  1. I know it's not the West, but if it was a Western democracy and it was apparent the government were acting like criminals...exactly what would the people do? Sit back and let the government rape the treasury or take whatever action necessary?

If you wanna know what the West does about criminals ruling the country and raping the treasury.

Just look at what happened with the huge U.S. financial bail out and for that matter its current level of debt and how that came about.

Yes, the West sat back, stared, grumbled a bit and moved on like f…ing sheep.

Corruption in the Euro parliament !

The West grumbles a bit again and shows the same sheepish behavior.

Greece, Iceland, Spain bankrupt through corrupt politicians

    And again, baeaeaeh baeaeaeh.

That's what the West does !

  2. all great, but only if both sides would be held accountable... which is unlikely to happen I guess.

    both sides?

afaik since 2006 there was only one side in government (except about 1 year). Of course the democrats should be accountable, too. Guess who caused the bigger havoc

Thailand existed even before 2006 though and if I remember well, poverty and corruption were part of Thai society, also before 2006.

Might it be, that even before 2006, there was also wrongful management of the country taking place ?

    Just a thought ! wink.png

  3. I thought, the visa rules and regulations in Thailand, were always clear to every one.

If you would like to visit Thailand for a longer period of time, a 15 day Tourist Visa extension by border crossing could only be done with a maximum of 3 times.

If you needed more time in Thailand you would have to leave the country to get a new 3 month or 1 year visa abroad.

Or if one worked or was a student or pensioner in Thailand you could make a visa in Thailand itself.

When making a 3 month or 1 year visa abroad, the embassy checks whether this visa can be issued or not.

    Pretty clear it seems.

The biggest problem is that Thai immigration made a mess of this by not sticking to its own rules.

It was lenient 1 moment and allowed 1 day border crossing visa runs up to 10 times in a row or more and the next moment it clamped down on these so called visa runs.

Reason for clamping down was always: Clamping down on Foreigners abusing the Thai visa system.

Now, the recent clamp down stems from the MH370 airplane drama, so they say.

This might be the case, but what immigration seems to be saying this time, is that it cannot control border crossings decently.

If foreigners travel outside of the kingdom by air, the check ups are sufficient.

But if they travel outside of the Kingdom by foot or otherwise, the check ups do not suffice.

    Quote:

[“All they said is that you now have to fly out only. No more exit by land via a new regulation passed.]

    So in plain English:

Besides the airports the country is as leak as a sieve.

  4. As of the 10th of my one cannot extend a tourist visa with 15 days any more.

These are new rules and regulations from immigration.

When one has a visa NON-O, B or ED which expires, one can make a single 15 day tourist visa extension.

After that one has to leave by air and get a visa at one's home country or at a Thai embassy in a neighboring country.

Was at Mae-sai yesterday and got tourist visa of 15 days after my NON-B ran out but was told that next time I would have to leave the country by air and visit a Thai embassy.

There were lots of people that were refused.

  5. Terry you know the police are partially to blame. They throw themselves in front of traffic to get cars to stop and even try to grab on to motorcycles to make them stop. Im not saying this man is not at fault because he is. But police should have a better system to get drivers than standing at a checkpoint waiting to grab you.

Sent from my GT-S5310 using Thaivisa Connect Thailand mobile app

You need to read the original thread about this, the cops were taking a break under a tent on a foot path when this guy ran thru the road block and over them

So the road block was on the foot path ??

    Strange !!!

  6.  I know, but we skyped every day for 2 months for like 2 hours a day so I didn't just fall in love over 2 weeks.  You learn a lot about each other when you video call each other this much so I already had feelings for her before I went to Thailand.            I don't believe she would Skype with me this much if she wasn't really interested me as she was always asking in email "you Skype tonight mai".                    Its to much time to just try and scam someone, a scammer or some one who just wanted a gik payment wouldn't invest that much time.

I appreciate all replies, cynicism included as I need to look from different view points as I feel quite confused at the moment.   Mrjlh I appreciate your post mak.

It seems like you're not really taken in the given advice and have made up your mind already.

You're defending everything and seem genuinely in love.

We can only guess of course because none of us were there.

We also cannot judge the passionate love that bloomed between the 2 of you.

We can only judge the info you have given to us.

My advice based on that info: Abort !

    Just leave this one alone.

  7. A lot of crimes never get solved by Thai Police, but every time there is pressure put on them through any media, crimes are solved incredibly quick.

In the article it says: The boys deny the allegations but Police says it has enough evidence.

It always makes me wonder, is it real or are they being framed ?

I only hope they have caught the real killers and that they will be put to trial swiftly !

RIP to the 14 year old victim and loads of strength to his parents !!

  8. Quote:

[Today the police said they have arrested Mr. Chartchai Si-Arwut, 23, and Mr. Warot Theesoongnoen, 21, in connection to the incident. According to the police, Mr. Chartchai and Mr. Warot exposed their breasts to the public as they were riding on their pick-up truck in Mueang district on 13 April.]

I saw many men with naked upper bodies during Songkran.

Is the fact, that the breast of these 2 men have different shapes then the average male breast, all of a sudden indecent and/or illegal ??

The guy who showed his penis in public, no one can recognize, because his face and genitals are blocked out.

One should actually show both face and genitals maybe some-one recognizes one or the other and can help the Police with their very important research.

  9. Of course the perps must be put to trial.

Horrible to just let the kid die in the street and drive away.

I hope this will haunt them the rest of their lives and that they will be brought to justice !

RIP young man and lots of strength to the family.

Having children myself I can only imagine your pain.

That being said, the comments towards Russians in general in the article, are way out of place.

Like hit and run never happens in Thailand with Thai drivers.

    Remember: the Red Bull heir.

A pilar of society, even drags the victim along with his car for another 100 meters, before speeding off.

His friends didn't even have to mention his last name.

A battery of lawyers, judges and other influentials made sure that justice never got a chance.

Are all Thais then all of a sudden sociopathic people without feelings.

    No, of course not !

As terrible as this behavior is, it is not a national trait, neither for Thais nor for Russians.

  10. The problem with Thailand is collapsing birthrates not people living longer....

1.28 births per woman on last count.

In the past, the rural Thais lived mostly of their own land and sufficed with what was readily available.

Kids went to the local temple school and kids took care of their parents when they were grown ups.

To guarantee a decent life after pension, people needed to have more children, to take care of them when old.

    Result: big families !

Nowadays rural Thais want a better life for their kids including f.i. good education.

This means that current generation of rural parents already limits the amount of kids they will have, because school etc. is expensive.

The kids are sent to school in the nearest city and return with completely different views on life.

They want what other people also have, the cars, fashion items the lots.

They do not want to do the backbreaking farm work their parents did but want a better life.

From that perspective kids are a very expensive burden.

We have already seen that in the west.

First the big house, the cars, the beautiful garden and all the rest and than finally, if still fertile, a kid.

  11. Thailand isn't for you. This is how most of asia works, not just Thailand.

Perhaps go to Jamaica for a few months, then come back to Thailand.

No thanks...I am not a fat, ugly middle aged western lady looking for the black mamba

No you're Fat Drunk and Stupid, right ?

  12. LOL they are throwing everything brown against the wall hoping it will stick what a tangled web...

    http://englishnews.thaipbs.or.th/charter-court-rejects-call-end-ms-yinglucks-premiership/

But hey when ya can't win an election according to the laws and the constitution it is incumbent to try any means possible...right? The old shotgun theory ...

I sincerely hope for all Thais they know what the alternative is... ...

Sure they know what the alternative is, because the alternative is what they had before Taksin came into power.

But then with even more rights stripped, because the alternative has also learned its lesson.

  13. Finally, since the red-shirt mob was still waiting to beat the monk again, it was the unarmed Royal Thai Army who had to intervene to escort the monk to a safe place, in front of the PASSIVE COPS that did nothing to protect the monk. As you can see on the video, the Police was only interested in registering the bag of the monk (and found nothing interesting).

ps: at the video you can also hear the monk that politely says to the red-shirts that it is not good to create problems for the community. Then the Red Shirts start to beat him shouting that he is a PDRC. I cannot imagine what they would do to a person that is not a monk and is actually an anti-government protester.

Front "unarmed Royal Thai Army" man on right hip a 45 ACP.

Probably a bee bee gun, right ? wink.png
