any wrap, the water flows off and makes it look like a wrap crease but they talk about the cost of the paint being very high (no surprise there). You may be seeing the water marks but maybe you're right I don't really know enough about it to say for certain, I just ran into it. But that is really some paint job! Can you imagine driving that in the rain?? How cool? Especially if it was a sun shower or just short shower and the sun came back out? What will they come up with next? thumbsup.gif

Just watched again, I don't see any wrap creases I think you may be seeing a water splash before they started video or maybe you're seeing a contour. It would be incredible if it did come in a wrap though and you could easily change backgrounds, and I can see how they could possibly apply such technology to a wrap, and maybe that is the next evolution?

  11. Warpy and IMHO, I need to apologize to both of you as you are both correct about the rego stuff.

There was some guys from TSS at my work today inspecting a race car and I took the opportunity to ask about the rego stuff.

He said they all need to be road registered in Thailand to be eligible to race with the exception of vehicles here on temp import papers for race purposes.

I asked about the vehicles that are not taxed and road registered and/or have no vin numbers..... he just said money talks and winked.

So with hat in hand I humbly offer you both an apology, you were both correct and I was very much wrong.

Stand up post, regards and respect..

  12. Geez IMHO you're on a roll! It's refreshing to see such frank honesty. For anyone who cares to know? In Germany there is an unwritten rule regarding right of way on the Autobahn, and VW and their products are at the top of that pyramid over both BMW and Mercedes, in their minds VW both built and after WWII, rebuilt Germany.

  13. What makes you think the thai made pickup is here on a temp import permit ?

seems to me you are confusing yourself but to be clear you said "Actually, there are no special rules for race cars in TH. All cars must be registered for road use."

My reply to that is most of the group one cars are on temp import..... you know, them ferraris/porsches/audis/chevrolets/holdens etc etc etc.

Are you telling me they are not on temp imports but are infact legally taxed and road registered in Thailand ?

Sorry mate, given the thread topic, and the photos of race pickups, and the question of how many of these could be driven on the road, that's the context I was working under smile.png

coffee1.gifwhistling.gif Obviously some missing the tongue in cheek, sarcasm. facepalm.gifwai.gif

  14. Ironically look what a quick search popped up?

    http://www.alltruckracing.com/pickup-truck-racing.html

Note the signage in the background? Though it's a western website..

Lowered but not a "low rider", easily driven on the street and likely, being Thailand, was driven to this race like most are. FYI I did not even search Thailand pick up truck racing when this came up..

How about this jpeg? See any pickup trucks in this jpeg that might be lowered but still streetable? That answer is, ALL OF THEM..

These were searched for Thailand, it's fact that a large portion of these was driven there as well. They actually have to be registered to drive on the road.

    Get it now?

Which of those are registered for road use and driven there ?

None of the front runners I can guarantee.

Actually, there are no special rules for race cars in TH. All cars must be registered for road use.

    Strange yes, but also true,

Any of these can be legally driven on public roads.

Nope, wrong. None of the Group one cars are road registered, infact most are here on temp import permits for race use.

I know first hand atleast 3 pickups that run the TSS super pickup series that do not even have chassis numbers as they were built from brand new replacement body shells.

Group 1 race cars are race cars, not made for street tuner classes and therefore not part of the post, either mine or IMHO. Spooner, stop being so pedantic and difficult, no one is speaking about those, that's just trolling, we're not stupid. Regardless of who they paid to get their rules superseded the general rules require registered vehicles, it is Thailand after all, rules are all too often bent or waved in favor of certain competitors, one massive reason I wouldn't waste my time to compete there unless I was associated with a higher end Thai team, but that created it's own obstacles. The technicality we ALL know about here is that they are MANUFACTURED for the road and could/should be registered, first and foremost. I'll not continue this off topic conversation over such pedantic nonsense.

Really? Since when Spooner? It was always required in the street tuner classes that they had to be able to be registered and that was a requirement just like the other spec classes. I've personally seen many of them drive there with tires in the back and then leave after the race driving on the street with tags. But.. That isn't the point is it? That's just an argument and my post isn't limited to the "front runners" and quite frankly has nothing to do with the post in it's entirety, it's about the ride height.

  16. yeah, very old and worn rails cheesy.gif
Have you ever watched proper pick-up racing. OK they spend a little more on their trucks but you get the idea I'm sure.

You mentioned racing again, now you lost everybody, they don't spend a whole lot more on their suspension, many use the same as they'd use on the street when lowering.

The front runners spend a lot of money on suspension.

My point was so do many street tuners. so not such a difference price wise on many race trucks versus street trucks.

  17. They're not low ride models, they're normal, regular ride models. The others are raised up.

This has got to be the most ridiculous thread in motoring forum history.

One more on my "ignore" list coffee1.gif

It was a pretty innocent question, that just got a bit out of control.

The OP went out and bought a pickup w/out even understanding the range of options available. Lucky for him he landed on his feet with a heavily discounted Triton Plus smile.png

    @OP: No offense tongue.png

No, I didn't I well researched what I wanted before I bought and am perfectly happy with my choice. I would not have been the slightest bit interested in purchasing a low ride model. My question, 7 months after I bought the Triton, is because a neighbour has in fact a low ride model, and I wanted to know if it could have come from the factory like that or been modified after. With some of the more sensible answers I've received, it appears that he has a modified pickup. Does that clear it up for you IMHO?

I really wasn't having "a go" at you, mate. All good smile.png

A bit on the thin edge that one..

  18. I know the ones you mean and it hasn't really been clearly answered for you whether they come from the factory as low as that. Myself, I have always thought that it was a "to look cool" thing.

yeaaaaa! 39 posts to get to the answer. it looks cool. now lets add 'it happens all over the world' to the thread.

    coming up next-

why do they stick plastic film which is designed to look like carbon fibre all over their cars?

    'because it looks cool'

why do they do anything at all to alter the appearance of their cars?

    'because it looks cool'

why do they fill half the ampur with black smoke when they pull away from the lights?

'because it looks........ well actually that looks pretty dumb as its unburnt fuel but to them it 'looks cool'

You missed my point. I was asking if the low ride versions came from the factory like that, and the answer is, some models do and some don't. I wasn't particularly interested in the aftermarket modded versions by boy racers, but the low ride factory pickups.

I'm surprised you're allowed you to say that, I wasn't? Agree 100% though, the Op was never capable of even relating to the forum what his perception of "lowered" was and then got snooty with anyone who posted to try to set him straight which was his OP in the first place. Should have left this thread to the few who understand his unique form of comprehension. I see I'm not alone, I'll practice that in the future and let him figure out his own way with his "unique" questions.................................

  19. Thank you. It's just that I have never seen in any of the manufactures brochures a "low rider" option, so I wasn't sure if they had been done as an aftermarket option or from the factory.

I know the ones you mean and it hasn't really been clearly answered for you whether they come from the factory as low as that. Myself, I have always thought that it was a "to look cool" thing.
