Finally, since the red-shirt mob was still waiting to beat the monk again, it was the unarmed Royal Thai Army who had to intervene to escort the monk to a safe place, in front of the PASSIVE COPS that did nothing to protect the monk. As you can see on the video, the Police was only interested in registering the bag of the monk (and found nothing interesting).
ps: at the video you can also hear the monk that politely says to the red-shirts that it is not good to create problems for the community. Then the Red Shirts start to beat him shouting that he is a PDRC. I cannot imagine what they would do to a person that is not a monk and is actually an anti-government protester.
Front "unarmed Royal Thai Army" man on right hip a 45 ACP.
Probably a bee bee gun, right ?
-
redshirt scum....anyone going to defend that...
I do not approve of this behavior but I want to say following:
The video very conveniently starts exactly when the beating starts.
No video of what happened before the beating starts.
Also I think a holier than thou attitude about Thai monks is a bit misplaced.
I do hate the rat-pack beating mentality i see on this video.
But that goes for both sides.

Beautiful, to divert the attention from the problem of corrupt crooked cops to work permits.
Work permit in order or not in order is another issue.
The dive shops come to ATUS to point out, that they have to pay money "under table" to corrupt cops, to either operate or operate illegally.
That's the issue, not the f…ing work permits.

Biggest differences between both protests are, that in Thailand both sides are run by equally corrupt persons (Yingluck as well as Suthep) and that there is a big social division in Thai society, which plays a huge role in the conflict.

If the temple has 300 trees that are 100 years old, they could harvest three trees every year and replace them with three new saplings. That would be sustainable and the money raised could be used for other conservation projects.
That is what the biggest problem is.
The lack of sustainability planning from the Thai governmental forest departments.
I have seen large chunks of forrest disappear in my 20 years in Thailand and it is sad !
Sustainable cutting is the only real solution.
For every tree cut plant 3 saplings.
Plant in the right way they yield 3 harvests.
harvest 1 small trees for paper/glue production
harvest 2 middle big trees for various use
harvest 3 big fully grown trees.
Can be a very lucrative and sustainable business.
In the article it says this year they intercepted 363,000 Rosewood pieces worth 40 million THB.
Price of a fully grown rosewood tree is 700,000 THB according to the article.
That means they intercepted around 57 trees.
363,000 pieces sounds like a lot but what is 57 trees ?
I bet you a lot more get through the check points (bribed - sealed - delivered) and through to China.

Been here for 20 years.
Own my own business and do well.
Live in Chiangmai, am happily married, have 2 daughters that are in bi-lingual primary school and am genuinely happy.
Have some good Farang as well as Thai friends.
Live a normal life like I would do back home and do not hang out in bars or nightlife much.
Like any other country in the world Thailand has its plusses and minuses but I love it here and it has become my home.
Of course there are times that negative thoughts about Thailand surface but all I have to do, is travel to my home country for a couple of weeks, to make me realize how good of a life I have in Thailand.
My home country has its own charm but the rules and regulations and (lack of) real social life make me feel bound and gagged.
People in my home country think they know everything, condemn anything they fail to understand and worry about the smallest of things plus feel the need to discuss everything at length (talk show after talk show full of crap).
What attracts me about Thailand the most, is hard to describe and is probably a mix on many things but 1 thing i love down here, is the sense of freedom.
I feel that in Thailand you can be more who you want to be then back home, where everything is over regulated and everybody is placed in boxes.
Maybe that is an advantage of being a non-Thai in Thailand or maybe it is just a feeling that I have personally, but anyhow that is what I feel.
Hope it is of use for you.

Serious observers of Thai politics are left stunned and shocked by the ramping up of violence that has coincided by the out-on-bail-for-terrorism-charges Jatuporn being thrust into the UDD head position. Nobody could have foreseen this happening.
"Serious observers of Thai politics" would wait until investigations have been carried out by the relevant officials and announcements made rather than make baseless accusations influenced by their own blind prejudice and hatred.
"out-on-bail-for-terrorism-charges"
is that the "baseless accusation" in question?
History is written by the victors !
First they were charges and second do you know all the ins and outs of these charges ?
Since they were charges and guilt has not been proven yet, yes, until proven guilty, that accusation is baseless.

Continuing change and confusion. In the north, they recently extended the time to 30 days for land crossings, but limited this to 4 consecutive visa runs....
This latest change, if true and universal, May well cost the country quite a bit of income.
As the average length of stay for the almost 20 million visitors in 2011 was (per TAT) " ... 9.64 days and an average daily spend of 4,187.12 baht (US$137) per person," the financial contribution of those who stay long-term without non-IMM visas and who might be affected by any of the above changes in regulations most likely would not cost the country a great deal of income.
You probably should rethink your thesis a bit if the 20 million visitors also contain the so called "visa hoppers"
These visa hoppers exit and enter the country every time they cross the border.
Which would bring the total number of real visitors to Thailand down a bit.
Also "the visa hoppers" do cross the border so "go out of the country" every 30 or 15 days which brings the average length of stay down quite a bit, since you do not know how many of the 20 million visitors are visa hoppers.
A visa hopper who stays here for 3 months is probably registered as a visitor who visited Thailand 3 times in the last 3 months with an average stay of 30 days or with the 15 day rule: he visited Thailand 5 times (first time 30 days then every 15 days) with and average stay of 18 days.

["I was at home when the grenade landed," she said.].
What a strange choice of words.
The grenade landed, makes it sound like it didn't blow up ??
No mention of damage or anything ?
Anyhow a despicable act at a house where wife and possible children reside !
Lower than low.

Been here 14 years and never had or highly unlikely to ever have a Thai male friend.
Absolutely nothing in common with them whatsoever. Anyone who says they have 'Thai friends' are very odd people IMO.
I'd say your the odd one. You have lived in a country for 14 years and haven't made one friend from that country.
No, I agree with Pat.
I've made many friends here, none of them Thai.
Probably says more about you than about them.
Been here for 20 years and have a only few people I would call real friends (just like back home).
Thai as well as Farang.
Question for the people who do not have any Thai friends:
Did you have any Asian, Black, Arab, or whatever other race then your own, friends back in your home country ?
If yes, were these friends fully integrated in your society, spoke your language and had a western way of thinking ?
Well down here, you're like this Asian, Black or Arab friend back home.
My experience is that if you integrate in this society, speak the language and adapt to (or at least understand) their way of thinking, you can have Thai friends as well.
Just like everywhere else.

I still don't understand how his PDRC necklace stayed in such a pristine condition after the beating and dunking in the river, and why the hospital wouldn't have cut it off when they cut the rest of his clothes off. Also, why would the PDRC have even put it on him?
I hope the people that did this are caught and dealt with, and I wouldn't put it past the PDRC to have done it, but the whole story of an ex red shirt guard "relaxing" in Lumpini park where a major "yellow" shirt protest had been going on for weeks just doesn't sound right.
Sent from my phone ...
Even if he was snooping around with a PDRC necklace around his neck to blend in.
It does not justify the actions against him, does it ?

The kids pushed each other so the boy fell against the taser.
With his butt ???
Where did the teacher hold the taser ?
At knee height ??
For that is the height where a 4 year old boy's butt would be.
Is he for real ??
Ludicrous that they even talk about it.
Threatening 4 year old kids with a taser should be enough to fire the guy and throw him in jail.
The fact that he actually tasered a 4 year old boy should make it a long jail sentence.
The management of this school, who tried to disguise it as a prank, should also be fired.
They obviously cannot be trusted with taking care of children.

[Contrary to the perception of much of the Western media, the Thai protesters are not anti-democracy; they are protesting to root out a corrupt regime.]
Although I mainly agree with the contents of this article, my biggest problems is that, even though a large part of the Thai protesters might have honorable intentions, such as rooting out a corrupt regime.
The problem I see however, is that the people leading the Thai protesters, are mainly members of a previous corrupt regime.
The impression i get, is that the actual protesting is mainly done by paid protesters, being used by an elite with hidden agendas
It makes the goal of "rooting out a corrupt regime" sound a bit hypocritical and it makes me feel like the Thais are only being presented with a choice between 2 evils.
Furthermore the impressions I have, are mainly based on politically motivated media reports, which can also not be trusted.
Not an easy one this one.

The whole situation is just a battle between 2 rich and influential sides in which the poor (as usual) are used as pawns.
That's all.

Do you eat alot of Thai food? Next time when you order a Thai dish, say ''Mai mee pom chuu rot'' Means ''no MSG'' That stuff makes fat. You mentioned sweets and sugar, but also the oil. They use alot of oil, the unhealthy kind, in their foods. Say'' maanh noi krup'' Means little bit oil please. When ordering something which comes standard with sugar, say '' waan noi'' means little bit sugar.
I also used to be lean. But now I see my belly grwoing to proportions of a beer belly, and I don't even drink beer that much. It is because my gf is always cooking Thai food for me and we eat Thai food 99% of the time.
You need to eat more vegetables and fruits. Take a colon cleansing. There are many colon cleansing shops in Thailand, I have used them, it has been a wonderful experience, very gentle and great service, unlike the colon cleansing shops in the West. Also You might have a worm in your stomach that eats up all the good stuff. Go to any pharmacy and tell them you have a worm in your stomach and they will give you a special anti-biotic
Why do the Thais not get that fat then ?
They have been eating "chuu rot" for ages.
Most fat Thais I know, are fat because their portion sizes are enormous or they eat large amounts of junk food.

Chinese tourists are disruptive to public order at Chiangmai University and a hindrance to the students, but if they pay entrance fees all is OK !

He also dismissed the Pheu Thai partys accusation that the NACC had deliberately dragged its feet on the probe against former prime minister Abhisit Vejjajiva over the rice price guarantee scheme which has been going on for about four years whereas it took the commission only 21 days on complete the probe against the prime minister on the rice pledging scheme.
He defended that the probe on the rice pledging scheme began in December 2012 and took more than a year to complete and not 21 days as suggested by the ruling party.
Yet Yingluck's case has progressed more in 14 months than Abhisit's case in 4 years?
But they're not dragging their feet ...no way.
"misplacing" 500 billion baht is no small matter
So what you mean is, that Abhisit's case, could have been handled faster.
Because it commonly takes longer to handle "no small matters" due to sheer size.

Definitely not the army or Suthep's mafia friends from the south. No way. They were too busy threatening women in shopping centers and young children.
Saw these guys last week when visiting a friend in the Rama IV area opposite Lumphini.
What a nasty looking bunch, unbelievable !
Where did they find these guys, Klong Prem prison ?
Indeed, all they seemed to be doing was staring and hollering at the women passing by and giving everybody else the dirty look.
I might be wrong of course, they might be lovely people for all I know, but they did not give me that impression.

What a surprise. He's leading a lawless mob trying to topple and elected government, what can he negotiate?
It is unbelievable how just a handful of people can hold a Nation hostage with the right back-up.

You kick the <deleted> out of a farang and you bring honour to Thailand, for this we will release you.
Indeed !
The nationalistic undertone, of bringing honor to Thailand by beating foreigners, is what makes it even more sickening.
Just winning a bout doesn't bring you honor or glory, no, beating foreigners, that is where the honor and glory comes in.
Pathetic !!
