  1. Brings to mind "a fool and his money are soon parted". You are no fool. Usually I am not also. I live in Jomtien, do what I like whenever I want. I could spend alot more each month, but I see no reason to. Like Buddha said, cause of suffering is attachments, be it booze, women, tattoos, Harleys... whatever. I like to keep in mind the question "Do you own your things and wants, or do they own you?"

  2. If my addition is correct, 10 months to "work it out" are allowed for the unsafe bus to continue on it's tipsy way. Lots of time to negotiate those payoff curves. What bothers me somewhat is they think this sort of window dressing foolishness will somehow satisfy those among us with half a brain into believing authorities are serious about safety. And of course ignoring the major factor, the driver....

  3. I am glad TV is here, like many posters before said. And I am glad there is Twitter (which I don't use, btw) for those who think friends need to know right away about their bowel movements ad nauseum. Forums are good for those of us who like to ponder for more than one minute which group to insult, what insane opinions to post, and useful info. Glad the trendys have a place to be ADHD.

  4. All sides of the fight are guilty, Reds, Dems, Military, Police etc. NONE of them has the least interest in Thailand as a nation, but rather "what's in it for them?". Corruption top to bottom, with delusional beliefs about own superiority. Pack of dogs fighting over bones, but beware the meat packing plants are moving to new sites with a touch of sanity and stability. And, as always, it is the common people who will suffer. So frustrating, just want to take all the greedy "leaders" and bang their heads together.

  5. There are numerous areas in bus transportation in dire need of improvement, including the buses. However, the quickest, most cost effective measure would be to have qualified drivers, which explains in some measure why so many posters suggest that remedy. Why such resistence to this from bus companies? One would think they have an interest in keeping buses on the road, not in ravines.... another example of "Thai logic"? I really don't know....

  6. "The higher the revenue, the more disadvantages there will be." So I guess that puts the well to do paid off officials now in category of disadvantaged? This is such an odd statement. It is hard to tell what he meant, if anything. Strange.

"As human beings, we need to understand that chaos undeniably happens." As government officials you should know a major part of your job is to bring order to your area. The chaotic free-for-all that seems to typify news coming out of Phuket indicates that the top authority gains some advantage by allowing that chaos.

  7. Greta should have asked a question, such as "What were they thinking?" rather than drawing conclusion Thai government decision makers are jerks. I think one of Fox's oft repeated statements goes something like "We present the facts. You decide." As if... One sign of good propaganda is that the receipients of that propaganda don't think it is propaganda. And are we to think that almost all other news sources in the world are controlled to spew some liberal slant? Never that Fox is wrong? For news on my local cable I watch BBC, Al Jazeera, Australian Network, Channel News Asia and sometimes France 24. BTW Fox donated $1,000,000 to Republican Party. Jon Stewart pointed out at the time that shouldn't it have been the other way around?

  8. "Thailand's roads are among the world's deadliest and accidents are common, especially on buses travelling late at night." Then report said happened at 8:40 at night, not late in my book. glimmer of hope regarding government officials on bus, but later said they were "retired". Out of sight, out of mind. Also brought to mind report week or so ago that bus drivers can get licenses without ever demonstrating they can drive a bus!

  9. Here's a thought: Get Laos and Cambodia to come in and "liberate and return" those portions of Thailand that border those countries. Plenty of Lao and Khmer there to justify the action. Lose Isaan and get rid of all that red support. They could still come in and work illegally for a pittance. Maybe then Democrats could win an election? Win-win situation as I see it for ruling class.
