  1. I cant recall reading in the news about this particular accident in June? Usually when there are buses and foreigners involved there are news in all newspapers?

Although this kind of accidents are high profile (similar to air crashes - worlds safest mode of transportation) the majority of accidents in Thailand; more than 90% I think, are caused by and involves motorcycles.

  2. I wish people would stop talking about how the dams was full before rainy season. A quick look at Irrigation dept. web site will show that almost all dams in Thailand was close to its low level mark (as it has been every year) before rainy season started. Water is alway released as per policy and management plan every year so that the damns will be full at end of rainy season.

One would think that Thailand should have the world most expertise in flood management? I mean few other countries are flooded so frequently as Thailand? And not only recently but for 100 and 100 of years?

  3. SOE is used to enable the Military to take part in domestic disaster management and rescue operations. Example Katrina in the USA, they had to declare SOE otherwise the military would be constitutionally unable to involve in domestic operation in peace time.

Now in Thailand on the other hand, where the military apparently can operate domestically without any sort of SOE in force, a declaration of SOE will hardly have any effect on the situation.

  4. Has any1 in TV gone the full way up to court with a supposed traffic rule violation?

My suspicion is that even if you did violate the traffic rule, the evidence by BIB is gathered in such a way it will not stand up in court.

Of course going to court is a ridiculous suggestion because of the costs and time involved (years upon years and 100,000 Bath later in court fees you are finally in court).

I have been stopped and paid the usual "passage" fee many times, but one time just to see what happens I just sat in my car and refused to acknowledge any wrongdoing (I actually did speed quiet significantly). The officer got more and more agitated and I asked him "show me your evidence" upon which he presented a notebook with some very difficult to read license plate number and pointed to my number, with a time note and speed indication of 140 km/h. I said "thats not right, you must have made a mistake?" . At that point he started to have a long agitated monolog with himself in which the word "farang" appeared repeatedly. I said "OK! OK! I did it!". The officer looked at me and asked "you admit?" "yes" OK he said you can go and waved me off"

Who said the BIB don't have any humor !.

Anyway the point is, the kind of evidence presented would not stand up in any court I think?

  5. I wonder how many tourists know anything about the corruption, scams and thugs?

Of all the millions of tourists arriving to Thailand, I think very few actually follow any news at all, let alone local news. And when they hire a tuck tuck in Phuket for 100 - 500 bath to drive 500 m they maybe don't see it as a scam, because they don't know its a scam.

My sister and her family comes here regularly and they are just here to rest and enjoy the sunshine and beaches. They never rent jet skies, stays mostly at the hotel with the hotel beach and only goes out in the evening for some strolling around and dinner. I think this goes for most tourists arriving in Thailand.

  6. Politics is never black and white. Especially in Thailand.

In the offices and ministries are people who are against Shin family and people who are with. And then there are the usual turncoats who just follow whoever gives them the best advantages from their viewpoint.

Just because the government itself happens to be Democrat, there are a large number of civil servants and other involved in governing and its a continuous struggle lobbying and backstabbing on a daily basis. That is what has been going on behind the curtains leading up to this announcement, I think.
