  1. I've lived in CNX for a number of years now. My OZ Bank is Westpac. I do a TT each month. Westpac charges $20.00/transfer (regardless of the amount)

Via the internet I transfer my funds about 08.00am, directing them to my Bangkok Bank account. Usually, in about 2 or 3 hours THE SAME DAY, I receive an SMS from Bangkok Bank telling me my funds have arrived. Bangkok Bank charges me 0.25% (or something close to that).

TT rate is slightly more favourable than the Cash rate. Check out Bangkok Bank's Foreign Exchange Rates

You can w'draw funds here through any ATM, but don't, its a bloody rip off (from both ends)

  2. Some years ago the 2IC of the company that develops the Hillside projects told me that there was a development height restriction that had recently come into force in CNX, Thats is EXCEPT where prior approval had already been obtained. I feel sorry for the western unit owners in HS4.

  3. A few years back I use to visit a Thai in the male prison. It was not a problem.

But I did need the full name of the inmate, and I also had to provide ID (either my Thai drivers licence or my passport).

There was always quite some delay, as the inmate had to be notified, and presented.

One can also take some food for them which would be subject to search (but best if purchased on site at a shop run by

the govenor (or someone else that gets the tea money), or you can make a small

cash deposit into the inmates prison account (again run by the establishment) where they can buy

goods like food suplements, soap, shampoo, etc.(Oh and to pay off their minders)

I am sure the same would apply to the womens prison.

To see how they are treated is gut wrenching, but its a great morale boast for them to get

    a visitor

I all can so is GO, and do a good deed

  4. Last June we used a company that did alterations / additions to our bathroom glass screens. They were efficient and tradesmen like. They didn't speak English, so all the communication was completed by my partner.

Sorry I don't have a name, but from their invoice their mobile number is 081 671 7553.

  5. There is a suitcase repair establishment on the Hang Dong Road, on the right hand side heading out of town, & after TescoLotus, or perhaps more further out opposite the Shell Servo further on. There is an English advertisement outside this establishment.

  6. On legal advice from a 'Thai Lawyer' this is what we did

Both of us made a Thai will leaving everything to each other. Our Lawyer then had both wills registered and lodged with City Hall (a very simple process).

Our Thai Lawyer advised us that I, being a farang, will have a "reasonable time", up to a year, in which either to sell the property or to find another (trusted) Thai in whose name the title could be transfered to (on the previso that a Usufruct is registered at the time of changing of title owner).

I also agree with 'LeCharivari' when he refers to the will of a farang being written in both Thai and the native language of the farang, so that there can be no contest in regards that the farang didn't fully understand Thai language

I doubt very much whether your bank will now allow you to add a Usufruct to the Chanote, seeing that its currently in mortgage to them.

Best advice - go and see a competent Thai lawyer

  7. I don't profess to be an expert on this subject, but I did live out that way for some time & was taken on a 'guided tour' of the site by a Thai local.

To my knowledge the site is in A. Mae On, NOT A. San Khampaeng. But this confusion came about because Mae On previously was part of A. San Khampaeng, but more recently the government created a new Amphur of Mae On.

Again, to my knowledge, the site chosen is in the flat & foothills of the mountain range south of Tambon On Klang, in A. Mae On.

The above info is at least 2 years old, & have no further info as to whether the project will go ahead or not.

  8. One could consider a 'meat pie' to be one of Australia's national dishes - footy (& god forbid cricket) wouldn't be footy without meat pies & hot dogs.

Being from downunder I've eaten hundreds, if not thousands, of meat pies in my lifetime & I must say I have never known of an Aussie meat pie with an egg inside, sorry, but I stand corrected. After all Australia is a BIG place.

For those doubting my words then may I suggest you check out the link provided by ChiangMai2 above. "Harrys Cafe de Wheels" would have to be the biggest (& most famous) outlet for pies in (Sydney) Australia.

  9. I do an online monthly TT from Westpac to BKK Bank. Takes about 2 to 3 hours, yes hours. Bkk Bank sends me an SMS when my account is credited, painless.

I transfer AUD. Westpac charges me $20.00/transfer & Bkk Bank charges around 250Thb/transfer

  10. There is a place in Chiang Mai that carries a range of extruded alum. They are on Mae Jo Road, on the LH side coming into town in a small group of shops just before Mae Jo Road intersects with Super Highway. Sorry I don't know their name, nor do I have their phone number. Good Luck

  11. scorecard, my advice is to check with your originating bank to determine if they have 'special' arrangements with a Thai Bank.

I set-up one of my banks in Aust for EFT about a year ago & during that process discovered there was this 'special' arrangement between my Aust Bank and BKK Bank. I now do monthly EFT & within an hour or two (I'm not kidding) of requesting (on line) the transfer I receive an SMS alert from BKK Bank advising me that the funds have arrived. A very neat, quick & efficient system. My Aust bank charges me $20.00AUD & BKK Bank charges a very small % rate, which usually is between 200 & 300Thb.

Prior to the above arrangements I was using Citibank & I would wait (& fret) for up to 5 days
