"We all know, they love our money, and the louder they claim otherwise, the less likely they are being honest with both themselves, and us,"
Of course it is a bit different back home where the women have more rights and possibilities to take care of themselves and where old people, children and jobless people, are taken care of through government funded social systems.
Even with all of those systems in place back home, there are women that divorce their husbands, because they are not earning/providing enough.
Back home, if a girl choses to marry a well off young man, that can give her what she wants and needs, instead of a poor young street-sweeper, whom she even might love more, it is also being regarded as a wise and sound decision.
Usually the girls back home seem to be purely "love driven" in their relationship-choices at a young age but when they grow up a bit more, other factors start to come into play, when choosing partners.
Luckily back home the young girls are in the fortunate position to do so because there are no financial pressures yet at that age.
Down here, life is just a bit different.
Any old fart coming down here to marry a young princess should keep this in mind.

My hero !
Everybody can say he is a criminal, a crook and corrupt, whatever !
So are all other politicians, period !
He is not afraid to expose corruption and criminality and now he gets hit in the face, lands on his backside, gets up and dives right back into the fight.
A real man, unlike some Thai politicians out there !
Good on you Khun Chuwit !

Many seem to be shouting war and trying to ignite one. All caused by one single person for greed and desire of greatness. 64 years old and gathered billions. Still it's not enough. How does he think he can return to Thailand and live? Become president of the north? It will not happen.
Yes Taksin did some bad things, everybody knows all about them.
But he should have been voted out !!
Not thrown out through a coup and ignore the voice of the masses.
Three times already !
Everybody calls them dumb and ignorant but wonders why they are fed up with it.
Taksin plays a dirty game using these people, i fully agree, but the old elite plays a dumb game ignoring them.
And this is the result.
As said before, i feel very sorry for this beautiful country !!

Wise words from a decent man.
Maybe for you.
Some would probably say, Weak words from a spineless man.
Just depends on which side you hear the words on.
I applaud his public support, for members of his party that do want to vote, though.
A real democrat !!

Hopefully it doesn't split in two.
It has been split in two a long time ago, and the butcher's name that cut Thailand in two is Thaksin Siwanatra.
He just made a division visible that was there already.

... and you have said it in one.
You want a style of cuisine that the Fast Food companies made popular ...
If you want 'real' Chinese food .. go to China.
... but you probably have never done that ...
No the first two dishes ARE NOT fast food cuisine. I guess you never been to a real Chinese restaurant that serves those dishes.
Like a REAL chinese restaurant in THAILAND, as judged by YOU, you mean ?
Define a REAL Chinese restaurant first, mr "Expert on Chinese food".

This is too funny. If you are in Chiang Mai, you know how few red shirts have been at their command center, in the past week (probably less then 30 in total, most of the time only 3 or 4). They have not been getting paid. No money no honey. Thaksin should know that.
That BTW is also the main reason, a large number of Suthep supporters are showing up, in Bangkok.
He and his cronies do have the money to buy a following !
Everybody seems to know where Taksin's money comes from but where does Suthep's money come from ?

"The Army has sent its soldiers to help maintain peace and security for both officials and protesters."
What about protection to voters from the protestors.

Why and who gave them authority to do so ?

It would all depend on the class of people involved, the lower the class the lower the social skills, same in every country.
So the behavior of the upper class Thais is perfect for you ??

Trying to feel sorry for these farmers who voted for Thaksin and his clone, but am having a hard time doing
so. They voted for a liar who told them they would become rich, and now they are paying the price.....
What a stupid thing to say, "they voted for a liar who told them they would become rich".
They voted because they thought they would have an option on a better life.
They voted for something that sounded good at the time.
You cannot blame them for getting lied to.
Look at what they received from anybody, after any past election, for as long as they have voted.
Some-one played them by giving them hope and they got burned.
You shouldn't feel anything else but sorry for them.

He was from the student network, not pcad.
Protesters are the minority in bkk and they will suffer further losses next Sunday, if they try to block polling boots
The ideas of the PCAD are shared by the minority in Thailand, period !
All this crap about vote buying or the rural voters being to uneducated to vote.
Yes, there, very probable, were votes being bought during last election in Thailand.
Just like every election before that, probably as long as Thailand has a history of elections, for that matter !
Most probable this was done, by all participating parties, red, yellow, white, all of them.
The rural voters being to uneducated to vote, yes they are uneducated !
This did not happen overnight though.
This did also happen with nobody from the leadership of either sides doing anything about it, over the last decades.
But how educated do you have to be to vote ?
Politics is a dirty game in which lying, stealing, slandering, (ab)using people and even murder have become common tactics.
No matter how educated you are.
When faced with lies or half truths, anybody can make wrong decisions.
It makes me sad to see what is happening to this beautiful country !
RIP, to the victim and loads of strength to his family and loved ones !

And for that matter, while we're at the subject anyhow:
What happened to: The moviestar start cold blooded killed a guy in the parking low while filmed on CCTV and the Red Bull Heir ?
-
The way these people carry on like nobody outside knows what is going on amazes me. The Americans probably know what Suthep has for breakfast even before he does.
They might even have paid for it ?

the term hi so used on this board is simply a misnomer. the fact remains that the vast majority of foreigners in thailand don't even get close to any true thai "hi-so".
you must either be very wealthy yourself, or have a connection through business, or have attended school with them abroad or all of the above to have an in.
the true high so moves in very rarefied air.
Foreigners as well as "lo-so" Thais do not even get close to any true Thai "hi-so".
As said: The true Thai "hi-so" moves in very rarefied air.
They live in a world of their own.
Very protected and rarely mingle with commoners
They're being escorted to exclusive expensive international nurseries/kindergartens by their drivers/nannies/body guards and mingle with children of the same status.
That will continue though out their lives in everything they do and anywhere they go.

Cambodians brought to Thailand to deal with the red protesters in 2010, and the yellow protesters in 2014...
Well, it makes the things rather confusing
Personally I would not attach too much importance to this "secret information" he was supposed to take with him to his grave...
Sent from my HTC One using Thaivisa Connect Thailand mobile app
Read first !
He only claims that foreign forces have been brought in during the 2009 and 2010 protests.
This could also mean f.i. that they were brought in to violently disrupt the protests or even fight on the reds side against the army, who knows what is meant.
The only thing he says is, that foreign forces were brought in, the rest is speculation.

To the best of my knowledge, it's not anti-corruption sentiment that drives the Gates and their pals to donate >=50% of their wealth.
--------------
India has 'recently' passed some fascinating and so far very effective anti-corruption laws. Here, I am really hoping that a TV member/s can better explain in detail just what they are doing.
My understanding is that the new law provides an economic incentive to report/turn in people for acts of corruption. Here's the kicker, typically both the giver of corrupt monies AND the receiver of said money face prosecution...however, India's new law only seeks (pardon the pun) to prosecute the receiver of the money NOT the giver...in fact, the money exchanged between the giver and receiver is to be returned to the GIVER! The economics of this law are both simple and elegant. Historically, both the giver and receiver had every reason to keep their corrupt deals 'in the dark'...not so much now.
The OP suggests that mere altruism on the part of the rich and powerful will end corruption in Thailand - dream on!
Why not let capitalism and the so called empty hand go to work here in LOS?
Again, please someone do a better job of explaining of India's new anti-corruption law/s.
B. reg'
no need to explain further, you said it very well, awesome idea
Awesome idea ????
If I read it well, this means, the giver, f.i. some rich person that wants a law bend for his benefit, can have some government official arrested and punished, when his payment under table does not bear fruits !
Resulting in him getting his cash back !!
Sounds like a result-insurance for underhand illegal deals.

You think because we come from 1st world countries with problems we can't have an opinion on Thailand? Ludicrous. I have no desire to go back to my nanny state but it doesn't mean I can't see the reality of the Thai life.
No I do not think that because you come from a 1st world country with problems, you can't have an opinion on Thailand.
Just like I can have an opinion myself on certain opinions, that is the beauty of it.
The problem is that most Westerners tend to have an opinion on almost everything.
Even if it is based on pure ignorance, they still tend to know better and try to generalize all they see and hear.
To me, the question, why Thais think and behave a certain way, is the thing that is ludicrous.
Like they all think and act exactly the same and for the same reason just because OP describes a situation he has been in, and others recognize the situation.
By countering with describing a completely opposite situation (which a lot of people will also recognize) we just show that generalization is pretty stupid.
That was all I thought, for your info.

The writer is very correct even though the piece is several years old. That does not change what he has said and It is correct today as it was when he wrote it. Many if not most Thais are hypocrites, insincere and above all inconsiderate of anyone but themselves.
Just think about this one:
We westerners and our respective societies consume most of the worlds natural resources while other people are starving and can only dream of what we have.
We have ruined complete countries and are still doing so, to maintain our lifestyle and do this for instance, through bribing politicians in underdeveloped countries, to get away with things illegally and to get more of what we want cheap.
Our mega corporates financially keep our political system running.
So, we can go on and on.
And while fully knowing all of this, most westerners, still want more of everything and better.
Then we come here to Thailand and call the Thais, hypocrites, insincere and inconsiderate of anyone but themselves.
Wow !!

The article describes a common side of a Thai attitude, pretty accurate.
Thais tend to mind (only) their own business and can be pretty selfish to the point of seeming plainly antisocial.
Just look at traffic.
On the other hand, I have been in situations where Thais have helped me out tremendously.
Remember being lost with car troubles in the country side and having complete strangers bring the local car mechanic to me by motorbike, while I was taken to a noodle soup stand, to eat and relax.
After 30 minutes and with the help of about 20 by-standing assistants the mechanic had my car running again.
This all happened at 23.00 o'clock in the evening.
I wanted to give him 1000 THB for all the trouble and he refused and just accepted 100 THB for his work.
That would absolutely not happen in my home country, i can tell you that.
What I see here, is that many Thais tend to mind only their own business but when asked, go out of their way to help you.
Someone once told me the Thais tend to be followers, not leaders.
Maybe that is the case.
Maybe it is not complete selfishness but also some lack of initiative ?
Who knows ?

Wow !!!
Scary !!!
What sort of a girl do I have?

Will at least try to give you some red flags since you're getting enough negative reactions already.
The red flags you mention, forget about it.
Even bar girls are way beyond those.
Red flags are:
- Family are (poor) farmers but she owns an apartment and a nice car.
- She has a busy job but can take weeks off when she wants.
That sounds pretty fishy already.
But you don't wanna marry nor take her home, so why do you fricking bother.
