1. Does anyone have or know of a 4/5 bed villa available for short term rent ??

Have some friends coming out for my wedding and need a nice place for them all to stay together..

Prefer Nai Harn, Rawai or Chalong but will consider other locations too.

    Thanks in advance...

  2. Hi,

Just thought I'd add these pics of a transport cage I had made.

Needed something for trips between Surat and Phuket but cost in pet shops 4000 baht +++

Found a guy in Phuket, near Central festival, he makes anything you want in the way of animal cages.

Quick and reasonable prices. 2 days and 2700 baht for this one. (100x70x70 cm)

It can be used at home as a kennel or I just throw it in the back of the pick up and the pouch is happy as a mouse :)

PM me if you would like contact details or directions to the guy..

  3. Hi Nienke,

I followed your advice to the letter and had him eating out my hand within an hour..

Walking him within 1 day and into the pickup on day 2..

By day 3 he was attached :) Amazing dog...

Thanks for your help, it was priceless :)

What a wonderful news! It seems the dog knew and quickly gave you his trust. :) Very glad it worked out so well.

He looks a bit like a Ban Keaw I knew for about six years. Unfortunately the dog succumbed to his yearly booster at the age of 6 years; liver failure. :( He was a wonderful dog, loved water and very much loved by his owner, and vice versa.

Wishing you and your fiance lots of fun and love with him. :)

  4. Well after meeting the dog, I have decided to keep him as he likes my fiance too, so she will be able to look after him when I'm not here.

2 days with him convinced me that I can't give him away, he is just to special... Never met a dog that became so friendly and protective so quick !!!

He did bite one women (an aunty but was warning her for a while 1st )...

As for them not swimming, he has never been to a river or the beach but 1st time down the beach and he wanted to swim to Samui :)

Photo attached.... Think he is genuine BK but no tattoo in his ear ??

    Happy days...

  5. That guy is not answering his phone. Is there anyone near who wants a guard dog for a commercial lot or something? Have you a photograph? That might help.

I will be going over to Surat tomorrow..

Then I will know more about the situation and will take some photos.

    Thanks

  6. Can anyone adopt a BK for me ???

My girlfriend is at her Uncles funeral at the moment in Suart Thani..

Apparently ha had a BK of about 3 years old, not sure whether male or female yet so will update when I find out.

As you can imagine, so many people at a funeral and this dog has just lost it's owner, needless to say it has taken command of the kitchen area and no one can go toilet :)

The wife wants the dog put down as she obviously can't handle it and all the relatives are scared because it is on the defensive at the moment, so they won't take it.

I'm going over there tomorrow to pay my respects and also see how the dog is doing. Not sure that it will react any different to me but having had dogs all my life, I hope to be able to at least calm it down enough to be able to take it to another property for now.

I'm sure once away from all the people and given a bit of space and some care it will be fine in due course.

Unfortunately I work away on a 2 month rotation so will not really be able to give the dog the time needed to help it re adjust.

    Anyone ??????????????????????????

Don't want the dog to die because no one will take it...

It is in Ban Nai, Surat Thani but I would be willing to drive it to someone who can look after it, well maybe not to Chiang Mai whistling.gif

    Thanks peoples

  7. Couple of things....

I have just read through this whole thread, should I maybe get out more rolleyes.gif

From what I can see, this seems like a very popular bike.. I personally only own a Wave and have never had anything bigger than a DR125 but absolutely love riding around out here, even with the possibility of being knocked off by crazy drivers (farang and Thai)..

I was wondering if the many knowledgeable bike folk on here consider the Versys to be a good choice for 1st bigger bike ??

Being only 5ft8 and 75kg, I'm not the largest so would I struggle with this machine ??

Phuket is not the ideal place for riding, so this would be for touring the rest of Thailand during my time off (I work 2 months on and 2 off so plenty time for a look around).

The other thing was clothing... Obviously on the Wave I don't get all dressed up for a ride, the longest outing having been only 5 hrs to Krabi. What is the minimum safety clothing that would be needed, apart from boots and helmet ?? I guess there must be tropical climate protective clothing available that isn't too hot !!

That is all for now... Hope some seasoned riders can advise a novice jap.gif

  8. Hi,

I'm collecting a new Ford Ranger in Bangkok next week and would like to put a roll bar on it..

Would like to know average cost (I know it depends which style, material etc), any recommendations of make or model ?

I've had a look at a few websites (CarryBoy etc plus a few 4x4 dealers in BKK) no prices on websites.

1st hand info is always the best...

    Thanks

  9. Update on Aquarium issue....

I went today. That is my 4th time and it is definitely worth 50 baht on a rainy day (100 baht if not resident).

    Good selection of fish.

    Clean tanks.

    Informative and educational.

Everything is written in Thai AND English.

Probably not worth a trip all the way to Panwa just for this but if you are having a day trip that way be sure to pop in.

No it is not Sydney Aquarium but then the price is not either..

P.S I do not work at the Aquarium :)

  10. It's a 5 hour drive to Krabi on a Honda Wave..

25 of us did it last year from Chalong, trust me the backside is a little tender by the time you arrive and the sun has half baked you :)

Guess I'll just get the ferry and hire a bike the other side...

    Thanks anyway...

  11. Just a quick up date...

Ford Phuket, not very pro active in the sales department. Been 3 days now and the sales guy has not bothered to call back to let me know about availability !! Plus he was a bit cautious about what they would throw in for accessories..

Called Ford in Bangkok and without negotiating was offered the vehicle we want at 0% interest plus 20k discount, free 5 year service plan and all the accessories they have..

I guess the competition in Bangkok is a bit more than in Phuket :)

    Lets hope the Ranger delivers....

  12. Don't want to wait for the New Ranger as I need a vehicle now.

Plus I don't need the newest version just to be seen in it..

All I want is a reliable car that does exactly what it is supposed to. I don't do massive amount of mileage, maybe 15k a year and hardly every off road apart from the occasional trip into the plantation with some fertilizer :) Which I can handle in 2WD..

Was hoping for some feedback on reliability and build quality as I have never owned a Ford in my life !!

  13. Hi,

I have been looking at the Ford Ranger as a new vehicle to replace an 80's Nissan :)

Would like to hear from anyone who owns a recent model Ranger and has any opinion (good or bad).

Ford are obviously trying to clear their stock before the release of the new Ranger later this year, therefore they are offering 0% finance and being quite generous on the accessories.

My preference is the 2.5 ltr Open Cab High Rider XLT, apart from passenger airbag it seems to have everything that the other more expensive models have. WildTrak is 50k more for a few extras and 18inch wheels. By the time they have added on all the extras for free, pretty much got a WildTrak anyway !!

Be nice to have some of your views. I have test driven a lot of pick ups lately and the Ford seems to be a fair package overall.

    Thanks

  14. Hello all,

Would just like to know what documents are required to obtain a marriage certificate.

I will be getting married in Surat Thani in October. Have heard that it is easier to get the paperwork done in Bangkok as they are more geared up to processing Farang certificates !!

As a U.K national on a double entry visa, what docs should I prepare whilst I am back in U.K ??

    Thanks in advance,

  15. I have only just discovered this farming forum and have to say, I'm lovin' it....

Coming from a Cornish background, growing up on a small holding and working on several farms as a lad, I miss the growing it and eating it lifestyle.

Having lived in Thailand on and off for the past 9 years, I am planning to marry my girlfriend (been with her for 4 years) this October and make a more permanent home in Surat Thani.

I'm looking to build up over the next 4-5 years about 100 Rai of mixed rubber/palm and also run a small holding just for family food.

My future mother in law already has a successful collection of plantations and I will be relying on her local knowledge and experience to source and cultivate the land.

Although I will obviously be paying for the land, I'm thinking of staying on the side lines with respect to the plantations, so as not to upset the local producers whilst also providing work for a family who will harvest.

Looking forward to reading more about small holdings on here and concentrating on experimenting on a small scale with different crops.

I know that I have actually not contributed anything to the original post but when I bought my motorbike and put it in my Gf name, her Mum did make a point of telling her to make sure that I knew her family never took anything from anyone, so there are some genuine folk out there :)

Keep up the great posts everyone.. And happy New year...

  16. I play in a small pool league, just 6 bars in the Rawai, Chalong, Kata area.

We don't take it tooooo seriously (well most of us) and have a very good social scene come out of it.

Having said that, the standard of play is actually quite good, some of the Thai guys being very good..

How many other pool leagues are out there on our little island ???

Would a Phuket Pool Championships be a viable idea to explore ???

    Feedback please :)

  17. Hi,

Has anyone on here had any experience with applying for a visitors visa for Australia (for a Thai girl) ??

I am British and heading there just for a month holiday, got my visa processed in less than 2 hrs online but Thais can't do that.

My fiance has a good travel history, having studied and worked abroad on several occasions.

What is the best route to take and how long is the processing time ???? Is there a consulate hidden away in Phuket somewhere, like the German and Irish ones !!!

    Any info would be helpful..

    Thanks

  18. Such a shame, testosterone fueled muppets... That is why I don't spend much time in the U.K, thought the sun, sea and sand would chill people out a bit ???

Can't believe they way the police are walking all over the crime scene in the photos on the other news source, haven't they heard of forensics !!!!!

Condolences to the victims family...

19. I did only get the 1 year licences as this is my 1st time to apply, you are correct that the 5 year licence is about 500baht.

Yes they do make it all up on the day, depending who you see !!

The letter from immigration, not sure if it has a technical name, I just asked for a letter for my licence application ??

A U.K licence is not an International licence but you can only legally drive on either for a set period (3 months I believe) then need to get the Thai licences.

You can convert both a foriegn car or bike licence without doing all the tests, just the eye test and reaction test but again, could depend on who you see at the information counter.

I got my medical certs at Watchira hospital. Not sure why they wanted an original for each licence but they did on the day.

    There are 4 tests if you have to do all;

Reaction test, time it takes to go from an accelerator pedal to a brake pedal.

Eye test, just that little book with the coloured dots in it. Read the hidden number :)

Highway code, tested on the computer. 30 multiple choice and you need to score at least 23.

The driving test. Outside on a little course. Some slalom, balancing and a few stops, plus a roundabout and a bridge !!

The office is on Rattanakoksin Rd, just over the canal from Immigration office and turn right. The Phuket Transport Offices and the grey building in the far right corner.

    Happy Mothers Day

  20. Hi,

Just an update on obtaining Thai driving licences in Phuket.

I have just got both car and motorbike licences and found that it wasn't too painful at all !!

The procedure has already been covered on several threads so I won't go over everything, Just want to add a few things that might be useful to everyone.

    1) You can get a licence if you are on a tourist visa, just needs a little diplomacy at immigration to obtain the letter needed.

    2) Medical certificates were 50 baht each (need original for each licence) at the hospital, took 1 hour to get them but no check up at all.

    3) To convert U.K car licence, only needed to do the reaction test and eye test.

    4) For the motor bike licence I had to do all the tests, except managed to not repeat the 2 tests mentioned above but only because the lady recognised me.

    5) The video you need to watch is in English

    6) The computer test is not too bad and I even had 2 easy questions repeated 3 times each !! The diagram ones just need careful examination, not clear.

    7) Price is still as before, 105 baht for car and 55 baht for motorbike

    8) No need for photos anymore. They do it on the computer but now charge you 100 baht for each licence plus 10 baht if you have the plastic wallet.

Hope that helps anyone who is considering getting them done.

    Safe driving :)B)
