  1. Good point loony lumar, well...

I believe the answer goes hand in hand with the old chinese belief that you must not trust your friendly bank and perhaps stash your loot in der house, right? I for one do not trust my bank, I shall not comment on names, but it must be an issue of trust don't you think?

  2. another piece of the jigsaw puzzle...

    Q: Thai immigration Member

    24 hours registration

As stated on the arrival card, a foreigner, who changes his address from the one he stated in that form,  has to report to the local police within 24 hours. Actually I have never heard of any foreigner, who really did this.

I stated my local address in Bangkok, which is an apartment in my wife’s name. No further reports have ever been made (except filling out my arrival card every 3 months when re-entering the kingdom / NonIm multiple). As we quite often spend some time in our house upcountry, the question occurs, to whom I will have to report in that case. I doubt to find any person at the local police station, who is familiar with the legal procedure. Just because most likely nobody else has ever asked for it. So I’m afraid to cause a lot of confusion by trying to meet that requirement.

I wouldn’t like to wake up “sleeping dogs”. On the other hand I would like to avoid any kind of future hassles. Any advice on how to handle this?

This is an example of a rule that in fact is difficult to fulfil.

If you live in BKK and are going to visit a friend in Chang Mai for a week, you should in fact, according to the law, drop by the police station in CM on your arrival and report it. Then, when you came back to BKK you had to report that you are back. It’s a hassle, and living permanently here they don't expect you to do so.

The rule is mostly meant for tourists. Many of them are travelling around the country, and in case something happens the authorities likes to know where they are.

For us living here it’s a bit different. They only want our permanent address, so that they know where to get in touch with us in case they need too. So, what you are doing is ok. In case you are staying long periods (more than 2-3 weeks) in your up country house, we recommend that you report it to the local police station though. But you don't need to change it at Immigration.

Why they also want us to report is a question of tax. If you rent a house, like I’m doing, many landlords “forget” to pay tax of the rent. The landlord has to report to the police that you are staying in his house, but because of the tax they do not always do so. But if you report that you are living there, the authorities can look into who owns the house and if the landlord has reported that you are renting it.

I’m registered with Immigration at my workplace, Rajabhat Institute Udonthani, even though I never lived there. I have asked if Immigration want me to change it, but since it’s easy for all authorities to get in contact with me at RIUT, they prefer I keep it that way. I just made sure that my landlord did report it to the police when I moved into his house. Then everybody is happy.

How to register? The local police station should have a form to fill in. At least they got that in Udon. If it’s a small local police station it might give some confusion first time, but if they have guesthouses or hotels in the area they should know how to handle it, because those places report to the police every day.

    Does this answer your question?

    so which forms to obtain...

You need 2 forms to do the address/house notification at the Police or Immigration:

    TM30 + TM30 Appendix

They can both be downloaded here:

    http://www.thaiimmigration.com/apf/TM30

    http://www.thaiimmigration.com/apf/TM30APP

  5. US urges action on murder case

CHIANG RAI: -- The US Embassy yesterday urged police to find the intruders who shot and killed an American in his home in Chiang Rai on Friday.

Well done US embassy for enquiring after it's citizen's oversea's.

Would the UK embassy in Thailand do the same for it's citizens?

    I believe not!

  6. If A-m-e-r-i-c-a had purposely set an unprecedented agenda to thoughtfully limit the number of SVU's/ Car's per household since the Eighties, then all other Genuine Nations outside the Stench of the States wouldn't be seeing these hikes in the price of Crude Oil, correct?

I blame them W-A-S-P-S, why not, and while i'm at it Bush Dubya and Cronies!

  7. In Bangkok I found cable TV to be full of repeats, dull movies and probably limited cable choice. Sometimes and I say sometimes, cable was reasonable at best, only sometimes.

Since i've moved to Pattaya i've found the whole cable setup to be far more expansive with far more interesting movies, channel options and of course less repeats.

The latter being the most important as I can't for the life of me stand repeats...repeats!

Any ideas why Pattaya should air the better programmes without any restrictions?

  8. When all go to bed, one must say ''I love you so much darling, dream good, sleep well, see you in the morning, Kiss-Kiss'' and by the time i've finished saying that i'm a feel as satisfied as she is with my verbal offerings. :D

It's the old fashioned cogs of romance which unite all couples together, surely?

  9. Is the Premier League over rated?

Perhaps Sports Cable in Thailand is very credible. Personally i've no qualms with what is aired, but not everyone agrees. Premier league, World Series, Cricket or even Badminton are great to watch. Leading to the question...

Q: Do different Nationalities have different expectations of what they expect to see aired on Cable TV?

Can't say I see much of Basketball, Baseball or Bodybuilding...

    Your Point's of View?

  10. Thai Immigration Open for business, but When did our friends Open the Forum once again?

Go ahead and perhaps Q Admin...

Nothing seems out of the ordinary or unsettling,

perhaps the definition of working is amusing to some:

    Admin Thai Immigration

The definition of work according to Thai Law:

“WORK means, to engage in work by exerting physical energy, or using knowledge, whether or not in consideration of wages, or other benefits”.

I will assume i've broken the law again, darn coffee breaks, tut tut...

I would be very intreseted to see what else we can elicit from the site.

  11. There are not 9700 users at Thaiforum, people are signing up, and often never come back anymore. I recommend the moderator to remove all user accounts, which are idle since over 3 years...

Probably not as many as 9700 users at thaivisa dot com but the content, quality and selection of topics is vast, interesting and informative.

Keep up the good work Admin.

  13. I just hope Thaksin can do the right thing by the people of Liverpool if he gets the deal, we will just have to wait and see.

Thaksin is self-serving, Selfish and definetely a cash driven Thai-Chinese scoundrel.

Logic spells 'Thai people love Thaksin for his efforts putting Thailand on the Map.

    Perhaps Liverpool are D-o-o-m-e-d?

    D-o-o-m-e-d I tell you, D-o-o-m-e-d!

    Well OK, wait and see...

  14. Thaksin should take care the problem in Thailand. He don't have time to play with the balls.

Probably. I would say Thaksin has more than enough balls and definetely numerous marked cards.

I'd like to know has he played his last card and kicked his last ball?

We will all find out near election time, but for now it's the latest Thai debacle!
