  1. Wow long thread. To the op: mate suck it up, maybe hope yer lawyer can get it down to 5 years. To listen to the advice here that maybe you can get back in, umm nope as you will be breaking the law once again, you the person has been banned and nope (as some sugggest otherwise) there are no loopholes. You put yourself in this situation and its caught up with you. Yep, move the wife out of Thailand and move on with your life.

Best of luck with a new adventure OP

  2. If you can't login on PS at moment (asking for update, then this message warning 'signature or wrong time settings) .............

    1) reset your computer date back to 23rd June (yep yesterday lol) and try again.

    2) click on PS, wait for update (it will) and then fully log in.

    3) Exit PS.

    4) Reset date back to real (as in now/today, whatever day that is the real day today mann).

    5) Re- login ....no problems anymore.

Good luck with your play money, as remember you crazy kids, it's illegal to gamble in Thailand :bah::D

  3. Just looking around for results of tests and came across some figures for tests 5 and 6 from last year ....figures below are a combination of the 2 sessions:

Test Part 1: 243 took the test and 212 passed.

Test Part 2: 241 took the test and 21 passed.

Test Part 3: 164 took the test and 15 passed.

Test Part 4: 173 took the test and 21 passed.

Mmm, so from this (given that the figures are correct) Farangs are either dumb or tests 2,3,4 are poorly written/irrelevant. C'mon, parts 2 and 3, less than 10% pass and part 4 barely over that. The only 'easy' test seems to be Part 1.

Also it strikes me that the number of teachers asked/required to do these tests is quite low IMO ...I don't know the figures of the amount of teachers in Thailand that are deemed 'not to be qualified' according to the criteria that the Teacher's council has set forth, but are there not 'thousands' of farang teachers working in Thailand? (can anyone enlighten on this?)

C'mon Teacher's Council of Thailand, please be fair on two counts: If you ask one unqualified farang to do these tests then ask all of them to do it, and maybe re-write tests 2, 3 and 4 eh so that more farangs are able to pass. That is based upon my assumption that farangs are not dumb ....you may have the opposite assumption

Oh, yup ...I am one of those farangs embarking upon this wonderful journey of wasting my time and money to hopefully be one of the 10%. Thx MOE that if I am not, what do I say to my family when I'm finally booted out of the country after 10 or more years? errr ..Mai Bpen Rai ???

  4. Ty Phat, sry Scott .... 'Copped' slang (UK) ....asked to it by the MOE. That is, caught out/caught up with/requested by the MOE as opposed to those who have yet been asked to do so . Didn't wanna start a battle. Triple You.

Massive P ...No degree means .....No degree, err without a degree, no University qualification.

  5. Just around up of teachers in my town that I have spoke to this week:

4 at private schools with a degree copped to do it.

1 at a gov. school with a degree copped to do it.

4 at gov. schools with a degree, never heard of it and don't have to do it.

5 at gov. schools with no degree, never heard of it and don't have to do it.

Ho hum on with the grind of those exams for me then, while many can just chill. Also, there seems to be talk of it being scapped anyway ...I hope so !

Go on please tick a box in the poll, cheers Triple You :jap:

  6. Hello all you teachers out there without a PGCE or equivalent ....basically all those with or without a degree teaching in Thailand, irrespective of CELTA, TESOL, TEFL (as these do not make you exempt) and irrespective of whether or not you work through an agency.

The reason (in my town) is that I personally know quite a few teachers who work in government schools that have not heard of the Thai Culture Test (TCT) or exams and have not been asked to do them. Some have degrees and some do not. Also some private school teachers have not been asked either but all I know have a degree. It would be interesting to see who is actually being asked to do these requirements.

So go on, don't be shy, please be honest and please tick a box :jap:

IMHO, if one farang teacher is asked to do this then all should be, seems fair to me. But, let's see if we can find the truth of the situation here and then draw your own conclusions.

    Cheers Triple You.

  7. Oh well ...and no surprise (please see post 13 for the copy of the government act on teacher license renewal). Our boss went to the MOE this week with a copy in hand and proof of 2 teachers with 7+ years experience and more than 5 at our present school.

The man laughed at this and told our boss "They still have to do the exams". Wonderful attitiude eh!, and when the government doesn't believe their own written government acts, what chance do you stand? But, it could just be that individual and his interpretation thereof, which is often the case with poorly trained / just plain obstructive civil servants, IMHO.

To top it all, at the moment they are dragging their feet in processing the letter to allow postponement of the exam (as we haven't done them yet LOL) and it will be a close call if it is done before our visas expire in 10 days time .....sorry, but I think the MOE are ************************************************************************************** fill in the blanks.

May others find otherwise ..it's just a case of finding the right individual, good luck

  8. As phaethon too I use True inter ...(no contract option) and when card purchased at 7 11 etc. it is valid for a year. Never calculated it to the satang but it's good and bloody cheap at a baht a min. and only have I once in over a year not able to get a connection on the 00600 service.

    10/10 from me

  9. Best thing for 3BB to do is close the doors on their business and forget about trying to provide internet to anybody. There signal is the worst and their staffs service to customers is even worse. I switched from 3BB to TOT almost a year ago and couldn't be happier.

Lol Lol Lol, ditto, I gave up maxshite a year and a half ago and over to TOT and I couldn't be happier too ....yup they should just give up being an ISP and go and sell som tam somewhere.

    :hit-the-fan:

  10. Cheers Slip :-), Yup have given a copy of the KSP page to my boss last week or so and she's off to the MOE to see what the score is.

If it is indeed the favourable case then me and another teacher will benefit by this and avoid all those horrid exams at our own expense ...fingers crossed and will know the outcome by latest end of feb .... will keep all posted.

Let's just see how 'black and white' black and white is ...mmm it is TIT afterall :jap:

  11. I'm a 'working towards' teacher. I passed (lol) the Thai culture course back in May as all teachers at our school were copped to do so this year ...I use the word 'copped' as it doesn't seem to apply to all schools.

Couple of questions if anyone out there would be kind enough to shed some light upon this

    1) Now then, am I now in the shit as I haven't applied to take any of the 4 tests yet (I see the deadline for payment of next round of exams in Jan 2011 has passed) but I have passed the TC course? My next renewal is up in March 2011.

    2) Also, mmm, hoping too much? Am I exempt from taking the tests because: (copied from the KSP website, Teacher license renewal B.E. 2552)

"For foreign teachers who hold the renewal licenses are responsible for completing the following requirements:

    1. Standards of Professional Knowledge

1.1 Hold a degree in Education or an equivalent or in other related fields accredited by the Teachers Council of Thailand or meets one of the following requirements:

    (1) Hold a bachelor's degree and a graduate diploma in Education or studying a degree or graduate diploma in Education.

    (2) Hold a bachelor's degree and pass or take the Teachers Council of Thailand certification test to improve your development process.

    (3) Do not hold a bachelor's degree, but studying a degree in education.

    Or

1.2 Individuals who do not meet the requirement 1.1, they shall have the following requirement:

    (1) Hold a bachelor's degree and have had at least 5 years of teaching experience.

    (2) Do not hold a bachelor's degree, but have had at least 10 years of teaching experience."

I have had a TL for 5 years and 7 months at a Prathom school and previous to that 2 years at a Uni = 7+ years of 'teaching experience' in Thailand. So from that line in red would I be exempt or not? I'm just not clear on this and would be great if anyone has a definitive answer on this (Scott the wise one, your input would be appreciated) . Hey, I'm just living in hope as I really don't want to go through this mill of 4 exams and at least 4000 Baht later.

    Thx Triple You :jap:

  12. Lol .this is the same complaint as in as many days on TV about Facbook being blocked. MMm ....no problem on TOT at all ..straight through go everywhere and do everything as usual.

So, what does that tell you? It's that effin company called 3BB (aka maxnet/Maxshite ....different name ..same <deleted>) .....get off their contract and give up ..TOT ain't perfect but it's 10% of the headache that 3bb/maxnet creates for the customer ........I'm soooooooooo glad I gave up on them 14 months ago ...they really are a bunch of muppets.

Do yerself a favour and look for another ISP ...that is where yer problems are ...not MICT.

  13. Dunno Mindo about rep. of Ireland =, but if N.I. (UK) using a 'True Inter' sim costs 1 baht per min to landlines and 6 baht to Mobiles. This is the cost on their 'budget line' being 00600 dial first. I've used it for UK for about a year now and connection is great ...only once cut off and is also clear too.

Pop into a local True shop and ask them about ROI as I can't find a rate but sure NI is as UK prices quoted.

Also, 2 types of Inter ...one monthly contract etc. and the one I have: pay as you go top up. When I top up, it's valid for a year any amount. My sim 49 baht.

    GLB)

  14. shhh ! having a flutter is illegal in LOS (or so the say lol) ..... but if it's that site in the Isle of Man ....been on it all year and have had the odd minor drop of max 30 secs .... and thus recovery at the table has only really been affected once. Also the connectivity is always between 96 - 100 % on my table icon thus good enough. However, I never run more than 3 games at the same time. I'm on TOT basic 4MB/512 package ....happy with it.

    GL

  15. ^ Thx for the insight PIB and yes hopfully at Kaspersky they realise the have an issue with KIS2011 and update it accordingly.

My last IS was KIS 2009 and no problems at all with that. Also after all I've tried and checked (and a little more last night scanning comp with another virus checker, nothing came up at all) ...so it must be a problem in their software. Strangely enough a check on the 'windows 7 compatibility program' says this KIS 2011 is 'incompatible' ??? although it sez on the box of KIS 'compatible for windows 7' ....urrr go figure ??

Anyone else running KIS 2011 on windows 7 OS out there? ...If so, please report back if you have the same symptoms as I have or not ...be nice to know. Many thanks Triple You.

  16. Thx Jocsum and Pib ..... Kept the activation data only as link suggested and totally uninstalled KIS. Also checked for any remnants by 'search' but all was gone. Started again and reloaded KIS by the link for English latest version (400) and then the databases and then did a critical and full scan (both of which reported nothing) ....Bingo and totally clean computer, nothing detected .....or err not ???

So speed check again .....nope, no good and still erratic. Switch off KIS ...stable.

Now I've really exhausted things to do. There is a problem but Kaspersky is the problem ..so kaspersky cannot analyise itself as the problem ...mmm I have a problem ##%^?

Anbody else having issues with KIS like this ....cheers for anymore help out there.

P.S. I need your help as trying to contact support at Kaspersky cannot be done ....tried to get 'customer ID' and half way through process it tells me that Kaspersky no longer supports 'home packages' LOL how is this so and if so, pretty bloody poor eh.

  17. Just B4 I turn in (wery late now) ...is it possible to remove Kaspersky 2011 program completely from comp. and then reload from internet (I have no 2011 CD ... but I have the licence and activation keys)?

In as much, will kaspersky still recognise that its the same computer and thus the keys are valid?

Just asking as this maybe a solution to start afresh if I'm able to do it.

(From http://www.kaspersky.com/kis_latest_versions English version 400 ...is this ok too??)

    Thx Triple You.

Nite Nite ..need sleep, will check tomorrow ...thx in advance for any help out there :-)

  18. Ahh ..the intuuurnet in Thailand:lol: . Well TOT is far from perfect but 3BB (aka Maxnet) is well a total joke. But hey, it's a lottery as to where you live ...and where I live Tot totally outstrips 3BB by a mile.

Good luck to you all and your endeavours to complain and get some modicom of justice for your ISP bill;)

  19. Firstly, any help would be greatly appreciated from the teccies out there.

I recently updated from 2009 to 2011 internet security and problems started. At first I thought it was my TOT line but the engineers came, plugged in their comp. and all read fine on speedtests (ToT, Adsl, Speedtest).

I finally found the culprit that it was indeed Kaspersky. When Kaspersky is switched off the download speed is fine and constant ....When on, download speed is erratic giving readings between 500 KBPS to 75 MB ! (75MB being impossible given my contract and the lines' max capability of 26MB) and up and down like a yo-yo each second. Also this erratic behaviour does affect connectivity to websites. However, the upload is always constant. I've tried switching off individual items under 'settings' to no avail. The only thing that cures this erratic download speed is by switching off completely.

I've also tried 'repair program' and made no difference. The TOT engineer in his opinion said it could be a virus ...so did a full scan, and no virus found ...but if there was a virus in the anti virus ..well maybe its not possible to detect???

I'm stumped and have another 350 days on this licence ...what else can I do to cure this? Getting through to Kaspersky service seems near impossible ...please help.

    Many thanks : Triple You.

  20. I will start this post with the legal words "Without Prejudice" (as to my own admission of bribery) :

This is not new and has been reported over the years ... a judge taking a bribe. Yes, it happens in Thailand and many many countries around the world, even our little western havens eh. Taking a bribe is merely a human condition and greed takes over. No one in any authoritative poistion is exempt from the temptation to take a handsome bribe, but it is the will and character of the individual that says yes or no.

So are judges exempt? ...No they are not, and for some people who sit on the high horse of rightousness frowning upon this activity, whether it is a judge or a traffic cop, to me, it's all the same, and yes I've given a traffic cop a bribe to avoid a ticket. So, am I as guilty for doing that as the judge and his 'alledged received bribe'? ....probably, as it takes two parties to make this work; the bribe giver and the bribe receiver.

'No one is innocent' ....as they say:ph34r:

  21. Me and 2 other teachers from my school were required in May to do the "Thai language, culture and professional ethics course for non Thai teacher" as the title goes on the cert.

2 days of your own time (sat and sun) and 2,500 Baht at the Bansomdejchaopraya Rajabhat University, Bangkok. I believe they hold the course once about every 2 months.

The course is a laugh, but it seems some schools get copped and the teachers have to go through the motions and other schools get left alone (that is, in my home town and some government and some private schools have had to do it .... why some don't, must be good connnections??).

The course was basically a lecture and minimal participation was required. As you would expect, disorganised but easy at the same time. I've been here 10 years so I learned nothing from this course, but some newbies may learn a little.

However, the cert. took 9 weeks to reach me and is basically a low quality print job off their computer along with my photo stuck on the back.

Also, I have a degree in Thai language and SEA dev. studies and did not make me exempt. One other teacher had a degree and Tefl, he was not exempt. As far as I know, only B'Ed and PGCE/ dipEd type teachers are exempt along with teachers who have had a TL previous to mid-2003 (I missed this by a handful of months :( )

So, if you get copped to do this course, I would recommend the above University (Near Wong Wian Yai, Thonburi roundabout) as it's easy and a good price (I've heard as much as 10K B4) but be patient for the cert.

Contact details there: Dr. Areewan Iamsa-ard 081-398-7273 and Mr. Thanin Kong-in 084-207-4095 .

    Chok dii
